Chapter 19: Chapter 19: Using You to Defeat Him
The doorbell rang.
Not long after finishing his bath, with his hair still damp, Murakami Yuu looked through the peephole and saw an unexpected person.
"How do you know where I live?"
Opening the front door, Murakami Yuu asked the nighttime visitor calmly.
"Iizuka Takeya told Yuko, and Yuko passed it on to me."
Tachibana Rui answered honestly while raising her arm to hand over a small dessert box she was holding.
"What's the meaning of this?"
"A visiting gift."
"Are you sure it's a visiting gift and not a thank-you gift?"
There was an implication in his words.
Tachibana Rui clearly understood the teasing meaning in Murakami Yuu's words, and her pale red eyes glanced at him with dissatisfaction.
"I'll accept the gift. Come in if you have something to say."
"Excuse me for intruding."
Although she knew Murakami Yuu lived alone, Tachibana Rui still followed her polite habits and said this courteously upon entering.
Murakami Yuu looked at her impassively, the corners of his mouth slightly raised.
After guiding her to sit on the sofa, Murakami Yuu didn't directly ask about her purpose for coming tonight. Instead, he chose to go to the kitchen to divide the cake dessert she brought onto two plates, adding small forks before bringing them to the coffee table.
"I only have canned carbonated drinks readily available at home. If you don't like them, there's also flower tea and instant coffee—I can make some for you."
"Then coffee, please. Thank you."
Murakami Yuu, who had just sat down on the sofa, was somewhat stunned.
He had only said this casually out of politeness, but didn't expect Tachibana Rui to so naturally make a request, completely without any courtesy.
"What's wrong?"
Seeing Murakami Yuu's strange expression, Tachibana Rui was somewhat puzzled.
"Nothing, I'll go make it for you. Wait a moment."
Murakami Yuu got up and walked toward the kitchen. Was this person naturally airheaded or doing it on purpose? Honestly, their contact time was too short for him to tell.
The moment Murakami Yuu turned around, Tachibana Rui smugly curved her lips. When he returned carrying the brewed coffee, she had returned to her calm expression.
"Your coffee."
"Thank you."
Tachibana Rui picked up the coffee, blew on it, and sipped it in small mouthfuls.
Murakami Yuu noticed that while he was making coffee, the cake in front of Tachibana Rui had already been completely finished.
Really, what exactly did you come here for?
Glancing at her, Murakami Yuu said nothing more, and the two fell into silence.
The atmosphere at this moment was quite strange, but fortunately the TV was on and playing a variety show. Under the lively BGM, this awkward atmosphere wasn't too obvious.
Murakami Yuu ate the dessert cake while using his peripheral vision to observe Tachibana Rui.
Today she was wearing a light blue women's shirt with not all buttons fastened—two were undone from the top, revealing attractive collarbones.
Her lower body wore pure cotton straight shorts with the shirt tucked in, secured with a small black belt that outlined her slender waist.
Her legs pressed together weren't wearing stockings, but still looked pleasing to the eye—well-proportioned and slender, blindingly white under the indoor lighting.
"I want to ask you for a favor."
After a stalemate, it was ultimately Tachibana Rui, playing the away game, who spoke first.
"What an abrupt way to start. If I remember correctly, yesterday you told us to pretend we don't know each other from now on."
Murakami Yuu pulled out a tissue and wiped cake cream that had accidentally gotten on the corner of his mouth.
Although the other party had once experienced some unspeakable things with him, that didn't mean he had to obey her requests.
Moreover, the other party had recently expressed not wanting to continue having any connection with him, but now when she needed help, she came back to ask for his assistance. In such a situation, wouldn't simply agreeing to her request directly make him seem too much like a dog?
"Sorry, my words yesterday were problematic, but I don't think you're such a petty man."
"Petty or not aside, I'm more curious about why you would think to ask me for help?"
"Because I don't have any other friends who could help me with this."
"Couldn't you ask those two girls who were with you at the mixer that day?"
"They're just school friends. Our relationship isn't close enough for that, so I can't ask them."
Murakami Yuu nodded, indicating he understood, picked up his drink and took a sip, but didn't provide any follow-up.
"I won't let you help for nothing."
Seeing Murakami Yuu sitting there calmly waiting for a price, Tachibana Rui gave her conditions as she had originally planned:
"If you can help me with this favor, I'll owe you a debt. If you need anything in the future, I'll also help you, as long as it's anything I can do."
"But I don't think I'll have anything that needs your help..."
Seeing Tachibana Rui's expression turn uncertain, Murakami Yuu changed his tone:
"But who doesn't have difficult times? Helping others is helping yourself. Having more friends is never a bad thing."
"Friends, huh..."
Tachibana Rui pondered his words.
"So you're agreeing?"
"Mm, but..."
Murakami Yuu extended his palm.
"What do you mean?"
Tachibana Rui was somewhat puzzled.
"Don't you understand?"
Murakami Yuu waved his open palm at her again.
After thinking for a moment, Tachibana Rui very reluctantly stood up, came to Murakami Yuu's side, and lightly slapped his palm.
"What are you doing?"
Black lines appeared on Murakami Yuu's forehead.
"Weren't you wanting to celebrate the birth of our friendship with a high-five?"
Tachibana Rui answered matter-of-factly.
The hell with birth of friendship.
Taking a deep breath, Murakami Yuu explained:
"What I meant is, having me help with just owing one favor is too little. At least five."
Tachibana Rui was stunned. For a moment, she couldn't react to how there could be such a shameless person in the world.
"Celebrities are divided into A, B, and C-list, and people are the same. I don't think I'm a dragon among men, but I can still meet the standard of being a promising young talent. So having me help for five favors isn't a loss for you."
Murakami Yuu said this with a straight face and very serious tone.
This once again refreshed Tachibana Rui's understanding of the extent of human shamelessness.
"How about it? If it's acceptable, shall we settle on this?"
Murakami Yuu leaned back on the sofa, crossed his legs, and smiled.
Tachibana Rui met his gaze and spoke flatly:
"I don't remember you being such a smooth talker."
"That's the social face I show to the outside world. Privately, I'm very easygoing."
"This isn't easygoing, it's shameless."
"Say whatever you want. My demand is right here. How you choose is up to you."
Tachibana Rui glanced at him, thought for a moment, then slowly spoke:
"No matter what, five favors is too many. I can't accept that."
"Then what's your minimum expectation?"
"At most three times. I'll help you at most three times."
"Hah... three times, huh..."
Murakami Yuu sighed and showed a troubled expression, seeming not too satisfied with this result, but quickly made up his mind:
"Understood. Then let's settle on that. What do you need my help with? Let me say upfront—I won't do anything too excessive or illegal."
"You agreed just like that?"
The speed of his agreement somewhat surprised Tachibana Rui.
"What else? Should I bargain with you some more? That's not my personality. Besides, given our relationship, we don't need to calculate so clearly, right?"
Murakami Yuu suppressed his laughter internally but showed not a trace of it on the surface.
"I feel like... I've somehow been calculated by you..."
"Why would you think that? Isn't this a willing transaction proposed by you yourself?"
Tachibana Rui was momentarily speechless at this rebuttal. With her thoughts somewhat confused, she didn't continue thinking deeply.
After sitting back on the sofa, she slowly narrated what she needed Murakami Yuu's help with.
"I have an older sister who's dating a married man."
After Tachibana Rui said this, Murakami Yuu almost instantly understood her intention.
"You want your sister to break up with that guy and get back on the right track in life?"
"Yes."
Tachibana Rui nodded in confirmation of Murakami Yuu's guess.
"I see..."
Murakami Yuu nodded. This was quite a simple matter—just making people break up. There were many ways to operate this, not something difficult to solve.
"I can help with this, but after it's done, don't forget the promise you made to me."
"Mm."
Tachibana Rui nodded, then also extended three fingers toward Murakami Yuu:
"It is indeed about making my sister break up, but there are three points that absolutely must be noted during the process."
"Go ahead."
"First, my mother can't know about this. Her work is already very hard, and I don't want her to worry about this kind of thing."
"Understood."
The plan of having parents intervene could be thrown out.
"Second, my sister's workplace can't know about this. That would have bad consequences—in serious cases, she might even be directly fired."
"Of course."
"Third, you can't use forceful methods to make my sister break up. I don't want her to be hurt."
"Your three points just killed most of the plans in my head..."
Murakami Yuu was somewhat helpless.
"I do have an idea, and it's because of this idea that I came to your door tonight with cake to ask for your help."
Tachibana Rui said.
"This is getting interesting. If you have an idea, why not just implement it yourself? Why come to me?"
"Because implementing the idea specifically requires your help, and only you can help."
"Oh? I actually play such an important role? Now I'm really curious—what's your idea?"
Murakami Yuu changed from leaning back against the sofa to sitting upright, looking at Tachibana Rui with full curiosity.
"Since my sister became the third party destroying someone else's marriage, we can also find someone to do the same—insert them into this forbidden romance to destroy their relationship from the inside out."
Tachibana Rui spoke slowly, clearly and with a definite train of thought.
"Ah..."
Murakami Yuu drew out the sound, suddenly understanding:
"I see, defeat the mistress with a mistress, right? What a great idea. Do you have a candidate in mind?"
Tachibana Rui looked at Murakami Yuu without blinking.
"Hey..."
Stare...
"I'm a student..."
Stare...
"..."
Stare...
"Whatever. If you think this method can really work, I don't mind trying, though I think the success rate isn't high."
Murakami Yuu compromised.
"Don't worry. My sister is face-obsessed and easily develops feelings for good-looking people. The reason she fell into this emotional quagmire this time is entirely because that decent-looking guy conquered her defenses with sweet words.
With your looks, you should easily be able to win over my face-obsessed sister. Then after coaxing her to cut ties with that man, you can just find an opportunity to break up and disappear. It's a perfect strategy."
"..."
Tachibana Rui's explanation sounded reasonable, but somehow Murakami Yuu felt something wasn't quite right.
"Understood. We'll do as you said. Looking at your appearance, I don't think it would happen, but considering genes can mutate sometimes, I'll still ask:
Your sister—how old is she, and is she good-looking?"
Murakami Yuu asked.
"She graduated not long ago and is six years older than me. Very good-looking. If she weren't good-looking, how could a married man pursue her so frantically?"
Tachibana Rui, sensing Murakami Yuu's concerns, gave a direct answer:
"Any other questions?"
"Um... what if special circumstances arise?"
"What special circumstances?"
Tachibana Rui was puzzled.
Seeing she really didn't understand, Murakami Yuu looked up at the ceiling, then clapped his hands together repeatedly.
"Clap" "Clap" "Clap"...
Rhythmic sounds echoed through the living room.
"What else can you do! Hold it in!"
Tachibana Rui suddenly had the urge to bite someone.
"Alright, I understand the general situation."
Murakami Yuu took out his phone from the side:
"Before that, let's exchange contact numbers."
Tachibana Rui complied, taking out her phone from her pants pocket—it had a small doll charm attached.
"That's about it. Next we need to find a specific time to try this. It's getting late—are you going back today?"
The electronic clock on the wall showed 9:40 PM.
"I'm not going back. When I came out today, I already told my mother I'd be staying at a classmate's house tonight."
"You want to stay at my place?"
Murakami Yuu's expression was somewhat playful.
"I won't trouble you. I'll figure out sleeping arrangements myself when the time comes. Before that, we need to go out."
"What do you mean?"
"My sister is working overtime today and won't get off until after ten. According to her usual habits, after work she'll go to a familiar bar for a few drinks."
Tachibana Rui looked at Murakami Yuu with expectant eyes:
"Go change clothes now. We can go there directly later and create a beautiful encounter—consider it making a good first impression."
"..."
I really don't know if having you as a sister is good or bad for your sister.
Murakami Yuu said nothing more. Considering they'd be going to a bar that only admitted adults, he got up and walked toward his late parents' room.
