I put a leash on Catastrophe

Chapter 18

The translator, whose expression improved as if he felt relieved, asked:

“Are you interested?”

The pharaoh didn’t answer the question. Rather, he wasn’t even looking in their direction, as if he hadn’t heard at all.

Zhi-wu was about to intervene, seeing the girl pout at his rudeness, when suddenly…

“…Fast.”

The pharaoh muttered, looking outside. Reacting to his words, Zhi-wu reflexively looked at the panoramic window in the lobby, but all he saw were passersby.

Zhi-wu was about to ask what he meant when…

“Aaaaaah!”

A scream rang out. Everyone except Martin and the pharaoh looked outside in shock, but due to the large number of passersby, it was difficult to immediately understand what had happened.

The girl was saying something to her translator, tugging at his sleeve, but he didn’t understand the situation either and just shook his head.

‘Maybe it’s nothing serious.’

Perhaps some celebrity appeared, and people screamed in delight, or just a passing madman screamed because he felt like it.

But the pharaoh’s reaction worried Zhi-wu. He wanted to ask him, but he seemed completely uninterested in the reactions of those around him, so he probably wouldn’t answer even if asked.

“Let’s go outside…”

When Zhi-wu started speaking and tried to leave the lobby, someone grabbed his wrist firmly. It was Martin.

“Dangerous.”

“Dangerous?”

Zhi-wu, not understanding, tried to pull his hand away, but Martin didn’t let go of his wrist. Meanwhile, the screams were getting closer, and commotion began outside, then people burst into the building screaming.

“Aaaaaah!”

“What is it! What is that!”

People rushed in panic through the entrance. The previously calm lobby instantly turned into chaos, and Zhi-wu and company, not understanding the situation, were forced to press against the wall under the pressure of incoming people.

It seemed that the Black Market security only now noticed the situation, and people who looked like guards ran into the lobby.

“You can’t behave like this here.”

“Get out!”

They tried to drive out the intruders, but the frightened and excited people didn’t listen to the guards. Instead, they began to attack the guards who were trying to drive them out.

“Shut up! You want us to go outside when that’s happening out there?”

“You go out yourself!”

“Hey?”

One of the guards was grabbed by the collar and dragged. The remaining guard, in confusion, tried to lead clients who looked like Zhi-wu and the girl with company inside, but this again caused discontent among the people.

“Us too! Let us in too!”

“Save us!”

“Don’t come closer!”

The guard shouted at the people who were rushing towards him in panic, but it was useless.

Zhi-wu panicked, thinking he might be crushed in the crowd, when suddenly he was surprised. His body suddenly rose up as if pulled out of the ground.

“Ah!”

The culprit was Martin. He lifted Zhi-wu, taking him under the armpits, and sat him on his shoulders. People looked at Martin, who was pushing away approaching people as if protecting Zhi-wu from the crowd, but as soon as they met his gaze, they immediately lowered their eyes.

They couldn’t do anything as they felt pressure from just his gaze alone.

“…What is that?”

Zhi-wu, whose view was now higher than other people’s, found it much more convenient to observe what was happening outside. Among the fleeing people, he saw something like a huge mass moving quickly.

He wondered what it could be when one of these masses suddenly lunged at the glass window of the lobby.

Bang!

“Aaaaaah!”

When the panoramic glass shattered, people nearby screamed. Judging by the visible red spots, it seemed some were cut by the shards.

As people pressed even closer together, Zhi-wu could see what the mass that burst through the window was.

“Is that… a rat?”

It was a huge rat. Zhi-wu had seen nutrias the size of a medium dog in the news, but this creature seemed even larger. If not for the long snout and huge front teeth, it could have been mistaken for a large dog.

“Aaa!”

The creature lunged at a person floundering on the glass shards. Seeing the attacked person, people around paled and recoiled from him as if running away.

Zhi-wu, frightened, wanted to help him, but due to the crowd of people, it was impossible. Although with Martin’s strength, it wouldn’t be difficult to break through these people…

‘We won’t make it in time.’

Zhi-wu looked around in panic for the pharaoh. He wanted to ask him for help, but couldn’t find him anywhere.

While he was looking around for the disappeared pharaoh, noise rose again. More giant rats burst through the broken window.

“Aaa!”

“Save us!”

People attacked by giant rats screamed. When Zhi-wu thought he himself needed to do something and tried to get off Martin’s shoulders…

Bang!

Kiii!

Along with a deafening sound, one of the giant rats fell dead. It died instantly.

People’s gazes turned to the source of the sound, and there was the girl, sitting on her bodyguard’s shoulders like Zhi-wu, holding a gun.

“Move away!”

People stepped back, hearing the words of the translator, who also held a gun. A passage formed between the giant rats and the girl.

Seeing the giant rats running along this passage, the girl shouted something incomprehensible and started shooting. The translator and bodyguards did the same.

Although they were holding weapons that couldn’t be seen in Korea, people still retreated towards the girl. At least they, unlike the giant rats, were on the side of humans, so the desire to press close to them was stronger than fear.

With each shot, giant rats fell one after another. But due to the constant influx from outside, there was no end to them.

Click!

To top it all off, they ran out of bullets. The girl was at a loss, and others were in the same position. When the attack from the girl’s side weakened, the giant rats began to attack without hesitation.

“Aaaaaah!”

“What to do!”

Everyone was screaming and running away, overwhelmed by desperation and fear. The giant rats seemed to instinctively understand that the most dangerous people were the girl and her company, so they ignored the fleeing people and lunged at the girl. At the moment when the translator and bodyguards surrounded her, trying to protect her, Martin kicked a giant rat that lunged at them with his foot.

Bang!

Kiii!

The rat’s body hit the wall like a ball. It seemed the blow broke its spine because it was making squeaking sounds but only twitched, unable to get up.

Martin continued to destroy rats one after another, stepping on the heads of those that lunged next and kicking those that were hard to reach with his foot. The attacking rats were killed in this way, and those observing at the entrance flinched when Martin looked at them and ran away. It seemed they understood they had encountered an opponent they couldn’t defeat.

When the attacks ceased, among the people who sighed in relief, the excited girl approached. She was shouting something in an incomprehensible foreign language to Martin, and although the bodyguards and translator tried to stop her, it was useless.

Martin, seeing that the situation around had become safe, finally let Zhi-wu down from his shoulders, and Zhi-wu immediately left the building.

The girl and her company followed Martin, who was walking after Zhi-wu, but Zhi-wu paid no attention to them. Now he was worried about the whereabouts of the disappeared pharaoh.

“Where did he go…!”

Could this be the work of that bastard? Zhi-wu felt anxious. He looked around but saw only streets turned into chaos due to fleeing people.

Except for screams coming from afar, the quiet streets were so deserted that it was hard to believe these were the same places that were recently overcrowded with tourists.

Although Zhi-wu had come outside but still couldn’t see the pharaoh, he momentarily doubted whether he had remained inside, but soon shook his head.

It would be meaningless for someone who considers people insects to stay among the crowd, and he had no reason to hide from danger along with other people, so there was no reason not to come out of there.

While Zhi-wu was looking around for the disappeared pharaoh, the girl’s translator asked:

“Where are you heading now?”

It seemed they intended to follow Zhi-wu and his company. Although they had weapons, they had used all their bullets inside the building, so it seemed they didn’t want to lose sight of the strong Martin.

However, Zhi-wu himself didn’t know where to go, so in confusion, he began unconsciously rummaging in his pockets. He wanted to habitually take out his phone to look at a map or contact someone, but something else came into his hand.

‘This…’

It was the monkey’s hand. In the commotion, he had lost the box, but the hand itself was still in his pocket.

Looking at it, Zhi-wu felt irritated. He was annoyed not only by the fact that he was carrying an item that could be infected with some microbes but even more by the fact that it turned out to be completely useless.

‘If it really was an item that grants wishes…’

He could have wished to know where the pharaoh was now. When Zhi-wu mentally thought about wanting to know where he was, something amazing happened.

Crunch, crunch, crunch.

The monkey’s hand, which was half-dried like an egg held in hand, began to move. Because it was rigidly dried, sounds like something breaking were heard as it moved, but soon these sounds stopped.

Zhi-wu was shocked by what was happening in his hand, and the girl and company who were near him were also amazed to see this.

The girl shouted something in a foreign language to her translator, but the translator was also very surprised and just stared at the moving hand, muttering something unintelligible.

“What is this…”

Zhi-wu couldn’t understand why it suddenly started moving. He had heard that the fingers should bend one by one as wishes are fulfilled, but he still didn’t know where the pharaoh was, so it seemed the wish hadn’t been fulfilled.

‘Moreover, this shape…’

All fingers were bent except for the index finger, which was extended as if pointing at something. Remembering what he had thought to himself, Zhi-wu mentally repeated his thought again.

Then the extended index finger bent and pointed at the girl.
