I’m Not a Saint, Not a Priest, Just a Healer

Chapter 39 - Rubina (3)

There were so many ships entering and leaving the Grand Duchy of Capatia that it was difficult to count them all.
With deep waters along the coast, this port could accommodate various types of ships from large vessels to small fishing boats. A large passenger ship flying the Celestial Church flag entered the port.

As soon as the ship entered the port, mooring ropes as thick as an adult’s torso were lowered from the passenger ship.
Once these were firmly attached to the fixing pins, the passenger ship was quite stable, only gently swaying with the waves.

As soon as the gangplank made of thick oak planks was laid out, a red carpet was quickly rolled out on top of it.
The two most important figures among those on board, a man and a woman, appeared and slowly walked down the carpet onto the port.

“Is this Port Capatia?”
Bigrin’s face had improved somewhat.
Although she had suffered terribly from seasickness, after two weeks of sailing, she had adapted quite a bit and was now feeling better.

“Yes, it is.”
Bigrin nodded in response to Hero Ludvik’s question.
In fact, she didn’t know for sure either. She just assumed so because the servants had come to tell her they had arrived at Port Capatia and to prepare for disembarkation.

“It’s quite a large city…”
The hero kept looking around and exclaiming in admiration.
Although Bigrin felt a bit embarrassed by his somewhat rustic behavior, in truth, she too was busy looking around, her eyes rolling this way and that, even if she didn’t move her head like Ludvik.

You could say it was a city of vitality.
That was the first impression of Port Capatia.
Amidst the rough sea air, people’s voices were full of energy, and everywhere in this port overflowing with all kinds of sea creatures, there were people busy moving, processing, and clearing them away.

“Are you Saint Bigrin?”
While they were looking around, a white-haired man approached them with a smile.
The man, wearing pure white religious robes and a bishop’s mitre trimmed with red and gold thread, had a gentle smile, but Bigrin had never seen him before.

“I am Bishop Fileo of the Capatia Grand Duchy branch. I’ve come to welcome Saint Bigrin.”
“Ah, Bishop Fileo. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Bigrin slightly bowed, touching the front of her saint’s robe.
The saint’s robe, which was quite revealing to the point of being excessive, was very uncomfortable at first, but fortunately, she had gotten used to it now.

“You must be tired from your long journey. And this is…?”
As Bishop Fileo’s gaze turned to Ludvik, who was standing blankly next to Bigrin, he smiled brightly.

“I’m Ludvik. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Bishop Fileo.”
Bigrin inwardly sighed with relief at his unexpectedly normal self-introduction.
Ludvik had some oddly twisted aspects in strange areas, so she had nagged him a bit on the ship.
It was fortunate that he had improved somewhat.

“I’m glad to meet both of you. Now, please come this way. The church’s workers will unload your luggage.”
As Ludvik and Bigrin nodded, Bishop Fileo led the way with his usual warm smile.
Ludvik and Bigrin followed, and behind them came acolytes dressed in the Celestial Church’s religious robes.

Bigrin almost exclaimed in admiration without realizing it.
The cathedral standing before her eyes boasted an overwhelming size that was incomparable to the one she had stayed in at Evian.

The pure white bricks, which looked as if not even dust could have settled on them, each had the Celestial Church’s seal engraved in intaglio, and these bricks were stacked tightly to form high walls.
These walls formed a gentle curve to create an enclosure, and the arched bronze gate set in the wall had the figures of the guardian deities who protect the Celestial God’s side embossed on it.

As the bronze gate opened silently and smoothly, a garden spread out inside.
Perhaps heat stones were embedded here and there, as there was warmth unlike the slightly chilly outside air, and they walked casually on the white stepping stones spread out in between.

“You must be tired from your long journey, so I’ll first guide you to your lodgings.”
“Bi-Bishop, are you personally… guiding us?”
The acolytes standing behind Bigrin and Ludvik kept their eyes lowered and didn’t move.
Rather, as if it was natural for Bishop Fileo to do so, no one stepped forward.

“Yes, of course. The saint of the Celestial Church is the daughter most beloved by the Celestial God, isn’t she? Such a noble person, and moreover-”
Bishop Fileo glanced at Ludvik for a moment.
Ludvik had not yet been ordained.
In other words, it was impossible to know if this person was really the hero or not.
When the Celestial God descended and declared Bigrin as a saint, there was no mention of Ludvik who was beside her.
Only after going to the Inpula Church Territory and having his divinity and weapon assessed would he be declared a hero, so for now…

“-as you are the saint’s companion.”
Ludvik’s eyebrow twitched slightly.
He wasn’t so oblivious as to not understand the meaning behind Bishop Fileo’s words.

“That’s right. Indeed, I shouldn’t call myself a hero until I’m officially recognized.”
Ludvik smiled readily.
“Thank you for understanding. Now, please come this way.”
Bishop Fileo guided Ludvik and Bigrin to their lodgings.
The room was very spacious but also neat.
Filled with simple furnishings, it was a room perfectly suited for a clergyperson to stay in.

“Ugh-”
Ludvik groaned as he lay down on the bed.
The mattress, made by tightly packing and shaping cotton, only deformed slightly when he lay down, but the comfort when lying on it was excellent.

“Well, I feel like I’m rubbing people the wrong way everywhere.”
Ludvik is in the prime of his youth.
Well, since the Celestial God said he was the hero and even bestowed the holy spear, he himself has no doubt that he is the hero.
But it was quite bothersome that he had to go all the way to this place called the Inpula Church Territory to be ordained.

“…They say disaster is approaching.”
Is this really the time to be leisurely dawdling?
He had willingly embarked on this journey thinking that he would be able to learn more about what was happening when they reached the Church Territory.
But after taking a month to reach Capatia and hearing that it would take another two weeks by carriage to reach the Inpula Church Territory, he couldn’t help but wonder if he had made the right decision.

It felt like a waste of time.
Being from an adventurer background, he thought it might be faster to go to the Adventurers’ Guild and press the informants for information in true adventurer fashion.
While high-level information might be in Inpula, he couldn’t ignore the possibility of finding something strange by sifting through various pieces of information, even if they weren’t high-level.

Ludvik suddenly sat up from his lying position.
He wanted to go to the Adventurers’ Guild in Capatia right away, but he was a bit concerned about the saint.
She seemed physically weak, and he naturally worried whether she could keep up with the hero’s journey.

A month had passed since they left the village.
It had been days of just walking straight according to the map without any particular incidents.
There were a few villages in between, but following Kairoc’s advice that it was better to move quickly rather than stay, they only resupplied necessary items and moved on immediately.

“This is called a windmill flower. Look, doesn’t the petal look like a windmill?”
“What’s a windmill?”
“A windmill is-”

Rubina traveled while being carried on James’ back, chatting quietly.
It would be impossible for a 10-year-old child to keep up with the adults’ pace, so they had wondered how to bring her along, but unexpectedly, James had offered to carry her on his back.
He said he had experience carrying all his own children, and orc children were naturally large-boned, so a human child like this felt like a feather to him. They had agreed to his offer, and it seemed his words were indeed true.

Days of smooth travel with almost no encounters with demonic beasts.
If there was one drawback in these peacefully flowing days-

“Are you awake?”
“…I’m okay…”
Yona, who was crawling into her sleeping bag after changing night watch shifts, looked down at Rubina who was blinking her eyes as if she had just woken up and asked.

An ant’s sound would be louder than this.
Although her voice was so small it was as if she hadn’t even had gruel to eat, Yona somehow managed to understand.
The problem was the sleeping bag.
Although Yona was on the slim side, the sleeping bag itself was so narrow that it was inevitably too tight for Yona and Rubina to sleep in it together.

Of course, Kairoc and James were out of the question, and Alec was a man after all, and somehow Yona didn’t like the idea of having Rubina sleep with him, so she had said she would sleep with Rubina herself.
It wasn’t completely impossible for one woman and one child, but it was still tight, so Rubina inevitably woke up every time they started or changed night watch shifts.

‘It’s warm…’
But it wasn’t all bad.
Although it was tight, maybe because Rubina was still a child, her body temperature was slightly higher, so it was always cozy and warm inside the sleeping bag, which was nice.
Before closing her eyes, Yona stroked Rubina’s head as she snuggled deeply into Yona’s arms.
After spending two weeks together like this, it seemed that Rubina was also becoming somewhat attached to Yona.

‘When we get to the Grand Duchy of Capatia, I’ll leave her at an orphanage anyway.’
A church orphanage would be a trustworthy place to leave her.
Yona doesn’t intend to become emotionally attached to Rubina.
In just a few more days, they’ll reach the Grand Duchy of Capatia.
There, they will part ways with Rubina.
There was no reason to become emotionally attached.
