Chapter 97: Next Round of Matches
After a break, Shisui, Tenga, and Ryou gathered back in the exam area, discussing their upcoming matches and opponents. The arena was still relatively empty, with only a few other Genin students and some Chunin spectators around while the proctor of the exam and the Hokage had yet to arrive.
Tenga glanced at Ryou and asked, "Ryou, what do you think about your opponent?"
Ryou stood with his arms crossed and a relaxed expression. After hearing Tenga, he just shrugged. "Nothing much. Like I said before, no one in the Chunin exam is really my opponent. I don't expect a real challenge from anyone, including you."
Tenga looking slightly dejected, turned to Shisui. "What about you, Shisui?"
Shisui answered with a slightly thoughtful expression. "It's going to be tough for me. I've barely recovered half of my chakra from the last fight, and Retsu Hyuga isn't an easy opponent. If I want to stand a chance against him, I'll have to be careful with how I use my chakra."
Ryou nodded, "You'll need to watch out for Hyuga's Gentle Fist technique and Eight Trigrams Palm Revolving Heaven. One wrong move, and he could impede the flow of your chakra. Your Sharingan also won't be of much help against Byakugan so it's better you don't use your Sharingan if it isn't absolutely necessary. It will only consume your chakra."
Shisui gave a nod. "I will be careful."
Tenga sighed, glancing at Shisui. "Well, I'm in the same situation. My opponent, Choaki Akimichi, has an overwhelming physical strength and is good at Taijutsu. He can also use the Partial Expansion Jutsu of the Akimichi clan.
If he gets even one good hit, I will be done. My Water Style won't be enough to overpower him directly, so I'll need to come up with a strategy. But I couldn't think of any till now!"
Ryou gave his suggestion. "If possible, keep your distance and try to wear him down slowly but make sure you don't tire yourself out first."
"I will try," Tenga nodded hesitantly.
Shisui and Tenga fell silent for a moment, lost in their own thoughts mentally readying themselves to how to fight their opponents.

As the break duration ended, everyone returned to the battle arena, including the Third Hokage himself, but no one was able to tell whether it was truly him or a shadow clone.
Ryou and Kazuki Inuzuka were called for the first match by the referee. They stepped forward to the center stage, looking at each other. Kazuki exuded a confident aura, with his small canine, Shiro, perched on his shoulder.
Shiro resembled the Akamaru breed, with a light brown coat and a bushy tail that flicked eagerly.
As the two exchanged a brief seal of confrontation, Kazuki spoke up with a strong fighting intent. "I know you're very strong, Ryou, but Shiro and I together will take you down."
"Woof!" His canine barked in response.
Ryou amused by his words, replied with a casual, "All the best."
At the referee's signal, "Begin!" Kazuki sprang into action, tossing a smoke bomb at Ryou's feet. The sudden burst of smoke momentarily shrouded Ryou's vision, and Kazuki, along with Shiro, launched a coordinated attack under the cover of smoke.
However, such tactics posed little challenge for Ryou. Channeling wind chakra into his palm, he swept his hand through the air, releasing a powerful gust that dispersed the smoke instantly, revealing Kazuki and Shiro charging toward him.
With a carefree expression, Ryou looked at the canine lunging at him from the side. In one casual motion, he reached out and grabbed the dog by its scruff, stopping the bite in mid-air. The dog Shiro struggled, but Ryou's grip was strong.
Meanwhile, Kazuki dashed forward on all fours, his movements mirroring a dog's stance as he aimed to land a head strike with his entire strength.
Ryou expression remained unchanged as he effortlessly delivered a powerful kick to Kazuki who lunged at him after closing the distance. At such a close distance, he couldn't even react to Ryou's chakra infused kick.
The impact sent Kazuki flying across the arena, crashing into the wall with such force that it left a hole. He hung there for a second before slumping to the ground, visibly shaken.
At the same time, Ryou turned his attention back to the struggling canine in his grasp. With controlled strength, he tossed the canine toward Kazuki, who was trying to get back on his feet by sheer willpower.
With a strong force, the canine smashed into Kazuki's face knocking him back to the ground again. This time, Kazuki didn't rise. Ryou's kick shook him to the core, draining every ounce of strength from his body.
His overwhelming strength made Kazuki have no desire to fight back, as he lay on the ground defeated with his canine beside him.
The arena fell silent for a moment, stunned by Ryou's quick win over the Inuzuka duo. The fight had ended so quickly that the crowd was taken aback for a moment before buzzing with comments about Ryou's impressive strength and his merciless approach, even toward the adorable dog.
"Winner, Ryou!" announced the referee, after seeing Kazuki's defeated state with a hint of sympathy.
---
Tenga's mouth twitched slightly as he watched Ryou's flashy win once again. "Shisui," he muttered, glancing at his companion, "if we make it to the finals, do you think Ryou would go easy on us?"
Shisui stayed silent for a moment, before replying honestly. "I don't think so."
Overhearing the conversation, Daichi chuckled. He was happy to see the strong bond among his students despite Ryou's sudden surge in strength.
Both Tenga and Shisui had never been discouraged or jealous because of this; instead, they worked harder to increase their strength so that they could reach Ryou's level and stand alongside him as equals.
"Alright, you two, focus on today's matches. The finals won't matter if you don't make it there first." Daichi said as he ruffled Tenga and Shisui's hair playfully.
--
Sarutobi Hiruzen looked at Ryou with a slight smile, impressed by his strength once again. However, what made him curious was how an average student suddenly changed so much and the truth behind the sudden leap in strength.
Following the first round of the Chunin Exams and witnessing Ryou's extraordinary strength, he even asked the Anbu to investigate Ryou, from his birth up to the present.
The report he got was, Ryou had been an average student until graduation, but since then, he had undergone a startling transformation. As the Hokage, he was interested in Ryou's sudden increase in strength.
However, he chose not to dwell on it too deeply at the moment. He plans to speak with Ryou after the Chunin Exams to assess his character before deciding on the next course of action.
