Chapter 140: 140 Aftermath
A mysterious orchid-colored portal appeared in the laboratory. Altair jumped out of it, turning around to watch as the portal slowly faded away. The colors of the lab returned to normal.
Altair was back.
The sound of running water from the bathroom next door reached his ears. Ever since being strengthened by the divine power of the Campione world, Altair's five senses had been greatly enhanced. Now that he had returned, he could easily hear sounds within a certain range—and he could even selectively filter them.
Altair remembered that when he left, Hestia and Saeko were taking a bath together. The sound of water must have been from them. It seemed they were still in the middle of their bath.
Slumping into a chair in the research lab, Altair listened to the splashing water while a mischievous smile appeared on his face.
Since his wives would take a while to finish bathing, he decided to wait. In the meantime, he reached into his dimensional storage bag to take out a few items for testing.
In the Campione world, Altair had incredible luck. As soon as he arrived, he received assistance from Mr. Hawk, killed Nidhogg, and obtained the dragon transformation authority. Later, with Luo Hao's help, he defeated Sun Wukong and gained Godspeed.
After that, Altair returned to his territory.
Per Altair's request, his territory was transformed into a new technological metropolis, much like Academy City, dedicated to high-tech research.
With full support from the Holy Cult, the city's core areas were constructed within a month. The research facilities were fully equipped, and under Altair's urging, Luo Hao moved into the central tower. There, she served as the city's mascot, activating her divine power aura to enhance technological advancements.
Luo Hao was reluctant to take on this role, but since it was an order from her "dear brother," she had no choice but to obey.
However, before heading to Lushan, Luo Hao used her limited free time to give Lu Yinghua some intense "training," making his days quite miserable.
During this month, Altair had been dedicated to his research.
He particularly loved these kinds of dungeons, where he could enter and exit freely. To him, it was like playing with civilizations, and the rewards were exceptionally generous. These dungeons essentially gave him extra time.
For example, in a normal 24-hour day, he could spend 20 hours in the Danmachi world, getting affectionate with Hestia or grinding monsters in the dungeon with Saeko. But after that, he still had another 24 hours—or even more—in the Campione world, where he could focus on research and other tasks.
Although the Danmachi world was Altair's main base, it was still a world of swords and magic, which meant certain conveniences were lacking—like long-distance communication.
Altair possessed the intelligence of Gray Wolf, but due to material limitations and various constraints, conducting research in the Danmachi world was difficult. However, in the Campione world, as a Demon King, he had an abundance of resources and authority to carry out his studies.
Thus, he developed a long-distance communication device powered by divine energy. This device was linked to the earth itself, using the land as its base station. By storing divine energy in the communicator and channeling it through the ley lines, ultra-long-distance communication became possible.
In the Campione world, even in environments where divine energy is chaotic, this communicator could still function. Normally, when a Campione or a Heretic God unleashes their power, all modern electronic communication devices are rendered useless. The affected area would fall into complete communication blackout—but this communicator could still operate.
However, its greatest value was not in the Campione world, but in the Danmachi world.
What Altair wanted was to complete his research and bring the device back to the Danmachi world. That way, while exploring the dungeon, he could conveniently stay in contact with Hestia and Saeko.
In addition to that, he also developed a magic-powered version of the communicator. It wasn't as powerful as the divine energy version and required a mana-powered base station to function. However, in the Danmachi world, magic-based tools were far more widely accepted than electrical ones. The world had an abundance of magic stones and an ample supply of mana. If Altair wanted to develop an electrical industry, he would first have to establish an infrastructure company to lay power grids, which would be far too time-consuming.
Compared to the divine energy communicator, the magic communicator had another drawback—it had weaker signal strength. Based on Altair's calculations, once a base station was set up in Orario, surface-level communication would work flawlessly. However, once inside the dungeon, the signal would deteriorate significantly. Underground environments were highly effective at blocking signals, and the deeper one went, the less likely any communication would be possible.
That was the limitation of the magic communicator. But even with these drawbacks, Altair was certain it would sell well in the Danmachi world. After all, the ability to communicate over long distances on the surface was already a major selling point.
That's right—Altair planned to bring the magic communicator to the Danmachi world and sell it.
It wasn't because he needed money. Rather, he wanted to give Hestia something to do.
Originally, Hestia had been working at a fried potato ball shop. But after Altair joined her Familia, his protective instincts—perhaps his own personal sense of male pride—kicked in. He didn't want Hestia working so hard outside, so he asked her to quit. He would take care of her instead. Hestia agreed, which was a standard practice for Familias anyway. The Familia was responsible for providing for its deity. But in Altair's eyes, he was simply taking care of his beloved wife.
However, the Hestia Familia had too few members. Once Altair entered the dungeon, Hestia would be left completely alone. That was why he always made sure to return before dinner—he wanted to spend more time with her.
But as he leveled up, things changed—especially after he reached an expedition agreement with Loki. Expeditions required venturing deep into the dungeon for days, sometimes even weeks.
When that time came, Hestia would be alone for ten to fifteen days at a time.
That was why Altair developed the divine energy communicator—so he could always stay in touch with Hestia while inside the dungeon. The magic communicator, on the other hand, was meant for Hestia to run a business.
Not as a store clerk, but as the store owner. She could hire employees to keep her company. Sales figures didn't matter—what mattered was that Hestia wouldn't be lonely.
Moreover, Hestia had a personality that loved to show off. Altair was confident the magic communicator would sell well. As its reputation grew, so would the fame of the Hestia Familia. And with Hestia's love for flexing, she would have a much easier time holding her own at Denatus, where she could proudly show off her success.
Everything he did—it was all for his beloved Hestia.
