It Seems My Job Aptitude Didn't Come with Human Rights

Chapter 8

【Flashback Arc】 Childhood Days 8

Several years had passed.

As the heir of the Count of Fallentail's family, Lars had grown up quickly. However, he didn't seem to be revered as the next head of the family.

Why is that?

I wondered and asked Irinya, who explained it to me. Apparently, in this world, there's a ceremony to assess one's job aptitude at the age of five.

And my job aptitude was a merchant—an occupation viewed as the least desirable for a noble. Therefore, while a human baron's daughter might typically serve as a maid, in my case, it was Irinya, a beastman, who became my exclusive maid.

This choice apparently adhered to my childhood preference, though Johanson probably would not have permitted it if he had been considering my future.

The concept of job aptitude left a strong impression on me when I first learned about it.

Wait. Don't get your hopes up. This isn't a game.

I tried to restrain myself but failed. Unable to hide my excitement, I bombarded Irinya with questions about job aptitude, and surprising revelations unfolded.

As it turns out, it's customary for both humans and beastmen to have their job aptitude assessed at age five. It seems widely accepted that pre-existing living conditions significantly influence the results.

Thus, many noble families have their children study swords, spears, or magic from early childhood. The existing occupations include warrior, magician, archer, thief, cleric, and merchant.

Yes. They're exactly the same as in the game, 『Lord of Grandeur』.

Moreover, those who undergo training in their occupation can acquire unique skills and, after ten to twenty years of repeated training, may attain exceptional strength.

Historical accounts tell of a Legendary Swordsman who founded the Harvey Kingdom, overcoming a superior nation's numbers in battle.

Other renowned figures with unique occupations such as Grand Magicians, knights, hunters, and Priests often left either heroic or infamous legacies.

Regardless of how power is used, the notion of advanced professions undoubtedly exists. However, Irinya seemed unfamiliar with individuals who became Alchemists or Machine Meisters.

With all this information, my excitement skyrocketed. Born as the inconvenient scion of a declining noble family, with a stepmother, and sidelined as heir, I initially despaired at my mistreatment. But the existence of occupational concepts from my beloved 『LOG』 filled me with hope.

Extrapolating from that, I deduced that if taught swordsmanship early in life, one's job aptitude might favor physical abilities, resulting in a warrior aptitude.

Conversely, studying magic and accumulating intellectual capacity could lead to a magician aptitude.

In 『LOG』, starting with an initial profession involved beginning with an adult-like appearance. Given this, childhood growth likely determined job aptitude in this world.

The absence of advanced professions related to merchants or thieves might simply reflect their lack of opportunities to gain combat experience.

With this realization, everything simply fell into place. Whether or not I inherited the count's title was irrelevant. The imperative was singular: would I realize my dream of becoming the Legendary Magitech Engineer?

Thereafter, I engaged in daily experiments to enhance my skills as a merchant and verify whether skill points could be allocated. This was within the context of the reincarnation system I believed I had selected.

Given that my appearance mirrored the character I crafted, and my job aptitude aligned as a merchant, I felt a connection to the game's final impression. My last gameplay involved implementing a new system—reincarnation—via an update.

Thus, even beginning as a merchant again, I believed I retained a hundred skill points.

Typically, when transitioning from an advanced role, one maintains these points, suggesting becoming a Magus was only a matter of time.

This hypothesis thrilled me to no end. Of course, I needed to ensure I retained a place to reside, hence I adhered to my father's instructions, receiving lessons in noble decorum and swordsmanship—not merely for show.

I absorbed teachings on the kingdom's history and requisite knowledge as a lord. Speculation about rumors circulated, given that both my stepmother and some servants cast cold glances my way, yet I remained unfazed.

The task at hand was clear. I needed to enhance my proficiency as a merchant and transition to an advanced profession as rapidly as possible. For increasing one's occupational proficiency, particular tasks exist.

In the case of merchants, these revolve around buying and selling goods, crafting items, or earning a cumulative sales target—most tasks pertain to commerce.

Achievements could even be made among players, so, as an experiment, I occasionally had Irinya make something and purchased it, or vice-versa. Irinya completely mistook this for play.

Amidst these varied daily activities, a life-altering event occurred.

My younger brother, Nils, turned five, and his job aptitude was assessed. Nils, wielding a sword since age two under my father's hopes, became a warrior. Even so, my existence still held worth, as Nils' backup option.

However, a year later, my position vanished completely. My third brother, Erik, turned five, and upon job aptitude assessment, my standing crumbled.

Erik's aptitude as a magician, the most sought after in our kingdom, was revealed. It was no exaggeration to say that either Nils or Erik was now the primary heir candidate.

Presumed to have no merit beyond attractiveness, I was definitively marked for dismissal.
