Chapter 594: Weakness
Just when Rain was planning to check the demi-humans once and for all, Seadir arrived at his base and it seemed that he had some important information about them.
"Sorry, it took me a while to find something about them in the middle of that massively annoying library," Seadir said. "Considering what you told me from the perspective of the humans, you missed a few things about them since the big events that they were involved in, humans weren't involved."
"Hoh… is that so?" Rain asked. "What they did do that you find it so interesting?"
"What exactly happened?"
Seadir told them about an intriguing historical situation as he began to explain a significant event that had transpired around three thousand years ago. It revolved around the complex relationship between the sea dragons, dragons, and the demi-humans.
It seemed that the sea dragons had held a territorial claim over a large area of the sea, and they were quite adamant that it belonged solely to them. Even though the sea folk had their own realm, the sea dragons didn't take kindly to the presence of demi-humans in their chosen territory.
Their concerns escalated to the point where they sought the assistance of the dragons in dealing with the situation.
The dragons, eager to uphold their claim of authority and supremacy, decided to take action. Together with the sea dragons, they launched an attack on the demi-humans living in that area. This violent assault resulted in the deaths of many demi-humans and the enslavement of those who survived the onslaught.
The dragons utilized their authority magic to subjugate and control the enslaved demi-humans. However, the resilience and determination of these captives could not be underestimated. After enduring five hundred years of oppression, they eventually managed to break free from the dragons' domination. They successfully rebelled and drove the dragons away. Since then, they have lived in total isolation.
This tumultuous event in history illustrated the complex dynamics between these different species and the deep-seated territorial disputes that had shaped their interactions for millennia. Still, that raised a lot more questions than Rain had expected.
"This makes me think that you should postpone this visit for a while," Seara said while showing the uneasiness on her face. "At least until we can improve the Seals. Until now, I didn't think that they could be a problem to you, but I am having second thoughts."
"The registers didn't say anything about a lot of dragons being killed, so the demi-humans probably used some other method to make them run away," Seadir added and then he noticed that Seara was getting angry since he wasn't helping. "By the way, what are those seals you are speaking of?"
Rain found himself at a difficult spot, contemplating whether he should tell the intricacies of how the seals he had created actually worked to Seadir. After all, Seadir was more than just a brother-in-law; he was also a trusted friend, someone Rain could trust in.
With this in mind, Rain decided to share the secrets behind the seals with Seadir. He believed in the importance of trust and open communication, especially when dealing with friends and allies. So, he began to explain the mechanisms and principles that governed the seals, ensuring that Seadir could try it at some point.
As Rain delved deeper into the historical event provided by Seadir, his thoughts began to wander. He couldn't help but wonder about the intriguing turn of events. It appeared that the demi-humans had managed to somehow stop the sea dragons and reclaim their lands, freeing themselves from the dragons' rule forever.
Rain pondered whether the demi-humans had discovered some hidden tricks or perhaps acquired a powerful relic that allowed them to regain their territory. The idea of such a relic or secret method interests him, as it would explain how the oppressed had turned the tide and repelled their oppressors. The mystery surrounding this aspect of their history only deepened the enigma of the past.
"They are a lot more like humans than any of the other species, right?" Rain asked. "Maybe they are good at making things such as magic relics, and probably one of them is good against dragons. Maybe they are weak against garlic, silver and crosses."
"That is a weird combination of weakness, and I can't imagine why dragons would have such weakness," Terra said.
"Anyway, it might be dangerous, but I know a way to watch them from a safe distance," Rain said. "Watch and learn."
Rain employed his magical abilities to create a powerful telescope made of metal and glass. It was quite well made, and that would allow him to peer into the distance with remarkable clarity. With this extraordinary device, he could easily observe objects and landscapes up to twenty kilometers away, offering a level of precision that was truly impressive for a prototype
However, as Rain unveiled yet another of his ingenious creations to his wives, he couldn't help but notice their shared expression of suspicion. Their collective frowns hinted at a common sentiment they often felt when faced with Rain's unceasing inventions and innovations. Find exclusive stories on empire
Despite their reservations, they knew that Rain's ingenuity and resourcefulness always led to remarkable outcomes, even if his incessant tinkering left them occasionally doubtful.
"I should be able to watch them with this from a safe distance, a distance that I can cross in twenty seconds," Rain said. "Let's hope that they can't be this fast."
Hoping for that was a bit naive on Rain's part, but even Rain sometimes gets tired of constantly considering the worst-case scenario all the damn time.
"How far away is their territory again?" Terra asked.
"It should be around… three times the length of your country from one side to the other," Seadir explained
That should be around sixteen thousand kilometers… if Rain keeps using potions, he probably will be able to cross that distance in five hours, and he probably should do that to avoid being found out and gain time.
