Chapter 63: [ BETTER THAN YOU THOUGHT ]
Abigail stood in front of Enoch with a cling first, looking nervous as she squeezed her phone in her other hand. She was so nervous, angry and afraid at the same time, not knowing how to explain herself to Enoch.
"Are you going to tell me or not?" She hared Enoch asking, which got her out of her thoughts.
"Am not going on with the case. Am sorry Mr Damtis, but you don't know who Amanda is. All you know is she's my friend, but if I tell you who her father is, even you won't go on with this case. Her father will make me surfer if I put her behind bars." Abigail said, trying to reason with Enoch.
"You know you can't back down now right? Why didn't you think about all this before going on with the charges?" Enoch asked, but about couldn't tell how he was feeling due to his expressionless face.
" I forgot to think of that, I forgot to okay? I just didn't know I'll be reminded this way." Abigail said at the verge of tears, bowing her hand to make sure Enoch doesn't see her teary eyes.
" Am not going to let you back down and you know that. Just get your best behavior on and let get this case done with." Enoch said as he lifted Abigail's face and whipped the tears off.
" Mr Damtis please. You don't know who her father is and what he can do if ..... " Out of fear, Abigail was still insisting when Enoch cut in.
" I know perfectly well who her father is and what he can do. And can you please stop calling me Mr Damtis all the time?" Even though he did not show it on his face, Abigail knew from his words that Enoch was angry.
"Give me your phone." Enoch said after a while when Abigail didn't say anything but kept her head hanging.
Abigail cling her fingers around her phone so tight, as if that can protect the information on it from Enoch. She placed her hands behind her forgetting Gideon was standing some feet away behind her.
The next she knew, her phone was snatch away from her and handed to Enoch by Gideon, and all she could do was protest and try to get it away from Enoch but to no avail .
Enoch open the phone when Abigail finally gave up trying to get it, and the first thing that welcomed him was a shot message from a private number, with danger emojis attached to it at the beginning and the end.
"Am sure you have forgotten who Amanda's father is, which is why you want to stand against her in court. I know you won't win the case, but whatever happens, be ready to face the consequences. But if you don't want any trouble, then don't appear in the court."
In the next minute, Abigail heard a loud smashing sound which got her scared but turn to the direction it came from. To her dismay her phone was scattered on the floor in pieces, some meters away from them.
Yes, Enoch had smashed the phone into a truck that was parked meters away from them, right across them, making it dismantle and scatter into many pieces. He held Abigail's hand and being to walk her into the courtroom, not giving her a chance to say anything.
Just when they were about entering the corridor of the courtroom, a feminine voice called out to Enoch, making him stop right at the entrance. Knowing who the voice belongs to, he didn't want to turn, but the ladys next question gave him no choice but to turn around and face her.
"I don't think I have to remind you of our deal." The lady asked as she made her way to the entrance where Enoch and Abigail were standing.
Both Enoch and Abigail turned to look at the lady behind them, and Abigail was lost of the lady's identity. Round face with a pointed nose, a small lips that was smiling and a cat-like eyes that matches her dark hair which fell on the shoulder like water.
The lady was a bit shorter than Abigail but beautiful as well. Had a fair and she was well shaped like a doll. Classy and elegant, dressed in a knee length red dress with a black jacket, standing in front of two heavily bodied men who were dressed in all black.
Abigail was sure she had never seen that woman before, nor did Enoch mentioned anyone like that to her. She stared at the lady and for some unknown reason, she felt the lady dislike her due to the hostility she felt in her gaze.
"If you didn't forget, then how can I?" Enoch responded sarcastically, yet there was no expression on his face.
"I'll do as I said, and make sure things go your way, but don't think of fooling me this time, else you know what is at stake." The lady said calmly, but gave Abigail a deathly gaze before passing her by and entered the courtroom.
"Who is she?" Curiously, Abigail asked as she watched the lady's retreating figure.
"No one you know. Let go." Enoch said and took a step towards the corridor.
"But what about her father? He won't let me be." Abigail dowed her head in sadness as she spoke.
"I know perfectly well who her father is, and don't worry, am not even sure her father sent you that message. He's wanted by the police and my men are watching him as well, one mistake and he'll be in prison." Enoch said and held Abigail's hand again to walk her into the courtroom.
Quietly, Abigail followed Enoch to the courtroom without protesting. She knew she was being dragged like a kid who didn't want to attend class, but she didn't care. All she did was smile as she stared at Enoch from behind.
Suddenly, she bump into Enoch and almost fell, but Enoch was quick to get her back to her feet. Only then did she realized someone else was standing beside them.
" Amanda....?" Abigail said, shock to see the state her friend was in. "You look....." She tried to say something but couldn't.
"Better than you thought? Don't worry, am going to get better than this." Amanda said sarcastically, as if she was not suffering at all.
"On the contrary, I was going to say you look awful." Abigail said boldly, showing a face that says disgusting.
"Don't think you've worn the case already because of him. As you know, my father can get in here and take me out. Then I'll come to get you myself this time." Amanda said boldly.
"Oh really, let him come then. Am prepared for him as well." Abigail said and walk closer to Amanda and whispered into her ear.
"I know you sent me that message. Don't worry I won't tell anyone, but know this, your foolishness got a gun to your father's head." She stepped back to have a look at Amanda, and terrified was her expression.
"Mr Damtis, you are here already, this was please." Enoch's lawyer said upon reaching them and lead the way to the front seat where they'll be sitting.
Amanda was fuming with anger but had no option than to move when the prison officers who had been standing behind her, pushed her forward and walked her to her seat.
Abigail turn around to see if Amanda was still standing in shock, only to be welcome by familiar faces. Some of the family members from both Enoch's and her family, were there to support her, including some of her friends like Gasper, Stino and Lion.
She gave them a shot smile before turning to Enoch to inform him of those who came, but he was not on his seat nor to be found in the courtroom. She looked around to see if she could see him anywhere close, but he was gone, leaving her alone with the lawyer.
Abigail kept looking around hoping to find Enoch anywhere in the courtroom and wishing he at least return before the hearing begins. "Mr Ammoah, please can I make a call with your cell phone?" She asked the lawyer seated beside her, who was going through his files.
Mr Ammoah, Enoch's lawyer, didn't waste time but handed his phone to Abigail without question, but it was useless as the voice of the court's spoke person rang in the room, asking everyone to put their phone off or on vibration.
The speaker went on with the instructions on the dos and don'ts of the court, making sure she was well head by everyone. Abigail turned to the other side of the courtroom, only to be welcome by a deathly gaze from Amanda.
She looked as if she could kill instantly, but that wasn't Abigail's worries at the moment. She handed the lawyer's phone back to him and sat upright as the hearing was about to begin.
"Miss Abigail, I hope you heard everything the speaker said? Pls be sure I'll do all I can for you to win the case, but you have to be calm and control your temper since anything can happen." Mr Ammoah said to Abigail.
"I've heard you." Even though Abigail said those words calmly, her mind was a mess, and all she was wishing, was for Enoch to return to her safely, and that to on time.
She bowed her head and placed both hands in a fist under her jaw to recite a shot prayer, but before she could finish praying, she heard the speaker's voice again, ordering everyone to be on their feet.
"Court rise. His Lordship judge Luis Lamer..." The speaker said, and every single soul in the court room got to his or her feet, and waited till the old looking man who seems to be in his late 50's, walked in and sat on his seat behind the bar, before taking their seat as well.
Now was the time, it was now or never for Abigail, but her greatest support was no where to be found. She felt she wouldn't be able to do anything if Enoch doesn't return, and her fear grew wider when she heard the Speaker's voice again.
"Case number 2237. The complainants, Miss Abigail Nyimbo, verses the defendant, Miss Amanda." She said and took a brief look at the faces of the attendance, before going on to speak.
"Miss Abigail, is sueing Miss Amanda, for being the master mind behind an attempted rape and murder on her. Which was caused on her on the 25th of November 2016, by three men who claimed to have been sent by two different women, including Miss Amanda.
