Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 1148: System

Rain considered his options… the new system had the same parameters, but since he didn't have skills or paths in it, he couldn't burn his mana and stamina to make them level up. There was a class option, but he didn't have one, so he couldn't try to check what he could do with it.

"Something is happening. The air is changing," Elisabetha said.

Around ten minutes had passed since Rain woke up and for some reason, the cell suddenly was opened automatically. Rain didn't hesitate to leave the place. While it seemed like a trap, he was already inside a massive trap, so there was no point in worrying about such things.

Rain checked the other cells and confirmed that they were completely empty. On his right side, he could see a corridor that was turning to the left, and soon he found some stairs there.

"Can you feel the other relics nearby?" Rain asked. "Only Isa can erect a domain perfectly… and she didn't have a relic with her…"

The others were making progress, but it would take a few months for them to erect their own domains. Perhaps that situation would speed up their progress a bit, but Rain couldn't be so sure about that. He could only imagine that they were in similar situations, so they wouldn't have much time to do anything.

"I can hear some static, so they should be somewhere, trying to talk with those who have them," Elisabetha said. "Nigel has your blood, and she is with your daughter, so he might be able to talk with her eventually… I can't say if that will be a good thing or not."

Rain could only nod while he was climbing the stairs. He found another corridor, and then he found a box in the middle of an intersection that split to left and right. Rain stopped in front of that and touched the box that was opened automatically. Before long, Rain found a short sword, a bow, and a wand flying upward and stopping in front of him.

He had a really hard time controlling his urge not to kick the box with all his might.

"Don't you mess with me, assholes… do I look like a joke to you?" Rain asked while he felt his head throbbing.

As Rain stood there, staring at the weapons flying before him, an unsettling sensation crept over him. It had been a while since he last experienced it, but he could feel the shadow powering up on the edges of his consciousness once more. The deep-rooted anger and frustration within Elisabetha started to intertwine with Rain's own emotions, creating a volatile mix that summoned the familiar shadows.

The darkness began to weave itself into Rain's vision, casting an eerie filter over the surroundings. It was a manifestation of Elisabetha's hatred. Even without her conscious will, the lingering emotions emanating from the sword began to exert their influence on Rain.

As the shadows deepened, Rain's anger intensified, fueled by the absurdity of the situation. The weapons floating before him seemed like a joke, a mockery of their strength and capabilities. However, as the shadows threatened to engulf him entirely, Rain managed to regain control.

Taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes and focused on dispelling the darkness. It was a battle within himself, a struggle to rein in the emotions that threatened to consume him. Slowly but surely, Rain managed to calm the tempest of anger and resentment that raged within him. The shadows dissipated, leaving him standing there, a testament to his internal struggle.

"Your anger reached a dangerous level. I could feel the system reacting to it," Elisabetha said. "The overseer's system."

"I was probably about to unlock the wrath's path," Rain said while massaging his eyebrows. "Anyway, it seems that the enemy wants to have some fun watching us participate in some kind of game."

"You think that they might force you to fight the others?" Elisabetha asked. "I can't think of a better way for assholes to amuse themselves than seeing allies fight and kill each other."

"Yeah…" Rain squinted his eyes as the air around him vibrated in response to his will. "Regardless, I will be sure to keep them entertained. On very unexpected ways."

In the end, Rain touched the wand, and then the other items disappeared. Before long, Rain felt some knowledge come to his head as he sensed his body absorbing a bit of power from the wand.

Rain read and heard the notifications… the voice sure was excited while it was informing him of all that, but Rain only felt his blood boiling more. In any case, now he had something to work with. In the paths system, there was no spell like Mana Bullet, even though Rain had practiced something similar when he was a kid.

In any case, with his domain and Magic Sacrifice, he was able to level up the spell.

The spell Mana Bullet has leveled.

"Well… isn't this pretty handy?" Elisabetha asked. "If they can do this much, I bet they can add some level caps as well."

"Yeah, to avoid people using it becoming too strong," Rain thought. "Anyway, I will head left for now, even though I won't probably be able to return and choose another path."

It would be useful if Sakaki were there. With his analytical skills, he would be able to understand the system pretty fast and find ways to help them. Still, Rain soon forgot about that… he didn't want to think of seeing Seara unarmed in that kind of situation.
