Chapter 23 - Piercing Deep -1
Noah knew it too.
Perhaps the mister was more than just a close person to her. However, she wasn’t sure if it was love or affection, and it definitely couldn’t be her first love.
Noah clearly conveyed her thoughts to Taehwa’s probing eyes.
“The mister is just like family to me.”
“…”
“And first love? That’s too much.”
“What’s too much about it?”
Taehwa questioned.
Noah looked at Taehwa with even more intensity in her eyes and said firmly.
“First loves never work out.”
Noah had seen it countless times. Lovers who seemed like they would pluck the stars from the sky for each other, ending up fighting and breaking up.
That might become the case between her and the mister. There must be a reason for such sayings. They exist because they happen so commonly.
Noah was afraid.
“This is enough for now. I’m not even sure if I really love the mister.”
“…Phew… then Noah, can you answer just one thing for me?”
Noah gulped, seeing Taehwa’s serious expression.
Taehwa asked a question that was purely hypothetical, but at the same time one that might make Noah shudder.
“What do you think would happen if the mister got a girlfriend?”
“The mister?”
She had never thought about it. The mister having a girlfriend.
“I don’t think he’ll get one…?”
“No way. That mister is quite handsome. And his personality is good too.”
“…He is kind.”
“See. That alone is enough to attract people, you know?”
Thump.
Noah felt like the sky was falling. If the mister got a girlfriend, the time they spent together would naturally decrease.
If that happened…
‘Could he abandon me and leave…?’
Of course, she didn’t think the mister would do that, but there’s always a slight possibility, isn’t there?
“…Taehwa.”
“Yes?”
“What should I do… if the mister suddenly brings a beautiful woman with big breasts and introduces her as his girlfriend…”
Once the anxious thoughts began, they snowballed, and eventually, she saw herself being abandoned.
Reading her anxiety, Taehwa patted her shoulder and said.
“It’s okay. You just need to work hard from now on.”
“How?”
“By making sure the mister doesn’t even think about creating such a situation.”
Taehwa showed an evil smile. It was the expression of a child who had found something interesting. But Noah knew.
That Taehwa wouldn’t betray her again.
“Noah. Contact the mister.”
“What kind of contact?”
“Tell him to come back to our restaurant tonight.”
“…Okay. I sent him a message. What’s next?”
“We need to practice. So you don’t act awkwardly. And buy some supplies too.”
What on earth was she planning that required preparations and supplies?
Noah was about to ask that question, but was soon cut off by Taehwa.
“Prepare thoroughly. Mistakes will not be tolerated.”
“Um… okay?”
“Changing from your usual appearance. That’s the key.”
“Mmhmm.”
“So let’s hurry. You need to transform quickly.”
Transform?
That word made Noah’s doubts grow even more, but it was difficult for her to speak up.
Because Taehwa’s expression was full of confidence.
Noah felt trust in Taehwa’s appearance.
“Now! Again!”
“Oh… oh… ugh… please Taehwa! I really can’t do this!”
“No excuses! Again!”
“Oh… op… oppu… ughhh…”
“Now! With a more embarrassed expression! Like you don’t know what to do because you like him so much!”
“Uwaah… uwaaaah…!”
That trust soon turned into shame.
+++++
“Welcome. Taehwa and Miss Noah are waiting for you in the room.”
“Yes, excuse me.”
Guided by the staff, I headed to a small room. Noah and Lee Taehwa were waiting for me there.
‘So they managed to reconcile somehow.’
That was a relief.
I had said I’d leave it to Noah, but I was actually quite nervous.
Either way, Stella is a valuable ally, and it doesn’t feel right to leave Noah without any friends.
Lost in these thoughts, I found myself already in front of the room door. It was a typical Chinese-style room with a red-painted door decorated with a golden dragon.
‘This is…’
A familiar room.
Just yesterday, I had a meal here. Back then, I entered feeling intimidated by the chilly atmosphere.
But today should be better.
I just hope the atmosphere isn’t as suffocating as yesterday.
“…Let’s go in.”
I took a deep breath and opened the door to see Lee Taehwa sitting in a chair.
Noah… was nowhere to be seen.
“Welcome, mister.”
“Oh… yes. Where’s Noah?”
“Are you looking for Noah as soon as you arrive? Please sit here and have some tea first.”
Lee Taehwa sipping tea at a large table.
I wonder why she’s doing that. I’ll drink it since she’s offering, though.
I sat at the table and looked at the tea. It was fragrant green tea with tea leaves floating about.
After moistening my throat with a sip, I asked Lee Taehwa.
“Did you reconcile well with Noah?”
“Thanks to you. We plan to be close friends again now.”
“Great. It’s good to be close friends.”
Noah did well. I’m proud.
I’ll have to reward her with head pats later. While I was thinking that, Lee Taehwa gave a small smile.
“By the way, would you like some snacks?”
“If you eat snacks before dinner, you can’t eat your meal properly.”
“Really? I prepared some especially expensive snacks.”
“…But, pre-dinner snacks are also delicious.”
Lee Taehwa chuckled. Seeing that smile, I added.
“But on one condition.”
“Condition?”
“We’ll eat them together when Noah comes. We can’t eat those expensive things by ourselves, can we?”
“About that, don’t worry. Noah is…”
Lee Taehwa, showing a small smile, clapped her hands twice.
“Noah! Come in!”
“Noah?”
“Open your eyes wide and watch carefully.”
What am I supposed to watch?
It was difficult to understand, but soon I understood why she said that.
Creeeeak.
The door opened, and Noah standing there caught my eye.
“Hello, I’ve brought refreshments for you to enjoy.”
Noah in a completely different appearance from usual.
Noah had changed 180 degrees.
“Would you like some snacks, mister?”
Instead of her usual school uniform or hoodie, she wore a cheongsam with bold exposure. Her hair was somehow lengthened to her waist.
The cuteness or calmness she usually showed was nowhere to be found.
Now, a uniquely feminine beauty took its place.
A completely different appearance from usual.
I was momentarily captivated by it.
That might be why. The words came out without being filtered by my brain.
“Why… why are you staring so-”
“…You’re pretty.”
“What!?”
“…No! That…! I meant the clothes are pretty! Wow, did they lend this to you here? And how did you do your hair!?”
“Ah… yes. The clothes were lent… and the hair was made with extensions… it was quite a struggle.”
“I see… ha… haha… it suits you.”
After those words, silence fell, and Noah put down the snacks and quickly ran to Lee Taehwa.
Her face was flushed.
‘What should I do… it’s too embarrassing…’
‘Hang in there a bit more, Noah! The mister said it himself! That you’re pretty!’
‘Th-that’s truue…’
‘You can do it, Na Noah! Cheer up! You’ve almost got it! Now deliver the final blow!’
What do they mean by “got it”? It’s true I was momentarily dazed… but it was just for a moment, right?
As I listened to their whispering voices, I came to my senses and felt like laughing.
I suppressed the mischief rising within me. I wanted to say nonsense like “I’d like to take you out,” but…
‘I shouldn’t do that.’
If I did, Noah might really go overboard. I shook my head and stood up towards Noah.
Step.
Noah was flustered as I approached.
“Noah.”
“Yes… wh-what is it, mister?”
I grinned.
“You’ve worked hard. Let’s eat.”
“Ah… there’s still something left…”
I don’t know what’s left, but I wasn’t confident I could hold back if I saw it. I might say something strange.
No way.
She’s a minor and a protagonist with many important tasks ahead.
It would be problematic if she got distracted by someone like me.
As I grabbed Noah’s wrist and headed to the table, she repeated strange sounds like “Oh… uh… oppu… oppuuuuu…”
Soon, as if resigned, she sat next to me.
Lee Taehwa also had a regretful expression.
“…That’s a shame.”
“What is?”
“Nothing.”
“You boring kid.”
After lightly countering Lee Taehwa, I looked to the side and saw Noah with a still pouty expression.
This was yet another new expression.
Stray cat mode, ice witch mode, pat-pat mode.
And now, on top of that, angry mode.
With puffed-up cheeks, she throws a tantrum.
“I practiced so hard…”
“…”
“I spent hours preparing to show you…”
“…”
“It was really difficult-”
“…Fine, fine. What is it? What did you prepare that makes you act like this?”
“Alright. I’ll… show you.”
Noah, swallowing, made me stand up.
We were now facing each other.
‘Did this kid put on makeup?’
Noah’s skin, whiter than usual. Cheeks and lips, more reddened.
As the fragrance of cosmetics tickled my nose, my heart raced in a way that didn’t match my age.
I began to self-hypnotize.
Get a grip, you idiot.
‘She’s a high school student… she’s a high school student… she’s a high school student…’
She’s a high school student like a younger sister.
Noah, my precious younger sister.
After finishing this self-hypnosis, I could look at Noah as if nothing was wrong.
I was mentally prepared.
‘Bring it on.’
Now I could smile at any attack. I was ready to let it all wash over me.
“…”
Step by step.
Noah approaches.
With a flushed expression, blushing so much that I was worried she might collapse at any moment.
And then suddenly, Noah entered into my embrace.
“Haah…”
With a moist breath, she looked up at me with hot eyes.
I willingly met her gaze.
Noah uttered those words.
The words that most men would go crazy for.
“O… oppa.”
“…”
“Oppaa…”
“…”
“…Oppa?”
…Oh, God.
‘This is cheating.’
