Chapter 265: Falling Down?
After a few minutes of running around, Marionette had finally reached her objective.
Hidden behind the wall of a skyscraper, she leaned to the side, looking around the corner and at a large crystal in the centre of an open area. And around it was the enemy team, which seemed to be high on their guard.
Her eyes darted between a shield-wielding man, Jericko, and an armoured-winged individual in the sky.
She leaned away from the corner and rested her back up against the wall of the tall building.
She then thought about how to go about achieving her mission.
She gripped the handle of her revolver, raising it to her eyes before subconsciously pushing out its cylinders and gazing at the bullets within it.
'Five...'
Click.
She flicked her wrist, causing the cylinders to click back into their place.
She then raised her eyes towards the sky, gazing at the clouds that glided slowly through the artificial world. Her gaze slowly shifted towards the wall behind her.
Turning herself around, she stared at the smooth brick wall before moving her eyes up, squinting at the edge of the rooftop in the far distance above.
An interesting idea brewed inside her mind.
And...
It was something that would undoubtedly bring some form of entertainment and excitement towards a certain someone back in the Colosseum.
She pressed her hand against the bricked wall, sinking into the darkness that she had coated it. Once her figure had completely entered the dark puddle, she immediately swam up.
The darkness travelled up the vertical surface with incredible speed, moving over the shiny glass panes with smoothness as the sunlight reflected off of them.
Soon enough, after a dozen or so minutes, she was able to reach the top of the 100-metre-tall skyscraper.
She pushed herself out of the dark puddle and glanced around her surroundings.
'Windy...'
She quietly muttered inside her mind as she pushed her hair back behind her ears, which stubbornly went against her will due to the wind. She sighed, ignoring it and allowed it to flutter along with the wind.
She then began moving to the other edge of the rooftop as though she was on a casual stroll.
Upon reaching the other side, she gazed down, looking towards the crystal and measuring the distance between the skyscraper and the crystal.
'25-metres... Give or take.'
The Assassin stared at the winged individual as they made laps around the crystal from above. She followed them with her eyes before turning around and making her way back to the other side of the rooftop.
Upon reaching the other end, she turned back around. Enhancing her body with mana, she lowered her body a bit before making a mad dash.
She sped across the rooftop, quickly reaching the other side. She stepped off the edge, and right as she was about to fall, a dark platform shot out from underneath her, sticking to the edge of the roof.
Once reaching a speed and distance she was comfortable with, she leapt towards the crystal.
Or...
That was what some may think.
Hubert, the winged man in armour, who had just made another lap around the crystal, noticed a shadow looming over him that quickly grew in size.
Looking up, he noticed a falling dot in the sky. After squinting and narrowing his gaze, he noticed... That it was a person.
He raised his hand, pointing towards the falling person before yelling alarmingly:
"ENEMY!"
Jericko and the shield-wielding man, Rex, looked up towards Hubert before moving their gaze towards where he was pointing in the sky.
Their expressions turned into one of shock and surprise.
Rex, being unable to comprehend the way that the attacker was approaching them, and Jericko, becoming enveloped in a sense of ecstasy.
He opened his mouth and muttered in disbelief:
"Such a bold move... This woman is an exciting one for sure! Buff me now!"
Rex slammed his shield into the ground whilst nodding to Jericko's command. After breaking apart the concrete beneath him and sticking his Item into the ground, he raised his hands towards the sword mage.
Jericko, feeling something about him changed, hopped in the spot, feeling his movement quickening and the rate at which he fell hasten.
This was the Element of Speed. Another element that fell under the unorthodox category.
He then flashed his arms out to the sides, summoning an array of swords of varying lengths and sizes. Once the number of blades reached a couple of dozen, he fired them like missiles.
They travelled around Hubert and aimed directly at the black-haired woman, who stared at the incoming blades with cold indifference behind her eyes.
She twisted her body around in the air, preparing herself.
She caused the outline of her body to radiate a dark gaseous substance as her body began to turn a darker kind of shade.
The first sword that reached her pierced through her abdomen, passing through without a drop of blood and causing a gaseous hole to open up around her gut.
Then, more of this treatment followed.
THWIP! SWOOSH! THWIP!
The swords sliced through the air at a rapid rate, not even allowing them to regroup. This could be said for Marionette as well, as her body was torn apart.
The stream of swords sliced through her body without an ounce of mercy, and as soon as she came out of it, she didn't look well.
Her entire torso was riddled with holes, hollow slits, and lethal cuts. Her arms were barely hanging on by a thread, and the entire right of her face was missing.
Her body leaked a dark gaseous substance that, in mere moments, had regenerated her missing limbs and injured body.
Hubert, who was still hovering in the air, brandished his spear and shot towards the woman.
He reasoned that Marionette was definitely out of mana by now. She had just survived a stream of swords, after all. That should've depleted her mana down to nothing.
Unfortunately for him, that was false.
Their bodies slammed into each other, his spear piercing through her stomach. His eyes glinted as he saw something leak out from the area he had stabbed through.
But...
It wasn't what he had expected to see. It wasn't blood, but just... Darkness.
He raised then his head, intending to get a good look at the attacker's face, when suddenly...
"Ugh...!"
Something snaked towards his neck that was hidden behind a curtain of chainmall. He felt it wrap around his neck with a vice-like grip, suffocating him.
