Chapter 2 - The Grotesque Demon King (2)
The Grotesque Demon King (2)
“So a magical girl is…”
[Skip all that. So is it possible or impossible?]
“Hiyaaak!”
Perhaps slightly excited, I unconsciously wrapped my tentacles around her limbs. It was my usual play habit.
[Ahem, anyway, just tell me the conclusion]
“It’s possible, possible! Originally, being a magical girl means drawing on one’s own potential! Someone of your level, Demon King, surely!”
[So you’re saying I can have a human body]
“Gehek..”
I couldn’t contain my excitement. Something that was impossible with any magic in the demon realm – I could get a new body.
[Oh, sorry]
I hurriedly loosened the tentacle that was choking Yuria’s neck.
Being used to hardcore choking play, I did it unconsciously.
[Good. A very interesting contract]
“Please spare me… please spare me..”
[I, I’m going to do it]
I had already made up my mind. This was an opportunity I absolutely couldn’t miss.
One way or another, it meant I could get a human body and return to Earth. Of course, in the Earth I knew, magical girls were beings that only existed in fiction.
But what does that matter? Even if that Earth isn’t the Earth I originally lived in but is another fictional world like this place, it has internet, people, and delicious food.
It means it has everything I’ve been unable to forget until now.
[I want to hear more about the contract, Department Head Yuria]
“Y-you’ll make a contract? You?!”
[Is there a problem?]
“Not exactly, but…”
Her eyes that had been looking at me with fear wavered. Well, a horrible tentacle monster becoming a magical girl, it doesn’t match at all.
Moreover, before the possession, I was an army sergeant on his last vacation. But to the current me, a demon king who had lived for over 100 years, such things didn’t matter at all.
“You are… beyond all existing fairy realms, an existence comparable to the World Tree Yggdrasil. Why would someone like you want to become a magical girl?”
[That’s my business. Am I wrong?]
“Hik.”
When I slightly glared, she who was lying prostrate flinched and quickly pressed her forehead to the ground. Her forehead, which she had hit on the floor several times, was already red.
“Ba-basically, magical girls are in the position of employees, moreover, debtors. In exchange for our fairy nation borrowing the power of Yggdrasil to draw out their potential, they fight against villains. There’s no reason for a great being like you to take such a role…”
[A kind of cliché, huh. Magical girl works had a strangely depressing taste to them. But so what? If I contract with you, will you propose an unfair contract to me like with the others?]
“How could we…”
She quickly wilted.
From what I heard, she had made a gambling move for a game-changing hit to save her declining company, but looking at her behavior, she didn’t seem that bold.
[Then, what contract terms will you offer to accommodate me?]
I thrust my eye close to her who was lying flat. Squeezing her eyes shut, she answered that she would use all the authority she had to come up with an answer.
[Leave behind a part of your body containing your magic power when you go. Yes, that hair will do. If you don’t return within the set time limit, not only I but this proud demon realm’s army will invade and slaughter your fairies alive]
“Hii… hiiii…”
[Now go. I hope you bring back a good answer]
I ripped out a handful of her hair and kicked her rear, throwing her into the dimensional gate. Even after she disappeared, I was feeling quite good.
I’m not dreaming right now, am I?
“Did you call for me, Your Majesty?”
[I wonder if the concubines are awake right now? Send some in. I’m in a good mood]
“I’m glad to hear that, Your Majesty. I will send them right away.”
Robert bowed his head and left the room. For now, I planned to keep completely silent about the fairy from another world.
[It should be about time… maybe I should have specified a time]
One day, two days, three days passed. I paced anxiously in my room waiting for news.
Though I threatened to invade, I actually had no intention of doing so.
I don’t even know what kind of place it is.
[Hmm?]
But it seems my worry was needless. The dimensional gate was opening again. And what appeared from there was Yuria with a grim expression, and another fairy.
“I greet the Demon King of another world. I am Rana, the president of Lana Land.”
She pushed up her silver-rimmed glasses, bowed deeply, and politely introduced herself.
I roughly understood the situation. Well, this wasn’t a bad situation for me either. Rather than wasting time, it’s faster to talk directly with the highest decision maker.
[Good. Then I’ll treat you as proper envoys, and we’ll start negotiations now]
I extended my tentacles to pull over a desk and chairs. To proceed with proper contract discussions, sitting face to face.
“First, I must mention that this is an unprecedented major recruitment that neither we nor anyone in the fairy nation has ever attempted.”
[Good. I understand]
“Thank you, Demon King. Therefore, please note that every single term of this contract is historically significant.”
She carefully pushed forward the documents she had prepared. I picked them up and brought them over. Even if it was text and language from another world that I was seeing and hearing for the first time, with translation magic there was no problem in reading the meaning contained within.
“As you’ll see, first of all, the fact of your contract must proceed in absolute secrecy. This means we have no choice but to use a standard contract. However, adding additional terms is each company’s policy.”
[What exactly does ‘villain’ mean here? Witches? Other-world monsters? Terrorists? Aliens? Criminals?]
“It includes all of those.”
Though I said it as a joke, Rana, serious until the end, made her glasses flash.
According to the contract, magical girls must mandatorily deal with villains and transfer the negative energy they possess to the fairies.
Moreover, there’s even a special clause obligating them to attack enemies designated by the fairies.
What magical girl? This is more like a hired thug.
[Remove this conscription obligation. I’ll do the basic work. But there’s no reason for me to follow your orders. Why? Because you’re weaker than me]
“But…”
“You speak truly, Your Majesty.”
Rana covered Yuria’s mouth. I ordered the special clause about mandatory conscription to be discarded.
Honestly, there wasn’t much else besides that. Real-time location tracking and not harming ordinary citizens, well whatever. Other than that, there were only formal things like not disclosing contract details to other companies.
“Then now for the special clauses. The issue is that since this type of contract is unprecedented, we’re ignorant about your side. So we’ll first explain the unavoidable regulations.”
First, my identity must be kept absolutely secret, pretending to be an ordinary magical girl.
And since magical girl contracts must go through the World Tree Yggdrasil, there’s a set maximum. I was slightly displeased that this maximum wasn’t even half of half of half of my power.
“However, currently there haven’t even been 5 magical girls in Earth’s entire history who reached the maximum, that is, the fairy nation’s certified SSS rank.”
[I understand, let’s move on from that]
I don’t think I’ll need that much power anyway. Actually, if I just learn Earth’s coordinates through them, I could open a direct dimensional gate.
Power wasn’t any problem, is what I meant.
“This is the connector that helps an ordinary girl transform into a magical girl.”
She fumbled around and pulled something out. It was an ordinary-looking red jewel.
[A mysterious spell is embedded. A spell that stores the subject’s power]
“Y-you can read the World Tree’s divine law…”
“Usually, they wear it as a necklace, bracelet, ring, or such.”
Rana covered the shocked Yuria’s mouth again. I snickered and took the jewel.
[Let’s talk about special clauses. First, I will not accept any interference from you, or any fairies beyond you]
“As long as you follow the regulations, we’ll cover for you. So that’s possible.”
[Next, you also keep silent about this matter]
“…That’s possible.”
[Lastly, we renew our contract at regular intervals]
My eye curved. Did she catch my meaning? Rana’s face hardened.
[Is this contract only beneficial to me? I don’t think so at all]
“That’s… right.”
[I hear the recruitment competition between fairy companies is quite fierce. If an SSS-rank, of which there are only a few in the world, appears at your company in this situation, the benefits would be considerable, right? Not just in terms of performance]
“…That’s correct.”
[So why should I continue to contract with you in the future?]
Looking through briefly, I could see these power-tripping fairies’ schemes here and there.
Essentially a lifetime contract once contracted, no freedom to transfer. A thorough performance-based system with no care for lower ranks. No minimum welfare? No such regulations.
A completely absurd contract with no job security, no minimum wage, no set working hours.
[Others might be different. But if you try to scam me one more time… you’ll all die]
I deliberately didn’t hide my killing intent. Rana gasped for breath, and Yuria who was standing beside her staggered and collapsed.
[Well, since everything seems agreed upon, shall we proceed with the contract?]
I reversed the atmosphere at that point. Actually, just one clause about being able to terminate the contract if I’m dissatisfied would be enough.
After all, my goal isn’t to realize justice with dreams and hope, but just to indulge in nostalgia for my homeland while living an easy life.
