I Broke Off My Engagement and Got a Job at the Academy

chapter 88

88. An Unknown Feeling

Vanessa was sitting blankly in a café in a shopping district. There wasn’t really anything to do. She was just sitting there killing time.

The reason she was sitting like this was simple. She had been feeling down lately, so she was trying to change her mood. It didn’t really work though.

“…ha.”

She sighed. I haven’t been able to meet Professor Eden lately. Of course, he must be busy, so that could be the case.

But, it’s been a month already, and it’s been a while since I’ve seen you for almost a month due to various circumstances.

He said he was going on a business trip for a few days due to personal reasons, but he hasn’t been seen since he returned. I don’t even know if he’s alive or dead.

That’s not all. Even before this, I hadn’t seen her for a few days due to a business trip (in fact, I was injured and receiving treatment from Luna, but Vanessa didn’t know). It’s not just my imagination that makes me feel like we’re running on parallel lines.

“Where did you go now….”

I heard that he was attending classes regularly, but to Vanessa, who was a student in another department, that was meaningless.

Even so, the only other person I could hang out with was Luna, and it seemed like she had a lot to do these days. In short, she had nothing to do and no one to meet.

I felt like loneliness was creeping into my bones. I felt like the whole world was ignoring me (actually, I didn’t know I was being ostracized, but I had been doing it since long ago)! That’s why I was just sitting in a cafe like this, killing time without any motivation.

In fact, she also knows. It would be much better to practice or do something than just sit still like this. But what can she do? The human mind is not something that moves only rationally.

If everything had been done rationally from the beginning, there would have been no need to be so concerned about not being able to meet Professor Eden. Vanessa thought to herself and nodded.

But Vanessa soon found herself unable to even feel that relaxed, as male students who wanted to pick up work for her would approach her and talk to her.

When she first received the confession, she was so flustered that she didn’t know what to do and ran away, but as they say, people are creatures that can adapt. Vanessa has now figured out how to deal with this situation.

She looked at the boys with cold eyes. Then, she made eye contact with them with a strong gaze.

“…Get out.”

Finally, all she had to do was to shoo him away with a cold voice. Of course, she didn’t know that because of this kind of event, more and more people were hesitant to approach her, but Vanessa was internally annoyed without even knowing that.

‘Are you saying that I’m nothing to look at except my appearance? No one approaches me except for the person who’s working for me.’

Again, because of the innate aura and the fact that he would crush anyone who tried to work with him, even people who genuinely wanted to become close to him often hesitated. Of course, Vanessa didn’t know that.

Instead, Vanessa was annoyed by the people who were working on her. She said that it was driving her crazy because they would confess in public no matter what. She said that men thought that if they just pushed forward and confessed, everyone would accept it.

In the past, the innocent girl who said that it was hard to say harsh things even though she liked him no matter what has disappeared. There is now a prosecutor who has turned dark because she has been scolded so many times after being confessed to…

Why doesn’t he have any friends his age who approach him in a humane way?

In the novel, the protagonist, a middle-class nobleman who came from a rural area to the capital, makes a lot of friends, but why on earth did he make friends?

Objectively speaking, she’s pretty, from a good family, and talented, but why on earth does she have no friends?

By now, Luna, who had seen quite a bit of the worn-out side of human society, would have confidently answered, “That’s why,” but unfortunately, she was alone now, and there was no one who could give her the right answer.

Eventually, Vanessa got up from her seat. She thought that there was no point in just killing time, and that if she stayed like this, she would only end up getting more entangled with those kinds of people.

Then, someone caught her eye.

Giselle Irkali. There was a conflict during the midterm evaluation, and because of that, we were always awkward whenever we saw each other. To be honest, I didn’t like the way she seemed to feel competitive with me.

Vanessa had real-world experience and was confident in her own skills, so she secretly looked down on her.

Because the evaluation ended early, we ended up winning, but it was a bit ambiguous, so I felt a bit disappointed.

‘Well… I guess there’s no need to bump into it.’

I didn’t like it at first, but she’s a student from another department. Basically, I don’t have to worry about her. She must have a lot of work to do, so I wonder why she’s here, but that story has nothing to do with Vanessa.

Vanessa thought to herself as she turned her back on Giselle and walked away.

Giselle walked along the road feeling doubtful. One of the young ladies who was close to her called her.

I wondered if it was necessary to meet at a shopping mall when we could have met at the academy, but what can I do?

Listening to the voice, it didn’t seem like a bad thing, and I thought it wouldn’t be a bad idea to hang out together.

In fact, just like Vanessa, Giselle was feeling a bit uneasy these days, so she figured that getting some fresh air wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Because Eden had been acting in a way that was practically a direct confrontation with the Emperor, Giselle found herself feeling worried about him for some reason.

Even though he and I had no particular relationship and there was no need to worry about him, I couldn’t find a reason why I cared about Eden more than I did about the others.

First of all, her father, the Duke of Irkali, seemed to have joined hands with the nobles to pressure the imperial faction. So she herself would not have any problems with him for the time being… but would she really be okay with it?

Giselle knows her father well. Even though she joined hands with the Duke of Ariel Cielline, it was only a temporary measure to suppress the imperial faction. If things really get out of hand, who will help Eden?

With that in mind, Giselle thought about asking her father to help Eden, even though she had no answer as to why she was acting this way.

Of course, her father and Eden would be shocked and shocked to hear that, but Giselle did not know the backstory between her father and Professor Eden Cainus.

In the end, I kept worrying about him for no reason, but since he disappeared without a trace except when I was in class, my anxiety only grew.

Anyway, in that situation, Giselle didn’t necessarily refuse the meeting. She thought she could forget her worries by meeting people.

“Oh, you’re here?”

Giselle nodded at Youngae’s greeting that called her.

“Yeah. But why did you ask me to meet you here? You could have seen it at the Academy.”

“Haha… I have something I want to tell you, but I think there will be a lot of eyes watching me at the Academy.”

Giselle tilted her head at those words. What do you want to give me? What is it that you want to meet me to give me?

“What is it?”

“Ah… That’s it, this bracelet.”

It was a bracelet that looked like nothing special at first glance. Giselle took it and looked at it from all angles.

“What is it?”

I don’t know what it is, but it’s not an ordinary thing. I have a strange feeling about it.

Yeong-ae smiled at Giselle and said.

“This is a bracelet that increases your natural sensitivity. Would you like to try it on?”

At those words, Giselle obediently put the bracelet on her wrist. Certainly, it felt as if she could feel the natural flow of magic a little better.

“oh….”

The heightened natural sensitivity means that it becomes easier to absorb natural magical power into the body. It is an extremely rare effect that helps with magical power recovery and growth.

“…It’s certainly good, but why are you doing this to me?”

Then Youngae smiled and said.

“Final exams are coming up soon. I remember you feeling bad about Vanessa Delphias last time… I wanted to give this to you in the hopes that you’ll do well on the exam.”

Then Giselle smiled and said,

“Thank you. Hearing that makes me feel like I’m going to do well on the test already. How should I repay you for this?”

Then, Young-ae waved her hand with a smile on her lips.

“Oh, no. An example. I didn’t ask for anything like that. I just…”

Yeong-ae smiled with cloudy eyes.

“…I just hope that the bracelet will bring good results to Giselle.”

However, Giselle did not detect any hint in Yeongae’s eyes.
