"Next, are we going to dive into the water?" Ash asked.
Brock gently stirred the seawater with his hand, worriedly saying, "But if we dive down and swim for a long time, only to find a dead end or a gate we can't open, then we'll be in trouble."
"In a situation like this, of course, we rely on Pokémon!" Misty said, taking out her Poké Ball and releasing a Goldeen into the water. "Goldeen, go down and check the situation. Find a route for us to escape!"
Goldeen nodded, submerged itself, and vanished in an instant. However, a long time passed, and it didn't return.
"Still no luck?"
Misty frowned. Just as she was about to go down and check the situation herself, the water surface suddenly rippled. After a while, as the water parted, what emerged first was a disheveled, ghastly human head!
Being fully focused, everyone was startled. Misty screamed and hid behind Ethan, clutching his clothes and trembling.
Compared to girls, Ethan was bolder. He forced himself to remain calm. As the head continued to surface, he realized it was actually Team Rocket's trio, stacked on top of each other, being pushed up from the water by Goldeen.
"Don't be afraid, everyone. It's Team Rocket."
Ethan patted Misty's shoulder. Only when Misty clearly saw it was indeed Team Rocket's trio did she breathe a sigh of relief.
"What the heck! How are they in the water?"
Jessie, James, and Meowth lay on the ground, spitting out seawater. They had been on the verge of death, eyes rolling back, but upon hearing Misty's voice, they instantly revived and all sprang up.
Jessie shouted, "How unlucky to run into you guys again!?"
Immediately, both sides were at daggers drawn, pulling out their Poké Balls. Jessie and James released Arbok and Koffing, while Ash and Brock released Squirtle and Geodude.
"Hey, hey!" Misty reached out, holding her hands between them, urgently trying to prevent the situation from escalating. "You all need to get this straight! My Goldeen just saved you, and look around! This isn't the time to fight! If we don't find a way to escape soon, we'll all die here!"
Despite her words, Ash, Brock, and the Team Rocket trio still glared fiercely at each other, neither willing to back down.
Just then, James suddenly noticed Ethan standing aside. He pointed at him, surprised. "Ah! It's you! Thank you so much for before! Otherwise, I would have been tricked by that Magikarp seller!"
"Idiot! We're the bad guys! Why are you thanking someone else!" Jessie sharply hit James on the head, then asked, puzzled, "But speaking of which, who is he?"
James's face flushed slightly. He didn't dare to tell the truth. If Jessie found out he almost spent both their salaries to buy a Magikarp that only flopped around, she'd surely kill him herself.
Ethan interjected, "Everyone, please stop. Misty is right; we truly don't have much time!"
With Ethan intervening, both sides finally recalled their Pokémon. Through questioning, Ethan and the others learned that Team Rocket's duo and Meowth hadn't managed to leave the S.S. Anne in time either. After the cruise ship capsized, in their haste to escape, they had broken through the ship's hull, causing seawater to surge into the cabin and sweep them into the current. If Goldeen hadn't accidentally passed by, the trio would probably have already become aquatic ghosts.
"Hmph, fine then," Jessie said, hands on hips, haughtily. "But don't get too smug! This is just a temporary truce. It doesn't mean we'll let you off the hook in the future!"
"I say…" Ethan asked tentatively, "You don't have any Water-type Pokémon, do you? We're going to be leaving through the sea soon. Is it really okay for you to be so haughty?"
"This…"
The Team Rocket trio's faces changed. They seemed to have just realized the problem, and their attitudes instantly did a 180-degree turn. They all bowed and apologized.
"Ah! We're sorry! We were wrong!"
Ethan shook his head, smiling. No matter how tense the atmosphere, with them around, it always seemed to turn comical and joyful.
With Team Rocket resolved for now, they could finally discuss their strategy in peace. Brock stroked his chin, asking, "Now, how exactly do we get out of here?"
"Leave it to me!" Misty puffed out her chest. "I used to make models of the S.S. Anne, so I know its structure very well. Since the path below is blocked, we'll have to go upwards! I remember the bottom of the ship, below the engine room, is quite thin. If we make a hole there, we can escape!"
Ash and the others nodded in agreement, but only Ethan raised an objection.
"We can't make a hole in the ship's bottom!"
"Huh?" Misty asked, puzzled. "Why not?"
Ethan explained, "If we break through the ship's bottom, the water will rush down from above, and the water pressure will be immense. It will be very difficult to swim against the current. And once the cabin is breached, the air pressure will become unbalanced, and the seawater will quickly fill the entire cruise ship. If we don't manage to escape smoothly through the bottom, we definitely won't have enough time to try other methods."
Misty suddenly understood. "I see. So, do you have a plan?"
Ethan continued, "Since the area below is already completely submerged in seawater, I suggest we have the Water-type Pokémon break through any part of the ship's wall in that submerged section and lead us out! That way, the water pressure we face will certainly be much lower!"
"But in that case…" Misty hesitated, "it will definitely take more time than leaving from above. I'm worried we can't hold our breath that long."
"Don't worry about that. I glanced out the window earlier. Although this ship sank, the terrain of this sea area is relatively high. We're actually not too far from the surface."
Saying this, Ethan pointed to the seawater at their feet.
"And look, what's that!"
Everyone looked down to see, in the direction Ethan was pointing, several plastic water bottles floating! These bottles, filled with air after their contents were drunk, had somehow drifted there!
Ethan said, "If we hold these bottles in our mouths, even one extra breath will surely help us last a few more minutes than usual. Plus, the water here isn't deep, so there's no need to worry about them being crushed by the water pressure!"
If it had been anyone else proposing this alternative, Misty might have stuck to her own opinion, but when Ethan spoke, she became his strongest supporter. As for the others, they looked at each other, unable to make up their minds. However, since Misty supported Ethan, there was nothing more for them to argue about.
"Alright then, let's do it that way!"
Ethan's knowledge and strategic thinking are once again saving the day! He's convinced the group, including a now-cooperative Team Rocket trio, to follow his plan for escaping the sunken S.S. Anne, utilizing plastic bottles for extra air.
Do you think their escape plan will go smoothly, or will there be more challenges waiting for them in the depths of the ocean?
