Chapter 273: Chapter 273 Shadow Clone

The plane steadily descended, occasionally jolting slightly. David, who had been snoring moments ago, was now wide awake.

Knowing they were about to land, he was suddenly full of energy. Using Logan's shoulder as support, he leaned closer to the window, straining to get a better look at Tokyo International Airport while offering a constant stream of commentary. The lethargic vibe from earlier had completely vanished.

Logan remained expressionless as David pressed against him. Then, the plane landed, and Logan turned his gaze to the airport outside.

The runway stretched endlessly forward, clean and orderly, with various road markings flashing by.

Parked planes from different countries lined the tarmac, patiently awaiting their next flights. Workers on small electric carts zipped around below, and in the distance, a white aircraft soared into the sky.

Due to the time difference, the sky was dim. Signal lights illuminated the control tower, and some of the terminal buildings were already lit. Through the glass, Logan could see countless passengers waiting, some perched on suitcases, others clutching briefcases as they made phone calls.

The plane took a turn and gradually came to a stop. Observing the seamless operation of this bustling international hub, Logan couldn't help but admit that it was larger and busier than anything Fresno had to offer.

This was Tokyo International Airport, also known as Haneda Airport. Despite its name, it wasn't located in Tokyo's central urban area but in Ota, part of the greater Tokyo Metropolis.

The term 'Tokyo' referred to an administrative division, comparable to a state in USA, though much smaller in area.

Tokyo was the capital, while the Tokyo Metropolis encompassed the city itself along with various special wards, towns, and other municipalities. The two were not the same.

The travel plan organized by Olivia, labeled as a student-teacher international exchange program, would span seven days of study and exploration.

Most activities were confined to the Tokyo Metropolis to avoid the exhaustion of venturing too far.

When it was time to disembark, the teachers and students gathered their belongings and prepared to pass through customs.

Logan, with his backpack slung over his shoulder, followed the chattering crowd into the terminal. The interior design of the terminal was grand and spacious, filled with the noise of people from all over. Snippets of Japanese conversation floated past his ears.

Next to him, David pretended to listen intently, adopting an air of experienced sophistication. After a moment, he leaned over and whispered smugly, "Those two up fronts are newlyweds."

'Clearly on the verge of divorce…' Logan thought. Looking at David's self-satisfied expression, he nodded slightly, "You are so awesome."

Standing on the moving walkway, Logan ran his hand over the rail, marveling at the international standards.

'Even walking here could be automated.'

As they waited in line, David handed Logan a small booklet, "Here, this is our itinerary in Japan. Take a look."

Logan took it and flipped through the simple pamphlet. It outlined their schedule: starting tomorrow, they would visit two high schools in Setagaya and Nerima Wards, one public, one private.

Naturally, the itinerary also included famous spots like Shibuya and Shinjuku, showcasing Japanese culture along the way. The final stop would be in Chuo Ward, wrapping up with a visit to a university.

After reviewing the route, Logan mulled over his plans, 'The publishing company for the weekly manga magazine, as well as the Author's address, were both located in Chiyoda Ward, which is not on the itinerary.'

'Well, it doesn't really matter.'

Logan had already prepared for this. After learning his lesson from the autumn school trip and considering the potential interference of a certain overzealous classmate with fantastical notions, Logan decided to stick closely with the group.

Even if they passed near his destination, he wouldn't risk sneaking away.

This was also why he had firmly rejected Olivia's 'kind offer' on the plane.

At customs, they had to have their belongings inspected. Logan opened his backpack while David babbled about where they should go during their free time that evening.

After checking in at a nearby hotel, they'd have no further obligations for the day. David even started humming some strange song.

"Walk with me~ through Tokyo's streets~ oh oh oh..."

"This isn't really Tokyo yet." Logan interjected.

"I know." David waved his hands, his eyes suddenly lighting up, "Whoa, Logan, what's this? You brought this kind of thing?"

David's voice were loud enough to draw attention. Several people turned to look, including Diane and Olivia, who had already cleared customs. Even the customs officer paused, casting a wary glance at them!

"What do you mean, this kind of thing? Don't say stuff like that!" Logan glanced nervously around.

What David was referring to was actually just a scroll.

"Logan, I always feel that this thing looks familiar, don't you think so?" David said, picking up the scroll with its black center and red lacquered ends. His curiosity practically sparkled, "Wow, the texture's great."

"Sir, please hand over your things for inspection." The security officer said coldly.

"Huh? Oh, sure." David, startled by the officer's unexpectedly stern tone, obediently handed over the scroll.

After two seconds of blinking in confusion, he suddenly turned to Logan in realization, "I remember now! This is a sealing scroll from Naruto!"

The security officer: "..."

Logan nodded and said, "You are so awesome."

This time, he meant it. Logan genuinely admired how David's singular focus on Naruto hadn't wavered even in such a tense moment.

If there were truly a God of Anime, David had surely passed their test.'

The scroll in question was, in fact, the one Logan used to store his Ninja Tools. Still, he wasn't worried about being caught.

The airport security back in Fresno had already shown that scanners and X-rays couldn't reveal its hidden secrets.

And sure enough, after confirming that the scroll wasn't a dangerous item, the security officer breathed a sigh of relief and waved them through.

Most people had already lost interest when they saw it was just an old-fashioned scroll. Only Olivia cast a curious glance at the black-and-red scroll as it passed through security, muttering to herself, "A charlatan? It doesn't look like that..."

After retrieving their belongings, the teachers and tour guide did a headcount, and the group exited the terminal in an orderly manner.

"Our 'exchange group' doesn't even have a partner school to pick us up. I told you, this trip is just for fun!" David boasted, throwing an arm around Logan's shoulders. Logan ignored him, while Diane chuckled at their antics.

As they stepped outside, they were greeted by the crisp, chilly air. Japan at this time was even colder than Fresno. The sky had fully darkened, and a teacher nearby was marveling to their companion about how refreshing the air was abroad.

David took a few exaggerated breaths. Diane followed suit but immediately shivered, "So cold…"

The teacher tilted their head upward, seemingly trying to locate the moon, but found nothing.

If they had been traveling solo, the subway would undoubtedly have been the most budget-friendly transportation option. However, with so many people together like a tour group, a chartered bus was the obvious choice.

The group took a moment to visit the restrooms. Logan used the opportunity to step aside slightly, blending into the shadows cast by the building.

"Logan, don't wander off! We're leaving soon!" The attentive tour guide called out, having just memorized everyone's faces and noticing Logan's absence.

Standing by the bus door, Olivia quickly turned her head, her sharp eyes darting toward Logan as he emerged from the shadows...

"Got it..." Logan replied, smiling casually while cursing under his breath.

As he walked back, he noted the dwindling shadow that had concealed him. Timing it perfectly with a brief moment of total darkness caused by a streetlamp's angle, he quickly formed a hand seal.

In an instant, a shadow clone materialized and vanished into the maze of surrounding buildings.

After doing all this, Logan returned to the group with a relaxed demeanor.

"Ready to board?" Olivia asked, glancing one last time at the shadowed area Logan had just left. But she found nothing unusual.

"Of course."

Learning from the autumn field trip, Logan planned to stick with the group the entire time. At least his real body.

The shadow clone's memories would transfer to him upon dispelling, so there was no risk. Additionally, a shadow clone could discreetly handle clandestine tasks and be dissolved at a moment's notice, leaving no evidence behind.

In the Ninja World, using shadow clones for reconnaissance wasn't always the best option.

However, in modern society, it was a perfect tactic. After all, there was no one in this world who could rival Raiden Hattori at even half his strength.

After boarding the bus, Logan kept his gaze on the scenery outside the window, internally praising his foresight and preparedness during the earlier crisis.

'The operation just now reflects a superb Ninja quality. It is truly excellent… I still have enough Chakra now, so everything is under control.'

A few minutes later, outside the airport terminal on the pickup road for buses and taxis, the traffic had thinned considerably.

At a spacious four-way intersection, the asphalt streets stretched wide under the unceasing rhythm of the traffic lights.

On a rooftop nearby, Logan's shadow clone emerged from the darkness, silently watching as a tour bus's headlights disappeared into the distance.

"That guy... he left so quickly and didn't even give me money."
