I Possessed the Heroine’s Teacher

Chapter 63

“It seems that one of our companions is communicating with those Black Round Table bastards.”

I couldn’t believe it. I searched through the original game and the first DLC, but I couldn’t find any signs of it.

“There’s a traitor among us? Are you sure about that, sister?”

“There’s a 90% chance of a traitor, and a 10% chance of not having one.”

A traitor, a despicable piece of shit that should never be forgiven. In any country or religion, betrayal is considered a serious crime. In Dante’s Divine Comedy, the three traitors chewed out by Satan include Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus and kissed him.

If there’s a traitor among us, it’s our duty as the youngest and a fellow companion to kill them.

“So, what’s the evidence?”

Accusing someone of being a traitor without evidence should be avoided. Otherwise, it’s no different from the ignorant witch-hunt meta of the 21st century.

“… First of all, they noticed that we were about to leave. Only a few people knew about it, excluding the parties involved.”

“What about the possibility of a traitor among that ‘few’?”

“I thought so at first, but…”

Melissa put down her fork and knife and started tapping the table with her index finger.

“That ‘few’ didn’t know our destination or route.”

“What do you mean?”

“Those bastards attacked us every time we went somewhere.”

They sent their top executives to attack us? Even if it were Zig’s party of heroes, they wouldn’t have been safe.

“Sister, brother, were you injured by those bastards?”

They are a group that uses a magic sword that destroys a wizard’s magic circuit. They are cowardly bastards who might use dirty magic swords or poison. Even if we have overwhelming strength, we could be in trouble if we fall for their cowardly tricks.

“No, they were so pathetic that I was yawning.”

What? Is Werner still feeling guilty about being beaten by some weak bugs when he was a child? That weak, squishy wizard.

“Even the leader and the Celestial Mage could handle it alone. We didn’t even have a chance to intervene.”

Melchior, who had been listening quietly, joined in.

“We captured one and tortured him, but he didn’t have any useful information. He was probably just a low-level lackey.”

“So they let those lackeys attack you and our sister? Those bastards are crazy.”

It’s like sending a few elementary school kids to stop a pack of tyrannosaurs. This wise words come to mind: ‘When the leader is foolish, the subordinates suffer.’

“We’re also puzzled by this. At most, they can tie our feet… or rather, it’s like having more annoying bugs than mosquitoes.”

“Hmm… It’s definitely strange. I don’t know their intentions either.”

“Anyway, the fact that they know our route of travel can only be explained by the presence of an informer among us.”

Melissa’s analysis was convincing. Unless one of the parties involved was an informer, there’s no reason to ambush us at every turn. It’s a bit unsettling that the level of the attackers is low, though.

“Do you have any idea who the traitor might be?”

“Not at all. The suspicion of a traitor only arose recently…”

At least, in my analysis, Werner’s companions weren’t the type to betray anyone. But that’s just their ‘character’ in the game. The personalities and backgrounds of the real people are far more complex than the ‘character’ in the game. If those companions had unavoidable circumstances or showed a different side than their apparent personality, I couldn’t identify the traitor even if I knew them.

“Well, it’s not you, brother or sister…”

“No, that would be a problem.”

“What?”

Could these people be the traitors? That would be a cheap twist.

“You’re still naive, little brother.”

“I don’t have any evidence that I’m not a traitor, and neither do you.”

“I don’t have any evidence that my wife isn’t a traitor either.”

“But brother and sister wouldn’t betray me…”

Before I could finish my sentence, Melissa and Melchior’s hand blades were at my neck. If they applied a little more force, I would have been beheaded.

“You’re still innocent, little brother.”

The traumatic line, ‘You’ve been fooled, little brother,’ came to mind, but I decided to ignore it.

“To survive, you mustn’t let go of your suspicions, not only towards me but also towards others. The person who stabs you in the back is always the one you trust the most.”

“So don’t trust us too much, or you’ll die.”

Oh, so that’s what it meant. The world may seem peaceful, but it’s a jungle full of intrigue. Trusting a close brother or sister can easily lead to death. In reality, debt fraud issues often occur among family members and friends.

“I understand. So, get away from me… before I blow you away with magic.”

“How dare you talk to your sister like that!”

“Is there a problem with getting rid of a suspect who might be a traitor?”

“Fine, let’s use magic to beat each other up and find out who the traitor is through magic!”

Melchior eventually got angry and picked up Melissa, who was struggling in the air. It was quite funny to see her flailing in the air.

“Let’s go! Today, I’ll teach you some manners, little brother!!!”

“You’re used to Werner acting like this. It’s not like it’s the first time.”

Melchior, who had been restraining the rampaging Melissa, turned to me and said,

“So, I have a favor to ask of you, Werner…”

“What is it, brother?”

“I want you to investigate that damn knight commander… or rather, Ricardo, that bastard.”

There didn’t seem to be any need to correct his words, but the latter was even more offensive. As I recall, the relationship between Melchior and Ricardo has been terrible since the first game.

Ricardo Carben, in the game, was the party’s second tank, a knight from a family loyal to the empire. Due to past events and his personality, he had a bad relationship with Melchior. When Melchior’s father was accused of treason, the Carben family rushed the investigation and killed Melchior’s father and mother.

Of course, it was later revealed to be a misunderstanding, and the parties involved resolved it, but Melchior still hated the Carben family. Naturally, he had a bad relationship with Ricardo, the heir of the Carben family. I thought they had somewhat resolved their issues, but it seems their relationship is still bad.

“Why him? Isn’t he in the capital?”

“Yes, he just showed up at the leader’s gathering and left, that gay bastard!”

I remember Ricardo having a wife and daughter, but it seems my memory is a little distorted.

“But how would he know our route?”

“Werner, we have to regularly report our route and next destination.”

That’s right, I heard that. Since each party member is a nuclear-level powerhouse, such reports are necessary. If they suddenly start a rebellion after announcing their departure, there would be no way to stop them.

“That damn bastard who receives the reports is Ricardo, that damn bastard! If we were all together, it wouldn’t be a problem, but since that damn bastard is alone, he can easily communicate with the traitors.”

The level of cursing seems to be getting worse, probably due to his mood.

“So, you and your sister suspect Ricardo as the traitor?”

“I’m still suspicious, but my husband seems to be certain.”

“It’s definitely that bastard!!! Just catch him in the act, and I’ll crush his head and suck his brains out!!!”

Due to Melchior’s excitement, some pretty cruel words were exchanged, but I also found Ricardo suspicious.

If there was something suspicious among the party members who were together, they would have noticed it. They had gone through thick and thin together, so how could they not notice?

So, the only remaining suspect is Ricardo, and in detective stories, a lone wolf is always suspicious.

“Okay, I’ll investigate Ricardo. You two keep an eye on the other brothers and sisters.”

“Alright.”

We can’t rule out the possibility of someone other than Ricardo being the traitor or the existence of multiple traitors.
