I Remember Nothing, But I Have Four Husbands

Chapter 22: Chapter 2.7

"You ok? D'you need to rest?"

Sunset dyed the land with its beautiful colors. The sound of chirping bugs filled the dirt road, giving the scenery a mysterious feeling. The breeze made the tree leaves rustle, creating a symphony of rustic sounds, even carrying the smell of grass. Ethan's gentle tone of voice softly caressed Isabelle's ears with its worried hue.

However, she had no time to appreciate any of that because she was dying.

Dying!

She had only been carrying the small bag of sugar, but after one hour of walking, she wanted to throw it away to not add to the dead weight that was her own self. Ethan looked as fresh as lettuce carrying the bag of salt on one shoulder, the bag of flour and the box with the saplings on the other shoulder, using his hand to balance the box, while his other hand carried the box with the embroidery tools and fabric.

There was an extreme difference between the two that Isabelle could not help but notice. Was she too lazy to exercise before becoming an amnesiac? How else could she explain her weak and frail constitution that could not stand a walk on flat land?

Flat land!

"Just a little bit." Isabelle panted, barely able to voice out her reply as breathless as she was, and then ungracefully sat on the ground without a care of the world.

"Don't be like this. At least look for a rock to sit on. You're dirtying your clothes." He said while looking around, but was unable to find a rock for her. He could only look back at Isabelle with a complicated expression.

"It is ok. I just need to rest a bit to continue." Isabelle reassured him. Looking up at him, the golden hues of the sunset made him look like a mighty warrior coming from battle and ready to impr… That was not the time to be fantasizing! The sunset meant it was already late! Night was soon going to fall on them! "At this pace, we will arrive home when it is totally dark." She sighed frustrated.

"With me here, it doesn't matter if we arrive late." Ethan comforted her. And he was right. If she was alone, she would definitely not dare to walk at night in such a desolate road. However, with Ethan by her side, she was safer. And if both encountered a really dangerous situation on the road, then they could only blame their bad luck.

Anyway, Ethan's words did reassure her, so she started to joke around. "My mighty protector, I will be counting on you!" She cheered happily.

Such a handsome protector, too!

Well, it was no time to be joking either, she inwardly thought while standing up so they could hit the road again.

As she took a deep breath to encourage herself to do the rest of the way in one go, Ethan spoke up. "Isabelle, yer mighty protector needs to be paid before workin'." She stood there, dumbfounded, until she realized what he meant.

This cunning and lecherous fox!

She had enough with the hooligan back home, and she also had to deal with the sly fox on the road. Why were each and every one of them trying to take advantage of her!? Oh, well, she could not complain because at the minimum opportunity she had of being alone with one of them, she flirted with them.

Either way, she actually did not mind spoiling the guys a bit. If they were going to spend the rest of their lives together, a bit of honey for their hearts and carnal incentive for their bodies was important to nurture a relationship.

So, she sashayed to where he stood and almost plastered herself to him. She even softly, like a caress, pressed her breasts on his abdomen.

"What does this mighty protector need from this humble woman in exchange of his services?" Leaning further, Isabelle completely stamped her front assets onto him and rubbed a bit. She heard his breath hitch, and felt his heart pound really fast. "I do not have much to offer, so would a kiss be enough for you?" With a pitiful expression, she rubbed a bit more.

"Yes." He hoarsely replied. Gosh, she was going to be the death of him one day!

As Isabelle pushed herself up, Ethan met her halfway as he leaned down. Their lips locked in an arousing and explosive kiss that would have earned them a severe scolding for offending public morals if anyone passing by saw them.

They did not even hold back in the use of tongue and teeth, or bothered to silence the sounds that came out from their mouths. Furthermore, since they could not use their hands to touch the other as they had them occupied with their purchases, they barely satisfied themselves by pressing their bodies even closer.

At some point, both thought of leaving the road and hide behind some bushes to go all the way. But someone did not let them.

"Told ya they were fine, Lucas." Joseph's voice came as the deterrence they needed before crossing that line.

Isabelle stiffened and then quickly took a step back. Turning around, she found the second and third brother standing a few steps away from them. Neither Ethan not Isabelle heard them arrive! Though, that was obvious, with how busy they were.

"They're just havin' a date while sharin' a bit of saliva on the way." The hooligan salaciously looked at the two, seeming very much willing to join in the fun.

For a moment, Isabelle felt embarrassed to be found in such a compromising position by the other brothers. It also reminded her that they were in a public road. What if someone else found them? That would be worth dying out of mortification.

"If ya knew, ye should've just stayed in the house." Ethan drawled, completely unbothered at being found out, rather he was annoyed that his brothers had appeared.

Do not say that, you! Are you not aware of what would have happened if nobody stopped us?!

Joseph harrumphed and ignored his shameless brother. "We didn't come for ya. Ya could get lost for all I care. We came fer Isabelle. Such a soft bun, what strength does she have in those legs of hers?"

Hey! Do not involve me in your argument with your brother! And do not call me a soft bun!

Though, Isabelle had to accept that her plump and soft body looked like a bun … especially with the brothers trying to eat it.

She wanted to stay angry at Joseph, but he did a gesture that she never thought he would be able to do. She really needed to stop judging based on first impressions.

"Thank you." Her voice came out softly as he took the bag she was carrying. His eyes squinted in happiness, making her lower her head, flustered. Suddenly, he used a finger to lift her face and his thumb to swipe the corner of her mouth. "What?" Isabelle asked, puzzled.

"Ye had a bit o' drool." He said very seriously. She covered her mouth in dismay, quickly cleaning it from any other residue left. Not a second later, she halted her actions when she heard Joseph's loud laugh.

"Was it a lie?!" Isabelle raged.

This damn hooligan!

"'course, it was." Joseph replied. "If you wanna be kissed to the point of droolin', then come lookin' for me." He even had the nerve to wink! Isabelle felt a bit dizzy from the blood rushing to her head. Either from blushing or out of rage. Even if she took on his offer later on for a good snogging, he did not have to say it in front of Ethan and Lucas!

Her indignation was greatly mollified when Lucas slapped Joseph's head in retaliation for being too straightforward. She even snickered seeing the hooligan's vexed expression when Ethan gave him the other bags he had been carrying. Isabelle, though, would have done without the bear-like brother suddenly carrying her like a princess.

His actions were so abrupt that Isabelle had no time to reject him before she found herself in his arms. "I can walk." Isabelle complained with no heat in her voice, her arms subconsciously looping around his neck.

She was totally ignored by the three brothers who had tacitly come to the decision that the situation was how it should be: two brothers carrying their purchases while the third one carried her. Even if Isabelle was embarrassed, she could not deny how happy she was from the brothers' gestures.

She felt truly cherished.

Isabelle was so lost in her own thoughts that she did not pay attention to the whispering group of people they encountered at the entrance of the village right before the sun completely set in the horizon. The brothers nodded at them in greeting but did not stop to make small talk.

"Hey, who's that? Never seen 'er here before!" A middle-aged lady asked still staring at the far away men and woman.

"Ain't those the Edris brothers? The ones livin' in the outskirts?" A man with thinning hair wondered.

"They are! My Husband often walks to Town together with the oldest brother. But I ain't sure 'bout the woman. D'you think that maybe she's the Wife from one of them? From the one carryin' her, maybe?" A young woman replied and began gossiping.

"They're so poor, from where would they be able ta get the money ta get a Wife?" An aged lady quickly dispelled that idea. She knew what conditions the brothers lived in and their constant failed relationships. They were the constant talk of the village. So, everybody was sure that no sane woman would want to go to that house to suffer!

"Unless that woman's of dubious reputation." The man with thinning hair added. "You saw how she was held in public? Fo' shame!"

"However, they looked as if 'twas a normal thing to do. I still think she might be the Wife of one of 'em." The young lady retorted.

"It's been a while. The eldest's almost thirty, so to finally find a Wife's their blessing." The middle-aged lady said. She was acquaintances with the brothers' mother who died in a rather sad way; so, she held a bit of pity for them. Deep down, she wanted for them to have a good life.

"What blessing! The family's so destitute. I'm afraid that young lady's just gonna suffer with those brothers. With their conditions, I won't be surprised if they share that woman between themselves much like those Benson brothers from Maple Leaf Village!" The aged lady sharply reminded those around her the reality of those brothers.

Although the others did not say anything, it was obvious they also thought the old lady was right. Though, the middle-aged lady and young lady thought it was good for the brothers to have someone by their side even if the woman had a dubious background. Meanwhile, the man with thinning hair simply did not care.

Despite having different opinions, they equally shared the gossip with any person they met on their way back home. Soon, the whole village knew about the new addition to the Edris family.
