Chapter 5: CHAPTER 5
After a good amount of stretching, Jeren steps out of the ward and heads toward Liya.
As he walks through the corridor, several nurses stare at him in shock, as if they hadn't expected Dane to wake up from his coma so soon.
"Everyone's looking at me as if they've just seen a hero. Sure, I admit I'm handsome, but it still feels weird when women look at me like that," he mutters to himself.
As Jeren reaches Liya's ward, his eyes widen in disbelief—Liya isn't there. He searches the entire ward thoroughly but finds no trace of her.
A wave of anger washes over him, and he storms out of the ward.
"Where's my sister?" he yells loudly, his voice echoing throughout the corridor.
His furious gaze sweeps over everyone around him, and the nurses avoid making eye contact, trembling under his rage.
Jeren strides directly to the main counter where a nurse is seated.
Seeing him approach, the nurse becomes visibly nervous but still asks,
"How can I help you, sir?"
When her eyes meet Jeren's, she notices the fiery anger in them, as if he's ready to strike her down right then and there. Her hands begin to tremble.
"Where is my sister? Did you people shift her to another ward?" Jeren's voice is sharp and cold, his face demanding the truth.
The nurse, with no other option, spills everything.
Two days ago, a couple claiming to be Liya's aunt and uncle came to meet her. The nurse had informed them that Dane, like his sister, was also in a coma.
Upon hearing this, the couple had wept, but they left without saying much. The next day, however, Liya disappeared from her ward.
The hospital staff searched everywhere but failed to find her. Eventually, they had no choice but to file a police report.
Even after hearing the explanation, Jeren continues to glare at the nurse, his eyes piercing.
"Give me back my phone," he demands, extending his hand. Since everything he had on him was confiscated upon his hospital admission, his belongings were with the staff.
"Give me five minutes; I'll bring it right away,"
the nurse stammers before running off. She returns quickly and places the phone in Jeren's hand.
Jeren tries to power on the phone, his intense gaze still fixed on the nurse, but it doesn't turn on—the battery is completely drained.
Jeren blames the nurse for this too. Frustrated, he kicks the counter table hard and walks away.
The moment he leaves, everyone breathes a sigh of relief, as they had feared Jeren was about to create a massive scene.
However, he left without causing further trouble, as he had more urgent matters to attend to than fighting with the hospital staff.
Still wearing the hospital gown, Jeren yawns as he walks down the road, looking around casually.
With both hands clasped behind his head, he strolls as if the road belongs to him.
Suddenly, he realizes someone is following him. He stops abruptly, causing his pursuer to panic and hide behind some bushes.
Jeren lowers his hands from behind his head and turns around, squinting his eyes slightly.
He spots the person hiding behind the bushes but decides not to expose them just yet. He, too, wants to figure out why this person is following him.
A faint smile appears on Jeren's lips as he bends down, picks up a stone, and slips it into his pocket. Then, without turning back, he resumes walking.
The person hiding behind the bushes peeks out cautiously and, seeing Jeren walking away, quickly sends a message someone:
– That bastard is out of the coma, and he looks perfectly fine. We'll have to do something about him because the doctor said he even threatened him and found out about Black.
Jeren was heading toward his home when a thought crossed his mind:
"No relatives came to see us all these years since our parents died, so where did these so-called relatives suddenly appear from? And why did they take Liya with them?"
While walking, Jeren bumps into someone.
"Ughh! Can't you watch where you're going?" Jeren yells loudly.
When Jeren angrily looks ahead, he sees a short boy standing in front of him, chewing gum and scanning him from head to toe.
The boy was wearing an oversized T-shirt, and his white hair gleamed under the light.
"Hey, patient! Go back to the hospital if you can't see properly. Why are you wandering around on the road?" the boy snaps back at Jeren.
"Oi, shorty! Didn't your parents teach you not to mess with people bigger than you?"
The boy's eyes widen at Jeren's words.
"Move aside! Don't block my way," Jeren says and lightly smacks the boy on the head.
The smack bruises the boy's pride, so as soon as Jeren starts walking away, the boy punches him on the back.
Feeling the blow, Jeren's head snaps back in irritation, and he turns around angrily, ready to punch the boy in return. But seeing how small the boy already is, he restrains himself.
"One punch from me, and you'll be dead. Don't mess with me, Jeren says.
"I may look small, but I have the strength of ten people. Do you want to test me?" the boy says with full confidence.
"I don't need to test anything. Go home," Jeren says, about to turn and leave.
Just then, two or three sport bikes pull up, each with two boys on them, revving their engines, making a loud vroom vroom sound.
Jeren looks at them, wondering who these people are, but the boy in front of him seems ready to fight, as they are his enemies.
"Lucky, today you're all alone. Let's see how you get out of this," says one of the boys sitting on the bike.
Lucky is the name of the boy standing next to Jeren. It's important to know two things about Lucky:
First, he's incredibly lucky since the day he was born.
That's why his name is Lucky. Even if someone tries to kill him, he won't die. Because of this, he's never lost a fight, and he hasn't even won any through his own strength.
Second, he has the ability to make anyone angry with just a single move.
