I Became a Veteran Heroine in a Harem Story

26 - Cold Reality (1)

“The most common incident that Academy personnel get involved in when going outside is violation of dignity maintenance. It’s a problem that occurs because they become too relaxed. So you need to constantly monitor them and make them vigilant.”

‘Makes sense.’

When I visited the Student Council room to educate the duty personnel, all of whom were Student Council members, the third-year instructor was educating the students. The seniors seemed indifferent as if they had experienced this several times, but we couldn’t be that way since it was our first time.

We had to absorb everything the instructor said with more proper posture than anyone else.

“Especially, encourage them to strictly adhere to time. It’s also your duty to control the return time of day-trip students and the night movement of overnight-stay students.”

The instructor explained with a dead serious face, and I also listened seriously on the outside, but honestly, I thought, is that all?

The strict crackdown was just about being late. From my perspective, with my threshold raised significantly due to past experiences, it wasn’t that big of a deal.

‘Is this the limitation of a common genre without any special characteristics?’

I wasn’t hoping for chaos breaking out everywhere, but it was true that most of my senses were still adjusted to that.

Unless I tried desperately to win protagonist Erich’s heart like a real heroine, the Academy harem genre wasn’t particularly appealing to me right now.

“First-years especially cause a lot of trouble. We understand that it’s because they’re unfamiliar and excited, having gone through it ourselves, but those responsible must take responsibility, right?”

“There won’t be any problems.”

“That’s something we’ll have to see.”

After the education ended and the instructors left, the seniors approached us. Particularly, Eric from the second-year Year Council and Franz, the Student Council Vice President, were visibly grinding their teeth at us.

“According to Student Council regulations, Student Council members who fail to perform their duties properly will be punished regardless of their year. Keep that in mind.”

They glared at me as I looked at them directly, warned us, and left without even waiting for a response. They are excellent atmosphere makers who make even their own peers cautious.

“The punishment in the regulations is just demerits, yet they act as if it’s something great. Well, we started off on the wrong foot, so maybe it’s something we have to accept?”

“But those demerits also accumulate into disciplinary action. They will definitely find all sorts of faults and cling to them. Shouldn’t we prepare for that?”

As Erich quietly sneered, Karin looked around nervously as if no one was there.

As Karin suspected, those childish kids might try something. They weren’t completely immature, but having interacted with them, I thought it was quite possible.

‘To think that the thing to worry about is just childish pranks.’

I still felt strange.

I was so confused that I didn’t know whether to say it was good because it was leisurely and peaceful, or annoying because it was trivial.

It had already been a month and a half since my second possession started, but perhaps because the memories of my past life were so intense compared to the leisurely Academy life I was living now, I still couldn’t quite adapt to this strange feeling.

“We all have vacation due to early qualification anyway. Let’s each spend time separately.”

“Where are you going? The Year Council room?”

“I’m going to the classroom because I have some things to pick up.”

After leaving the Student Council, we dispersed. Most of them headed towards the dormitory, but I headed to the classroom with Lunara, who insisted on following me.

“Today is Friday morning.”

“So?”

“It’s the last exam. For going out.”

The reason Lunara was heading to the classroom building was to watch the exam that was currently taking place. The mountain that failing students, who had started to fall behind, had to climb in order to go out.

Lunara pulled my arm towards the training field, saying we should watch them.

“I don’t have high expectations. The fact that they’ve come to the very last minute without being able to use such basic mana operation.”

“No. If they pass here, who knows. Once they have a realization, there are people who can surge ahead.”

When I frowned thinking of Isabel, Lunara insisted. I could have refused, but it wasn’t common for her to be this stubborn, so I eventually headed to the training field where students had gathered.

“Look, she’s still trying.”

There, Lunara pointed to someone. The twin-tailed girl running desperately while receiving glancing looks from those practicing spear techniques was definitely Isabel.

‘She might make it?’

My eyes widened slightly seeing Isabel. Since that day, I had barely spoken to her, but her level had risen quite a bit, and she was somehow managing to exceed the cut-off line.

“Actually, I helped her for two whole days. Just like Erich helped me… We practically lived on the training field all day until right before curfew.”

“Well done. What words did you use to persuade her?”

I smirked at Lunara’s boasting, who seemed to be in a good mood. What Isabel needed wasn’t technique or learning, but mindset.

I was curious about how Lunara had changed that.

“I told her that this was her last chance, so she must seize it and prove herself to you.”

“What?”

But her smiling words were unexpected. For a moment, I was at a loss for words, not knowing how to respond to her bold statement of using my name.

“I don’t know what happened in your squad, but she seems to be quite concerned about you. After we started training together, every time she opened her mouth, she only talked about you.”

She shrugged her shoulders and slightly avoided my gaze. Seeing that, I couldn’t bring myself to scold her. This kid knows she’s cute.

One good thing about possessing a female body was that I could freely pinch Lunara’s soft cheeks.

“Not wanting to die but not wanting to do things is a contradiction. On the battlefield… those who can’t bear such contradictions always die first.”

“Ugh… that’s not easy. I think aligning consciousness and unconsciousness to reach the extreme is a kind of state of enlightenment.”

“I never said it was easy. Just that if you can’t do it, you die. That’s reality. That’s why I didn’t want to see it. There’s no point in giving or receiving affection to someone who’s going to die soon anyway.”

Although I now live here, all my values still being influenced by my past life is an irresistible force that even I cannot control.

After all, it was the most intense, desperate, and longest time in my life, which has already changed faces twice.

During that time, I experienced everything – the bottom, the peak, acquisition, and loss. I also had plenty of memories I didn’t want to repeat.

Compared to that place, there was no reason to bring it up again in this world, which was essentially like a beginner’s zone.

“I’m glad to know what you’re thinking, but please believe me just once. She really could change.”

Lunara patted my back and pointed forward. In the end, Isabel, who had passed the test, was trudging towards us who were watching from outside the training field.

“I passed the test… but the instructor said to speak directly to the Year Representative for additional permission…”

With trembling legs, she took out a crumpled piece of paper from her pocket. It was an application form she had prepared in advance. Although she said permission, I actually didn’t have the authority to reject this. She had already met the established qualifications.

“I’ll stamp it as soon as I get back. You’ll be able to go out tomorrow, so don’t worry.”

I took the application form and tucked it into my chest. But even though I had given permission, Isabel was still hesitating and watching my reaction.

“Is there something else you want to hear from me? You’ve just now achieved the basics, what more do you want to hear?”

“Ah…”

“If you want to go out first thing tomorrow morning, take a clean bath and rest this evening. Being untidy during an outing is also a violation of regulations.”

I didn’t praise her at all and just turned away. It might be a great achievement for her, but objectively, it’s still not enough to be reassured. I need to push her more to make her grow a bit more.

Still, since she had proven she could do it, I didn’t plan to ignore that possibility anymore.

“Everyone is so excited. The dorm supervisor will have to shout a bit at night, right?”

“This place, Reten, is quite famous. There’s a saying that it runs on the money students spend when they come out.”

Despite it being evening, unlike usual, the dormitory atmosphere was noisy and heated. This was because the outing they had been longing for would start tomorrow.

Wherever they went, students were only talking about what they would do and where they would go tomorrow.

Almost all students had experienced isolation for over a month for the first time in their lives. Moreover, they all came from noble families.

After the Magic Revolution, various types of capitalists emerged, donating large sums to the royal family and receiving noble titles one by one, so in the past 150 years, the number of nobles had rapidly increased, and the students’ pockets were thick accordingly.

Correspondingly, the city of Reten, where the Academy was located, despite its peripheral location, had various things prepared for consumption if one had money, so that rumor was widespread throughout the kingdom.

“Karin, can’t you lighten your expression? You’ll get wrinkles between your eyebrows.”

“Yeah. Let’s just slip away and play secretly.”

“No way. Don’t you know Kiina’s personality? It’ll be a big deal if we’re caught. Sigh… so don’t worry about me and just have fun among yourselves. Since things have turned out this way, what can I do? I’ll just do as I’m told.”

Of course, there were also those who couldn’t enjoy while everyone else was enjoying.

After such a night where many people couldn’t sleep for various reasons, the morning sun of the weekend rose.

On weekends, the wake-up alarm doesn’t ring, and the dorm supervisor doesn’t urge, but the students had already thoroughly prepared.
