Chapter 189: Beneath the Final Gate
By the time they reached the lowest chamber, the air no longer carried dust.
It carried memory.
The tunnels had given way to smooth, black stone. Carved arches taller than towers curved overhead, each inscribed with runes in a forgotten tongue—words once used to chain a Sovereign. Pale light bled from the ceiling in veins, illuminating the gate that sealed the innermost sanctum.
They had walked for nearly eight hours.
Not idly.
Isaac had cleared entire hallways of spiritual constructs, cursed sentinels, and soulbound wraiths—many of which hadn't seen the surface in centuries. Their forms were twisted but intricate, laced with remnants of old magic.
None had lasted more than seconds.
Some had been destroyed mid-monologue.
Asmodeus had long since stopped being surprised. She walked beside him in silence, every once in a while shaking her head at the absurd numbers his system kept reporting.
Now, they stood before the gate.
It was massive—ten meters high, reinforced with rings of crimson gold and diamond-fused obsidian. But it wasn't just a door.
It watched them.
"I feel it," Asmodeus said, eyes narrowed. "He's still dormant. But the seal is thinning. Something inside is aware again."
Isaac nodded. Then opened his status.
The system displayed everything in crisp, clean order:

Isaac exhaled softly.
"Over 10,000 in Intelligence now," he muttered. "I think I could fry half the planet with a thought if I wanted to."
Asmodeus side-eyed him. "Let's not test that."
He grinned. "No promises."
She reached out, brushing her fingers against the edge of the sealed gate. Energy sparked, then recoiled. Whatever lay inside—whoever it once was—had begun to stir.
"He knows," she said. "Not that we're here. But that the outer seals have weakened."
Isaac's gaze sharpened.
"Then let's make sure he never opens this gate."
As the chamber grew silent again, the faintest tremor ran through the stone under their feet.
Something was shifting.
Soon.
