Chapter 40: These Witches Have Twisted into a Doughnut

A packed study schedule is always a torment while you're living through it—but when you suddenly look back, it feels like it passed in a flash.
“Is Jiang Cha really okay?”
A month ago, she was this energetic, talkative, lively girl. Now she wandered the living room late at night in bunny pajamas, dark circles under her eyes, scouring the fridge like a zombie.

He Qin couldn't take it anymore.
“Qinbao, you didn’t see her ⊛ Nоvеlιght ⊛ (Read the full story) schedule. It’s demonic. The only reason she’s still alive is probably because of her magic power.”
The golden-haired loli muttered with exasperation.

Why were they still awake so late too?
“Because we’re being dragged into the grind! If she keeps this up, she’s gonna grind us all into the grave!”
None of them had gotten proper sleep for the entire month. Even their night owl roommate—who usually appeared once a week like a rare phenomenon—was now part of their daily scenery.

“I think Jiang Cha's dedication is admirable.”
Estelle chimed in, eyes sparkling. Her next words revealed her true motivation:
“And the strawberry-flavored mental potion she made is so good.”

“Can I order another batch?”
“Huh? Oh, sure.”
Jiang Cha finally reacted, still chewing a hot dog, nodding absentmindedly. It wasn’t that she’d gone stupid from sleep deprivation. Witches could go without sleep for a month without suffering much mentally—especially since all of them had been downing mental recovery potions like water.

No, her brain was simply at full computational load. Her thought circuits were maxed out, leaving her in a sluggish, near-autopilot state.
“Then I want peach flavor.”
He Qin hesitated but placed her order too.

“Me too, me too! I want... Tea Bao flavor!”
The golden-haired loli jumped in, grinning mischievously.
“Okay, sure.”
Jiang Cha nodded again, still completely unfazed, as she polished off her hot dog and returned to the couch with her textbook.

“Lina-chan, what kind of name is that?”
Even He Qin only gave her a half-hearted scolding. They were all used to this by now.
“Sigh~ These kids are hopeless. What is Cha Bao working so hard for?”

“…”
“She’s totally zoned out. Estelle, do you still have those ice crystal grenades?”
“…”

“You too?! Qin Bao, lend me your puppet…”
Lina turned and saw that all three of them had entered full focus mode, entirely unresponsive.
This is what it was like having one combat witch trying to master everything and three omniscient-path witches competing to keep up.

“Fine, guess I’ll keep practicing my casting speed.”
She closed her eyes, and her mental power began outlining complex spell models in the air—only to let them unravel, one after another. This had become their daily routine for the past month.
There were four people in the living room, but not a single sound.

“Estelle’s asleep?”
At 8 a.m., Jiang Cha set down her book and exited focus mode. She glanced at the two pairs of focus glasses resting nearby, gently shook the golden-haired loli snoozing on her lap, and looked over at He Qin in the kitchen.
“Yeah. That girl’s fragile—needs her rest on time.”

“A premature witch, huh. The early drawbacks really do show.”
Jiang Cha sighed.
“She’s not just premature. Her inherent magic also puts a bigger strain on her body… Actually, you count as a premature witch too, since you awakened naturally. But your body’s ridiculously strong.”

“Cha Bao’s just a mutant. She awakened with 60,000 magic power. How could she not be tough?”
The golden-haired loli yawned, stretched, and then instantly sprang back to her usual hyper state.
“Mom He Qin, what’s for breakfast today?”

“I told you not to call me Mom… We’re having sandwiches.”
In general, witches go through three stages of development.
First stage: Infancy (0–3 years old)
Magic power rapidly rises to its talent cap, then stalls. Lina, for instance, was born with 8,000. By age three, she hit 35,000—and it’s only now, after many years, that she’s barely passed 40,000.

Second stage: Adolescence (14–18 years old)
This is He Qin’s current phase. Her magic power has jumped from 27,000 to over 30,000 in just three months. By the end of puberty, she’s expected to hit 60,000.
Lina hasn’t reached puberty yet, but being on the omnipotent path is like a sporty kid with perfect nutrition—once puberty hits, she’ll probably soar to 80,000–100,000.
Third stage: Post-puberty / Trait development
This is when witches build personalized traits to enter the “great witch” phase. Estelle’s not there yet either.

She’s a premature witch—her body couldn’t fully support her talent at birth, so her current 20,000+ doesn’t reflect her true potential. When her body catches up, she may surpass He Qin.
Then there’s the awakened witch, like Jiang Cha.
Due to spatial distortions, awakened witches grow faster than normal during adolescence. And since Jiang Cha is also training in the omnipotent path, her power may reach 150,000 by the end of puberty.
That’s terrifying. Most omnipotent-path witches only break 200,000 after reaching the great witch stage.

“Why am I always labeled a pervert… Oh, Lina, didn’t you order a mental potion yesterday? What flavor again?”
Lina usually didn’t need Jiang Cha’s potions. Her family supplied her with customized mid-level formulas. But as she put it: drink anything long enough and you get bored.
So she liked to change it up.

“Your ** scent~”
“Canned herring, right? Got it.”
Jiang Cha nodded seriously and jotted it down. Lina gasped in shock, grabbing her cheeks dramatically.

“Cha Bao, isn’t the taste of your crotch way too strong!?”
“…"
Jiang Cha stared at her in silence.

This golden-haired loli seriously needed a beating. A true little devil—only obedient when pushed until her eyes rolled back.
