Chapter 478: A Cousin's First Mistake
"W-Why are you staring at me like that…?" asked Su Yu with a blush.
"It's because I'm honestly baffled right now," replied Necro. "I was under the assumption that all humans were aware of the universal truth of there being a chance for anything to be possible. With that in mind, the possibility of me being some sort of color-changing lizard is certainly there."
"...."
"I want to hit you. Can I?" Su Yu requested politely.
"I'd prefer you didn't, human girl–..."
*Thwack!*
"I wasn't going to hit you, but I really hate it when you call me 'human girl'!!"
Necro looked down at where Su Yu's punch landed. "Feels like cotton."
*Tick!*
"Are you gonna help me or not, you big dum, dum, dummy!?" Su Yu could no longer take it anymore, and her freshly twisted twin tails swung around in hypnotic motion. "If not, then I'll just go do it by myself…!"
Just as she turned around in a cyclone of frustration, Necro appeared in front of her. His movements were synonymous with that of an illusory phantom.
"Lead the way, Miss Su Yu." Necro bowed at a slight angle. "This lowly tree-man lizard is at your beck and call."
"...Humph! Whatever!" Su Yu dismissively scoffed at him before walking ahead, where her face then contorted in euphoria as her heart thumped warmly in her chest. 'He really is just a big dum dum.'
Necro watched Su Yu's receding back. If she could see him right now, she'd surely question whether he was actually the same emotionless boy she knew.
Surprisingly, Necro was… smirking…
Unprecedented!
Was this a sign that a season of change was on the horizon??
Or was it simply a one-off occurrence…?
No one but God could say for certain.
— After some time of walking through the large steampunk city of River Mountain —
"So that help you mentioned… what you sounded so desperate to get me to use my strength for…" Necro stared blankly at the high-class bags wrung around his arms. "It was for… shopping…?"
"Yep, yep, hihi~"
He, who had decided the fates of whole Sects—killing thousands—was now reduced to little more than a… bag boy…
'Oh how the high have fallen…'
"Ooh~, you see that shop over there, Necro~??" Su Yu excitedly pointed at a classy open window selling sparkling dresses. "Let's hurry over before they sell out!"
"...They aren't going to sell out," said Necro with an expressionless face. "There's no one even shopping in there right now…"
"Teehee~, you never know; after all, there's always a c.h.a.n.c.e." Su Yu grinned mischievously. "Isn't that what you told me, you silly baka?"
Silence…
"Fine…"
Necro gave in.
"Yay~!" Su Yu's grin widened as she pulled Necro into the clothing shop. "For the rest of the day, you're mine and mine alone, Necro~!"
Necro sighed helplessly.
But at the same time, the smallest of smiles could be seen gracing his usually straightened lips.
"What a couple of cute kids."
"I know, right? I hope to have kids that cute one day, haiz…"
"Beautiful miss, I can assist you if you'd have me~"
"Just you?" the woman rebuked. "You're not even six feet tall, and there's no way you're making anywhere close to 7 figures. What qualifications do you have to be my partner?"
"This… But what about true love–...?"
"True love?" the woman repeated disdainfully. "That's nothing but a whimsical dream for the foolhardy. Now take out your wallet and let me see how much is in there."
"...Yes, ma'am…" the romantical man did as he was told in a disheartened way.
Others who were walking this particular street of River Mountain City also took notice of the adorable pair of kids acting like adults. And whether they meant to or not, Necro and Su Yu caused many couples to tensely discuss the topic of children.
Meanwhile, at a shadowy location a couple hundred feet away from the shop Necro and Su Yu were in—
"Have the preparations been made yet??" An arrogant voice sounded, followed by the grating of teeth.
"Yes, Young Master Han." A stout man in butler attire gave a prompt response. "Our contact—Underworld Boss Gon—has already gathered together his underlings. They'll be here within the minute."
Han Tiandong maliciously grinned. "Good, that little brat will soon feel my wrath! And as for that little bitch cousin of mine, she's always been so cocky. So once I arrive to save the day, I'd like to see how she grovels at my feet, thanking me for my heroic actions, haha!"
"Yes… You're as brilliant as always, Young Master Han." His butler concealed a disappointed sigh in his words of flattery. 'When did the Young Master become like this…? I've failed him as his guardian and mentor since young…'
After a while of shopping in a particular store, Su Yu happily pulled Necro out of it.
"Are you having as much fun as I am, dummy?" she asked once they made it onto the street, blending into the sea of people. "You make so many weird expressions when you don't know what to do, you know that? It's so funny, hehe~"
Necro looked at this cheeky girl, with various thoughts swirling inside his mind.
'Wasn't I supposed to be climbing up the hierarchical ladder of human society, aiming to acquire the means to reign undefeated and undisputed in the Blue Ring Region?' he asked himself. 'So how is it… that this is where I ended up…?'
Where—oh where—did he go wrong?
Just then, the stream of pedestrians opened up. Loud footsteps echoed thereafter as groups of menacing figures approached from multiple different directions, clearly deploying a trapping tactic.
Necro's eyes narrowed.
Of the groups of unsavory characters, there was one among them with an especially powerful aura. It belonged to a rotund man blinged up and dressed like a drug lord.
Activating his Divine Sight system feature, Necro saw:
{[Underworld Boss Gon Hulio]}
[Age: 67]
[Cultivation: Qi Condensation (7th Layer)]
[Affiliation: River Mountain City's Underworld]
[Mood: Murderous]
