Chapter 33: Chapter 33: Buy Sunflower Seeds for the Fool

Rena noticed the look in Zhou Yun's eyes.

It was the look one gives to a fool—filled with pity, mockery, and ridicule.

From Zhou Yun's eyes, she could almost read the words: What a fine child… too bad she's an idiot.

Before Rena could speak, Zhou Yun scooted his chair forward and spoke first.

"Do you eat sunflower seeds?" he asked earnestly. "Where I come from, it's customary to buy sunflower seeds for the fool after teasing them."

Seeing Zhou Yun's sincere expression, Rena felt her face burn with anger.

"I'm serious," she bit out. "You could at least try to be serious too."

"I am serious. Actually, I even have an idea of my own."

Zhou Yun chuckled lightly.

"How about this: we pool some money and build a border wall at Ashford's edge. Keep all those Tyranids outside. And for the sake of future tourism, we can tile the whole wall inch by inch with ceramic."

Rena's fists clenched as her face turned bright red. She took a deep breath and spoke, each word dripping with restrained fury: "I really want to blast your mouth into mince with a reinō hodō (psyker projectile)."

"You'd have to get in line," Zhou Yun replied with a smile.

Rena snorted and glared at Zhou Yun. "I've already started building that ark."

"Oh?" Zhou Yun raised an eyebrow.

"Seven or eight years ago, following a prophecy, I found the wreck and schematics of an ancient slave transport ship."

Rena met his gaze as she continued.

"Slave transport ships aren't complicated structurally, and they don't carry much in the way of weapons systems—they were used by merchants. With enough hands, even hive workers can build one."

"From the moment I founded the Ark Gang, I began organizing people to construct this ark. It's nearly complete now."

As if afraid Zhou Yun would interrupt, Rena rattled on almost without pausing.

"That transport was designed to carry as many people as possible. We can even squeeze more in if needed—enough to hold the population of all the districts under Ark Gang's control."

"I don't plan to sail far, just to the Baal system. The voyage is short and the supplies manageable."

Looking at Rena's serious face, Zhou Yun couldn't help but rub his temples.

Something felt… off. Extremely off.

It was full of flaws, yet oddly feasible—provided you ignored the biggest problem.

"You're not planning to just rely on conventional drives to fly through the material universe to Baal, are you?"

Zhou Yun tapped the table.

"What about a Navigator, a Geller Field, and a warp drive? Which of those do you have?"

"No Navigator," Rena admitted.

"But the distance from Hades Sector to Baal isn't far. It's a short-range voyage. Many merchant ships navigate using complex stellar triangulation."

"I've received formal mathematical training. Many hive workers have some math as well. Baal is a neighboring system. With teamwork, we can calculate precise coordinates."

"And the Geller Field… I have my own solution."

At this, Rena hesitated.

"Do you know what powers a Geller Field generator?"

Zhou Yun blinked.

"Psykers," he muttered. "It draws power from unconscious psykers. They weaken the barrier between reality and the warp in one direction while creating a reality bubble in the other."

"The person sitting in front of you is a reinōsha (psyker)." Rena pointed at herself.

Softly, she added: "We don't have a Geller generator. But if my reinō is drawn continuously, I can maintain a field long enough for a short trip."

She said it flatly.

But using a psyker in place of a Geller generator was incredibly dangerous—tantamount to using a psyker as a disposable item. Even a short voyage would likely leave her insane or dead.

"Are you planning to cosplay the Emperor?" Zhou Yun said blandly.

"No one can imitate the Emperor," Rena murmured, her fingers lightly touching the seigenroku (Book of Holy Words) tattoo on her cheek. "What I sacrifice is nothing compared to what He has already given."

"…That much is true," Zhou Yun finally said after staring at her for a moment.

"She really is a good kid with a kind heart," said the white-winged figure in the corner of Zhou Yun's vision.

"Some of the worst things in the galaxy start with good intentions," Zhou Yun replied silently. "Like Magnus' reinō hōdō (psychic cannon), Angron taking the Nails to protect his brothers, or the Ultramarines and Word Bearers at Calth…"

The figure said nothing in return.

Zhou Yun refocused on Rena. "Alright then… what about the warp engine? Don't tell me you're planning to just rip open a warp portal with your reinō."

Rena shook her head. "I don't have a warp engine yet. But I know where one is."

Zhou Yun frowned. "Where?"

Rena raised her finger and pointed at the ceiling.

"She's up-hive—a mathematician of sorts."

"I hope she's not into numerology," Zhou Yun muttered.
