Chapter 22: Chapter 22: The Library Encounter
After leaving the Fenghua Hall, Su Zhan did not immediately head to Baiyun Peak but instead made his way to the Sect Library.
Currently, he was in desperate need of Xuan-level martial techniques and cultivation methods to continue supporting his rapidly advancing cultivation.
One hour later, he finally arrived at the sect library.
The library within the Yuntian Sword Sect was enormous and divided into three floors, each corresponding to different levels of martial arts and cultivation techniques available: Mortal, Xuan, and Earth grade respectively.
Of course, there weren't many Earth-level martial arts techniques available in the library, and most of them were low-grade. Even for those in the Core Formation Realm, practicing Earth-level martial arts techniques remained quite challenging.
The entrance to the library bustled with people coming and going. Seeing Su Zhan standing there, they recognized him as a newcomer and some smiled politely at him. Most people seemed friendly enough, though there were also a few who looked down on him with obvious disdain.
Su Zhan, of course, paid no attention to their opinions.
This world operated on the principle that the strong preyed on the weak, and these senior disciples naturally wouldn't take a new disciple like him seriously at first glance.
After entering the library, Su Zhan went straight to the second floor. The shelves were neatly arranged and filled with cultivation techniques and martial arts manuals, including sword techniques, palm techniques, movement techniques, alchemy secrets, and blacksmithing guides. There were also various strange stories and anecdotes about the cultivation world.
"The Morning Qi Art—a low-grade Xuan-level technique. Practicing this technique can extend one's breath and facilitate faster true qi recovery," he read from one manual.
"The Spiritual Fire Art—a mid-grade Xuan-level technique. After mastery, true qi can be transformed into the fire attribute, making one's energy strong and fierce," another description stated.
He quickly browsed through various cultivation techniques, studying their descriptions and requirements.
In the end, he chose a high-grade Xuan cultivation technique: the Yangyan Scripture!
When this cultivation technique was mastered to perfection, his true qi could transform into the flames of the sun, possessing tremendous destructive power!
Furthermore, the Yangyan Scripture was highly compatible with his Sun God Divine Body, making his cultivation progress twice as effective with half the effort.
However, as a cultivator in the Yuan Condensation Realm, mastering a high-grade Xuan technique would still prove quite challenging for him.
Even with the assistance of his Cultivation Halo, it would take considerable time to understand how to transform the true qi from his Cold Jade Cultivation Art into the fire-based true qi required to practice the Yangyan Scripture.
With this consideration in mind, Su Zhan moved toward the martial arts section.
The largest collection of martial arts techniques in the library consisted of sword techniques—roughly three to four times more than any other type of martial art!
This wasn't particularly surprising, given that the Yuntian Sword Sect was, as its name suggested, a sect that specialized in swordsmanship.
"Since I possess the Sun God Divine Body and will be practicing the Yangyan Scripture, I should also choose a sword technique with fire attributes to unleash greater synergistic power!" Su Zhan reasoned as he examined the various sword techniques available.
After careful consideration, he selected a high-grade Xuan sword technique: the Flowing Fire Sword Technique!
It was an exceptionally powerful sword art that would complement his abilities perfectly.
Next, he proceeded to examine palm techniques, fist techniques, and movement techniques.
Because he possessed the special identity token personally crafted by Qin Jincheng, there were no restrictions on the number of martial arts techniques he could select for cultivation. Therefore, he decided to take a complete set of complementary techniques!
He would acquire them all and cultivate them methodically over time!
It took him half an hour to choose the cultivation techniques and martial arts he needed before arriving at the registration desk.
"Yangyan Scripture, Flowing Fire Sword Technique, Shadow Movement..." the deacon began listing the titles as he examined Su Zhan's selections.
The deacon in charge of registration—a cultivator at the Spirit Forging Realm—paused and looked at Su Zhan with confusion. "Don't you know that inner disciples can only choose one martial arts technique at a time? You can only select the next technique after reaching at least minor achievement level in your previously chosen art."
Su Zhan nodded and was about to explain when the deacon's expression suddenly changed. "Wait! You look unfamiliar! Are you a new disciple? Show me your identity token!"
"Of course," Su Zhan replied readily, having intended to present his token anyway. He promptly handed it over to the deacon.
"Why is your identity token... This!" The deacon glanced at the name "Su Zhan" engraved on the token and felt somewhat puzzled. When he turned it over and saw Qin Jincheng's personal seal, he was immediately astonished.
After injecting a small amount of his true qi into the token, he immediately sensed the powerful aura of Qin Jincheng contained within it, causing his expression to change dramatically.
He then respectfully returned the token to Su Zhan with both hands, bowing slightly.
"I never expected Junior Brother to possess a specially crafted identity token personally made by the sect master. As far as I know, throughout the entire Yuntian Sword Sect, only three people—including you—have been honored with such recognition! From now on, Junior Brother, you may freely choose any martial arts techniques available. Simply inform me when you're ready to leave, and I'll record everything!"
"Thank you, Senior Brother," Su Zhan replied with a faint smile, graciously accepting the token.
Within the Yuntian Sword Sect, cultivators who reached the Spirit Forging Realm before age thirty were recognized as true disciples, while those who broke through after thirty became deacons.
Although their cultivation levels were identical, there existed a significant difference in status between the two categories.
That was why a deacon at the Spirit Forging Realm would show such respect to someone who was merely at the Yuan Condensation Realm.
After storing all the selected martial arts techniques in his storage ring, Su Zhan exited the library.
As he walked along a mountain path not far from Baiyun Peak, several Yuan Condensation Realm cultivators suddenly blocked his way.
"You look unfamiliar. Judging by your appearance, you must be a new disciple who just finished selecting martial arts techniques from the library, correct?" The apparent leader of the group, a middle-aged man, asked with a predatory smile.
"Yes, what about it?" Su Zhan replied calmly, glancing at the group to assess their strength.
Apart from the man who had spoken—who was at the middle stage of the Yuan Condensation Realm—the others were only at the early stage.
"New disciple..." The man smiled wider. "Junior, may I know your name?"
"My name is Su Zhan."
The man nodded approvingly. "Junior Su, my name is Zhao Li. I've been a disciple here for four years now. You can call me Senior Brother Zhao. As a senior, I have a habit of protecting newly accepted brothers and sisters so they won't be bullied by other senior disciples."
"Hmm?" Su Zhan looked at Zhao Li with growing confusion.
Is this guy an idiot?
Seeing Su Zhan's puzzled expression, Zhao Li continued with false sincerity, "Of course, this protection requires a small fee. You understand, don't you, junior?"
So they want to extort protection money from me.
Su Zhan immediately understood Zhao Li's true intentions and shook his head firmly. "I suggest you abandon this habit, senior."
"What? Are you refusing to pay?" Zhao Li's expression darkened instantly, his tone becoming threatening.
The other four disciples also approached Su Zhan with unfriendly expressions, forming a loose circle around him.
"Brat, don't think that just because you had some status outside the sect, you can act arrogant here!" one of them sneered.
"The Yuntian Sword Sect is the premier sect in the entire Xia Nation. Since you're new here, you must follow our rules honestly!" another added with obvious menace.
"I've seen many troublemakers like you. Today, let me show you—"
SLAP!
Before the early-stage Yuan Condensation Realm disciple could finish speaking, Su Zhan's hand moved with lightning speed, delivering a powerful slap that sent the man flying.
He tumbled over ten meters away and spat out several bloody teeth upon hitting the ground!
"You dare launch a sneak attack! Everyone, capture him! If we don't teach him a lesson today, he'll think this sect is his personal playground!" Zhao Li shouted angrily.
Instantly, the remaining disciples activated their true qi and rushed toward Su Zhan with hostile intent.
"I'll teach you some respect!"
"This punch will definitely cause serious injuries!"
"Wait... how is he completely unharmed?"
The three Yuan Condensation Realm disciples stared in horror as they witnessed a thin layer of golden light surrounding Su Zhan's body. They couldn't believe that their attacks had failed to penetrate even the outer defense of his Diamond Body Technique.
These people can't even break through the basic layer of the Diamond Body Technique...
Su Zhan paused for a moment, observing the now-bewildered inner disciples with mild disappointment.
"If I hadn't seen you moving, I wouldn't have even realized someone was trying to attack me. With this level of strength, you still have the audacity to demand protection money from me?"
