I've Become the King of Villains in the Game

Chapter 404: Deep into the Forest

"Miss Lutina, um, it might be rude to ask, but after all, this concerns our safety..."

The wife among the couple expressed concern and skepticism.

She addressed the golden-haired travel agency owner,

"Do you really have experience entering Kellettville Forest? You look only sixteen... My Sun, this is insane, an underage guide? Won't you lead us right into a beast's maw?"

"Ma'am, I admit my appearance is deceiving, and I'll take your earlier comment as a compliment... but let me clarify, I am already twenty years old and have grown up in this town from a young age. No one knows the forest better than I do, okay?"

Lutina adjusted her shoulder bag, rolled her eyes, and said.

She walked behind the counter, bent down, and pulled out a double-barreled shotgun over a meter long. She immediately snapped open the gun, checking the ammunition status.

Noticing two round red shotgun cartridges quietly slotted inside the chamber, Lutina smiled slightly and snapped the gun back in place. She rummaged through the counter a bit more and casually threw two boxes of ammunition into her backpack.

"Alright, let's get going. Anyone objecting can leave now... but I won't be refunding the money you just paid."

Lutina slung the double-barreled shotgun over her shoulder, adjusted her Beret Cap, and led the way.

One of the five students, named Oslo, stepped forward to say something but was suddenly silenced by Lutina pointing a shotgun at his head, freezing him on the spot.

"I said, no refunds."

Lutina said with a smile.

"Ah... no, you misunderstood, Miss Lutina, I was just wondering, are there really cannibals in the forest? And strange plants and animals that actively hunt humans? I heard such things from guests at the restaurant..."

Oslo was visibly shaken and quickly swallowed the words he was about to say, changing his wording.

"Don't ask, no surprises that way."

Lutina lowered her gun and gave the students a meaningful look.

Oslo felt dejected but didn't dare to retaliate, retreating back into the group of students.

Chen Lun silently led Noah and Anton, trailing at the end of the group toward the entrance of the forest.

Along the way, besides the three silent men, the couple excitedly talked about their wedding. Going on an adventure in the forest was their honeymoon trip. Lutina joked about how city people knew how to have fun and advised the couple not to engage in too intimate activities at night in case they needed to run away from danger.

This comment made the couple somewhat embarrassed, and the other five students also quietly chatted amongst themselves, looking uneasy.

Chen Lun subtly used Peek Life to scan everyone present and found that they were all ordinary people. However, the leading guide, Lutina, was a bit odd because there was a piece missing from her destiny track.

The missing part seemed like a starting point and also like an endpoint, blurring Chen Lun's view of her past and future.

This inevitably raised some doubts in his mind and increased his alertness slightly.

'This Lutina, she must be hiding some secrets.'

Chen Lun thought.

He then turned his attention back to the three nondescript men. Although they didn't speak, they were constantly communicating through looks and micro-expressions, none of which escaped Chen Lun's eyes.

From certain details, it was clear they also harbored some unspeakable secrets.

Since they were merely ordinary people, Chen Lun lost interest in watching further and directly used Mental Steal to probe their thoughts.

Seconds later, he raised an eyebrow and a slight smile appeared on his face.

The three men didn't notice anything amiss, unaware that their deepest secrets had been thoroughly exposed by Chen Lun.

'So they are three members of organized crime... heading into the forest to seek vengeance? Someone embezzled their money and goods and escaped into the forest, and these three unfortunate fellows were dispatched by their gang to find the person.'

Chen Lun shook his head in thought, reflecting on how there are societal entanglements wherever there are people.

Soon, the group followed Lutina into a deserted area, no longer surrounded by the commercial buildings of the town, only occasionally seeing a few abandoned cottages.

Up ahead, a vast expanse of huge barbed-wire fences appeared, tethered every seven or eight meters by iron poles, separating Kellettville Forest from human society.

Moreover, located in the northeast corner, there were two watchtowers, seemingly manned to prevent unauthorized individuals from damaging the barbed wire and entering the interior of the forest.

"Attention! Ahead is the Empire's restricted area, Kellettville Forest! Whoever you are, halt immediately and turn back... This warning will be given only twice. Those who do not heed it will be shot on sight!"

A middle-aged man's voice emanated from the loudspeakers in the watchtower.

The group immediately stopped, looking uncertainly at Lutina.

"Wait here for me. Watch for my signal before coming over."

Lutina spoke nonchalantly to the group, then turned around.

She then carried the double-barreled shotgun and wearing her backpack, walked toward the watchtower.
