I Picked up a Homeless Girl and she is My Ex girlfriend's sister

Chapter 5: without chants

Maki walked around the University of Tokyo campus like she owned the place. Although her carefree attitude didn't quite fit with the serious atmosphere of the institution, her appearance was enough to attract glances.

With her short hair and face practically identical to Mana's, many students assumed it was her. However, those who knew Mana well realized that something was different: the way Maki walked, her relaxed posture, and her disinterested attitude made her stand out.

Maki ignored the glances as she walked around the place, without a clear direction. Inside her, there was a mix of emotions: curiosity about her sister's life and a sense of defiance towards everything Mana stood for.

"So this is the famous University of Tokyo, huh?" she muttered to herself as she looked at the buildings around her.

She walked until she reached the cafeteria, attracted by the aroma of food. However, as soon as she entered, her gaze met with someone familiar: Zeyama Haruno.

Haruno, who was finishing eating, saw her enter. His eyes immediately narrowed in recognition.

"What the hell are you doing here?" he muttered to himself, setting down his chopsticks on the table.

Before he could do anything, Maki was already walking towards him, a sarcastic smile on her face.

"My, my. If it isn't my dear host," she said as she sat down across from him uninvited.

"What are you doing here?" Haruno asked quietly, trying not to draw attention to herself.

Maki looked at him with feigned innocence.

"Can't I be here? Isn't this a public place?"

Haruno sighed, clearly frustrated.

"You know what I mean. This is a university campus. What are you doing at Tokyo University?"

Maki leaned towards him, resting one elbow on the table and placing her chin on her hand.

"What do you think?" "I came to see how my dear older sister lives," he replied in a mocking tone.

Haruno frowned.

"Mana isn't here. And you shouldn't be in this place. If anyone notices that you're not a student, you could get into trouble."

Maki smiled widely, enjoying her reaction.

"Trouble? What trouble could a homeless girl get into?" she said in a carefree tone, making Haruno more nervous.

"Maki…" Haruno began, but before she could continue, a familiar voice interrupted the conversation.

"Mana? What are you doing here?"

Haruno looked up and saw Shiori Mine approaching. Her expression showed a mix of curiosity and surprise.

Maki blinked a few times, confused at first, but quickly realized what was going on.

"Oh, hello," Maki said, pretending to be Mana. "I was just… hanging out with a friend."

Haruno gritted her teeth, but said nothing, letting Maki continue with her performance.

Shiori smiled slightly, but there was something in her eyes that indicated she wasn't entirely convinced.

"How strange. I don't usually see you in the cafeteria. Also…" Shiori tilted her head slightly, observing Maki more closely. "Did you cut your hair?"

Maki nodded quickly.

"Yeah. I wanted to try something different," she replied in a casual tone.

Haruno watched the interaction, wondering how long Maki could keep up the charade.

"It suits you well," Shiori commented with a smile. "Though it seems you've changed your attitude a bit as well. Are you okay, Mana?"

Before Maki could respond, Haruno stepped in.

"Shiori, could you join me for a moment? I need to ask you something about class."

Shiori looked at him, clearly confused by the interruption, but eventually nodded.

"Sure. "Mana, see you later," he said before following Haruno out of the cafeteria.

When they were far enough away, Shiori looked at Haruno curiously.

"That wasn't Mana, was it?"

Haruno sighed, not bothering to deny the obvious.

"No. It's her younger sister, Maki. I was trying to stop her from causing trouble."

Shiori watched him silently for a moment before speaking.

"I understand. But maybe you should talk to her. She seems to be looking for something… I'm not sure what though."

Haruno nodded slowly, pondering his words.

Meanwhile, in the cafeteria, Maki finished what was left of Haruno's food before leaving the campus. Although she enjoyed causing trouble, something inside her was starting to make her uneasy.

"Why do I always have to be Mana's shadow?" she muttered as she walked towards the exit.

Looking at the university buildings, she couldn't help but feel a mix of admiration and resentment.

"If she can be here, why can't I?" she thought, clenching her fists. But immediately afterward, her expression changed to a bitter smile.

"Oh, right. Because I'm the one who ruins everything. That will never change."

With those thoughts in mind, she headed back to Haruno's apartment, feeling more lost than ever.
