Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Defeating Lily, Battle with Krabby
"You sure have a lot to say, don't you…"
With that one sentence, Ethan left a deep impression on the Cerulean City's Three Beautiful Sisters!
Daisy smiled faintly: "Both being Trainers and water ballet performers are our main professions. Alright, please come this way."
Led by the three sisters, Ethan followed them along a passage to the edge of the swimming pool. By now, the audience who had come to watch the performance had all left, ensuring no one would disturb them.
Just then, as the other two sisters threw several floating platforms into the pool, this simple action completed the battle arena. One could only say it was quite perfunctory…
But then again… Ethan's gaze swept back and forth across the floating platforms several times, not daring to be careless. After all, it was a Water-type Gym, surrounded by water, and he didn't have any Water-type Pokémon. Therefore, the range of movement available to his Pokémon was limited, so every step required careful consideration.
"Alright," Lily clapped her hands, smiling, "Now we can battle!"
Without another word, Ethan walked to the Trainer's command area on the other side, facing the sisters across the water. Looking at him from a distance, Daisy's voice carried over.
"The battle rules here are simple. Each of us three will use one Pokémon. As long as you defeat all of us, your challenge will be successful!"
Violet crossed her arms, a playful look on her face: "So, who do you want to challenge first?"
It could be said that Ethan's previous remark had ignited a bit of fighting spirit in them! Ethan's gaze swept over their faces one by one, but he couldn't discern anything.
"Anyone is fine. You decide."
"Quite the bold tone," said Lily, the youngest of the sisters. She volunteered, stepping forward and taking a Poké Ball from her pocket. "In that case, let me be the first to face you! Come on out, Goldeen!"
She opened the Poké Ball, and with a flash of blue light, a white fish with a single horn on its head was released into the pool.
Information about it flashed through Ethan's mind. He remembered it as a pure Water-type Pokémon, with highly developed dorsal and caudal fins, able to swim at 5 knots. Because its caudal fin elegantly swayed like a dress, it was also known as the "Water Queen"!
Glancing down at his feet, Ethan sent out his first Pokémon.
"Eevee, I choose you!"
Hearing Ethan's command, Eevee let out an excited cry, then leaped directly from the shore onto a floating platform!
In terms of types, there was no direct type advantage or disadvantage between the two Pokémon. Therefore, to win, it would depend on whose strength was superior. However, due to the advantageous terrain, it wouldn't be easy for Eevee to defeat Goldeen. It would depend on Eevee's performance and Ethan's commands!
Daisy, the eldest sister, acted as the referee. Seeing both Pokémon ready, she announced loudly: "Cerulean Gym Challenge, begin!"
As her voice fell, Lily also spoke.
"Goldeen, use Peck!"
With Lily's command, the battle officially began! Goldeen dove underwater, disappearing from sight. A few seconds later, as ripples spread, Goldeen suddenly sprang from the water, as if flying, heading straight for Eevee! Its speed was indeed very fast!
Ethan's gaze narrowed. He calmly ordered, "Eevee, dodge it!"
Relying on its excellent agility, Eevee sidestepped just before Goldeen struck, easily avoiding the attack. Seeing this, Ethan continued to command, "Use Tackle!"
In the instant the two Pokémon's bodies crossed paths, Eevee leaped into the air, slamming hard into Goldeen's body. Unfortunately, just as Eevee was about to hit Goldeen, Goldeen also twisted its body, dodging the attack, then plunged into the water with a splash, disappearing from sight.
In their first exchange, neither gained an advantage. But this made Lily realize that the man opposite her wouldn't be easy to deal with! Eevee landed steadily on another floating platform, but because of Goldeen's recent splash, some water landed on its body, making it damp. It shook its fur, but still couldn't shake off all the water.
Taking everything in, Lily smiled, "Excellent! Goldeen, keep doing that and force it into the water!"
Goldeen used the same tactic again, using Peck on Eevee. This time, because of the added weight of the water on its body, Eevee's speed was significantly affected. Facing Goldeen's second attack, Eevee barely managed to dodge it, nearly being grazed.
Seeing this, Ethan breathed a sigh of relief, while also feeling the danger for Eevee. After all, given Eevee's current strength, if it were actually hit and accidentally fell into the water, the situation would be extremely disadvantageous.
It seemed he needed to find a way… Thinking this, Ethan's gaze shifted, scanning back and forth across the floating platforms. Especially seeing that two of the platforms had collided, a plan slowly formed in his mind.
"Eevee, jump onto that floating platform over there!"
Eevee turned its head to look at Ethan. Though confused, it obeyed the command and jumped. Seeing this, Lily naturally didn't understand what he was trying to do, but she still smiled, "No matter what you do now, it's useless! Goldeen, use Peck!"
Goldeen leaped out of the water again, charging at Eevee with the horn on its head.
"Eevee, retreat!" Ethan's voice rang out at that moment.
Hearing his command, Eevee couldn't help but retreat a few steps, standing at the other end of the floating platform. And it was this retreat that shifted all its weight to that side, causing the platform to tilt upwards! Just then, Goldeen came crashing in, striking the raised platform! Even worse, the sharp horn on its head actually got stuck in the platform, leaving its entire body suspended in mid-air!
"What!?" Lily was aghast, and her two sisters' eyes widened as well. They never expected such a maneuver!
Ethan chuckled softly. A fish out of water, no matter how boastful it was before, ultimately faced a dead end. Without water, and constrained on the platform, what could Goldeen do?
"Eevee, finish it!"
Hearing Ethan's voice, Lily's heart instantly tensed, and she shouted at Goldeen, "Goldeen, quickly get back into the water!" However, Goldeen twisted its body several times, but no matter how it tried, that sharp horn simply wouldn't come out!
"Darn it," Lily exclaimed as Eevee approached, "Goldeen, use Supersonic!"
A visible sound wave emanated from Goldeen's mouth. However, because its back was turned to Eevee, although the Supersonic did hit it, causing Eevee to experience brief confusion, the situation didn't change once Eevee recovered.
"It's over."
As if to confirm Ethan's words, with Eevee's powerful Tackle, Goldeen completely lost the ability to battle.
"You're good…" Lily sighed helplessly, returned Goldeen to its Poké Ball, and silently stepped aside. As she withdrew, Violet took her place and walked to the Trainer's command area.
"You've got some moves," she said, looking at Ethan. She took out her Poké Ball and released her Pokémon. "But the next Pokémon won't be easy to deal with. Come on out, Krabby!"
As her voice fell, the next second, a Pokémon resembling a crab appeared in the water. At first glance, its pair of large claws held high were especially eye-catching! But upon closer inspection, its red and white body, with a pair of dull eyes, made it seem a bit silly and vacant, not very intelligent.
Knowing it well, Ethan's mind flashed with its data. As a River Crab Pokémon, Krabby's large claws were undoubtedly its formidable weapons! However, during attacks, those claws would occasionally fall off, though new ones would quickly grow back. And if danger approached, it would also spit out foam from its mouth to cover its entire body, making itself appear larger.
While it reduces mobility, it strengthens close combat…
After a moment of thought, Ethan recalled Eevee. "Eevee, come back. You did great."
Once Eevee was back by his side, Ethan first stroked its forehead in approval, then took out Bulbasaur's Poké Ball.
"Next up is you, Bulbasaur." As he opened it, with a flash of blue light, his Bulbasaur appeared on the floating platform.
"Bulba, bulba!"
Upon appearing, Bulbasaur intently stared at the giant Krabby in the water, its fighting spirit high! In terms of type, Grass-type Bulbasaur undoubtedly held a type advantage against Water-type Krabby.
But the same problem remained. On this water-filled arena, the movement space was severely restricted. How to avoid falling into the water would be the key factor in securing victory!
The battle against the Cerulean Gym Leaders is off to a strategic start for Ethan! He managed to defeat Goldeen by cleverly using the floating platforms. Now he's facing Krabby, a powerful Water-type. Will Bulbasaur be able to maintain its advantage and stay out of the water?
