Chapter 43: MPE23

After exploring and taking pictures of the ruined city, Edros and Akimitsu felt it was safe enough for Aster to use the crystal orb to determine where they should head next.

No creatures lived in the city, which was a little surprising since the radiation levels were low, and trees and plants were abundant. They even saw weird fruits growing by the river, but they were unsure if they were poisonous, so they didn't touch it.

Edros picked Aster up and helped him get off of the mecha. He gently placed Aster on the ground. "Do you feel okay?"

Aster nodded while holding the box in his hands.

To be honest, he wasn't sure how this crystal orb worked. It didn't seem to follow any magnetism anchoring points like most compasses. So, how was it pointing even when they were on planets with different magnetic fields?

"What's wrong?" Edros thought something had happened to him, like with Ellery, who told him about how dazed he felt when he used the orb for the first time.

"How does this work?" Aster tilted his head in confusion. "Each planet has a different magnetic field, right? So how does it know where to point?"

Everyone knew that Aster was curious and liked to ask questions, so no one felt it was annoying. It was a bit endearing that he always strove for knowledge.

Unfortunately, no one understood how this crystal orb worked either. Emperor Eliane told them that this crystal orb would ignore details like that because it would always accurately point in the direction they needed to go.

"I'm sorry, Aster, I don't know either."

"That's okay; I was just thinking about it. Maybe I can ask the Beast God, if we can meet them."

Even though he wanted to know, it didn't stop him from doing what he needed to do. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath before pouring some of his spiritual energy into the orb.

Just like Ellery, he felt a weird sensation of being drawn in and his spiritual power being sucked out of him. He did his best to control the output, but the crystal ball was greedy and wanted more and more.

When he was down to the last 10% of his spiritual energy, it finally stopped, and a bright light gushed out of it. Once it settled down, a slightly more opaque arrow was pointing slightly Northwest.

Seeing this, Edros mapped out the coordinates relative to where they were standing on this planet and then circled an area of planets in this line of direction. It was still a large number of planets, but with the color of the arrow, they knew they were going in the right direction.

When Edros was done, Aster put away the crystal orb, but he was pale and tired.

"Do you want to go rest?" Edros was used to Aster retreating when he was spiritually tired.

"It's okay; I can stay out a little longer."

Even though he was fatigued, Aster wanted to make it back to the spacecraft - just like Ellery had the previous time. Plus, he wanted to spend a little more time with Edros, who was always excited to see him.

Edros didn't know Aster's true thoughts, but he did feel relieved to know that Aster would stick around a little longer.

Unlike Ellery, Aster did not have a lot of energy, so he couldn't be with Aster as often as Akimitsu and Ellery could be together. He felt a bit jealous but also grateful for the times that Aster wanted to be by his side.

"Okay, then, when you can't hold on, let me know."

"I understand."

Edros picked Aster up and swiftly went back into his mecha. He gently placed Aster down and decided to find a nice rock for Aster to take home before leaving the planet. Ellery did it last time, so he wanted to do it this time!

Edros and Akimitsu left the ruined city and went to find rocks for Aster. The two of them each picked one; one wanted to thank him for the expensive Sylv crystal from before, and the other wanted to give Aster pretty stones from every planet they visited!

Akimitsu picked out a green and blue stone found by the river, while Edros chose a black and white stone that was a bit sharp. Overall, Aster was pleased with their selection and couldn't wait to keep adding to his collection. He also made sure to document where they got each stone so he could remember each planet they went to.

To him, every stone and rock they picked up were memories that Aster wanted to cherish and remember.

Once they were done on planet MPE12, they went to a nearby resource planet before going to the next planet, MPE23, a planet mostly covered in water.

An aquatic race lived on this planet but did not have a lot of contact with the rest of the galaxy. It was only in the past century that merchants came to this planet. The aquatic race, whose skin was dark blue, gills on their necks, and fins on the side of their heads, were friendly and lively, welcoming anyone who came to their planet with open arms.

Their society was not influenced by the Zervaria Imperial family, but they had their own hierarchical system that was protected under the Allies Between Races Act. The Matriarchal Monarch was in contact with the governors of other planets nearby, facilitating trade for the delicacies found in their oceans.

It was the first time the First Fleet had landed on MPE23, but the aquatic people welcomed them with open arms.

The monarch greeted Edros, Akimitsu, and Ellery. Even though she didn't know their identities all that well, she knew they were high-ranking people in the Zervaria Empire.

"Enjoy your stay on our beautiful planet!" The monarch said with a bit of an accent. When she talked, bubbles would occasionally leave her mouth. "If you like our planet, please recommend it to your friends and family."

It sounded like she was giving Ellery, Akimitsu, and Edros a business pitch for her tourism company.

Since this planet was trying to get into the tourism industry, they decided to make the most of their time and explore some famous sights before activating the crystal orb once more.

They decided to go to three different sites that took two days to go through.

The first place was in the ocean, and could only be accessed by boat. This was where the trio decided to stay for the night because of how beautiful it was.

This floating castle was like the tip of the iceberg. Once the guests went inside the castle, they would find that there were more places to explore underwater. Guests were able to book rooms that overlooked the ocean floor. Around this castle was a large coral reef that housed thousands of fish and other sea creatures, making it a must-see for tourists from afar.

Ellery and Akimitsu, the extroverted duo, took hundreds of pictures and posted them all over their social media for their many followers and friends to see. They also made sure to tag the planet and location so people would know about the existence of planet MPE23.

The second place they went to was a restaurant by a hot spring. This restaurant served fish that could withstand the high temperature of the springs. When cooked in soups, the meat melts like butter when it hits their mouths.

The hot springs were too hot, so they couldn't soak in it. It was still beautiful to see the many pools of water with colorful fish swimming and jumping from pool to pool. These fish flew elegantly through the air, seeming to never settle in one pool.

Lastly, they arrived at the largest waterfall on the entire planet. Since they had arrived in the afternoon, they decided to stay there until the sunset. As it was dangerous, they could not get too close to the edge of the cliff. The viewing platform, however, lets them see the waterfall from a distance. As they got closer, they tried to see the bottom of the waterfall, but it was so tall they could not see anything but the fizzling bubble created by the water.

After taking many pictures, Ellery finally felt it was time for them to end their mini vacation.

"In the future, I hope we can come back here and stay for a while." Akimitsu sighed while taking his last picture and posting it on his timeline.

"I agree," Ellery said while holding onto the box with the crystal ball. "We had to rush this mini-vacation, so there were a ton of places I wanted to go to but couldn't."

Edros thought it was a good idea. "When Aster gets his own body, we should go to different planets together when we have time."

Aster, who was in awe of the different places they went to, immediately agreed, though only Ellery could hear him.

"Then, when Aster gets his own body, we can go here before going back to the Imperial Star. We should also let Orin and Darya explore this planet too…" Even if there was a chance that the Beast God could not help them separate, Ellery remained hopeful that Aster would be able to walk side by side with him.
