Chapter 66 - II
Qin Yizhi said, “This time, I also gave a letter of engagement and a betrothal gift for this cat.”
Xie Qi said, “…It’s quite powerful.”
Still, a kitten hired seriously.
But it did have a good temper, and its eyes showed that it was smart.
The cat had won Xie Qi’s heart. He couldn’t help but smile and said sincerely, “I love you, husband.”
Qin Yizhi said, “What did you say? I didn’t hear you.”
Xie Qi thought, “…”
How could he say this so confidently?
Xie Qi immediately understood what Qin Yizhi meant and raised his voice, “Husband, I love you!!!”
Qin Yizhi said lightly, “Love is very superficial.”
Xie Qi responded, “???”
‘Then, what did you want from me?’
Xie Qi asked directly, “Then how can we not be superficial?”
Qin Yizhi fell silent. He looked away from Xie Qi slightly and observed the cat, which had rushed toward the cat-teasing stick but failed to catch it. He whispered, “It’s not very smart either.”
“Ah?” Xie Qi glanced at the cat and said, “It’s not that it’s not smart; it’s that I’m more skilled. The essence of teasing a cat is to make it impossible for it to catch the toy.”
Qin Yizhi asked, “Really?”
Xie Qi said, “Yes.”
He smiled, vaguely cunning, and waved the cat-teasing stick like a whirlwind. Dan Huang was dazzled, so exhausted that it didn’t even bite the feathers of the stick. In a fit of anger, it pounced directly on Xie Qi and bit him, catching his wrist.
“Ah!” Xie Qi screamed in fright. Qin Yizhi squatted down, pinched the back of Dan Huang’s neck, pulled it off, and examined Xie Qi’s wrist. There were only faint red marks from the bite.
Qin Yizhi put down Xie Qi’s wrist and said, as if with a hint of meaning, “If you go too far, be careful of backlash.”
Xie Qi didn’t understand what he meant. He just reached out and touched the imprint on his wrist. He breathed a sigh of relief and said, “Fortunately, the cat is trained well and didn’t bite too hard.”
Thinking of something else, he asked, “Has it been vaccinated?”
Qin Yizhi replied calmly, “It has had its vaccinations, and there’s just one last shot. Don’t worry, there won’t be any rabies virus.”
Xie Qi said, “I know.”
He hugged the kitten in Qin Yizhi’s hand, kissed its face without any disdain, and said, “I forgive you.”
Qin Yizhi lowered his eyes and watched as Xie Qi kissed the cat’s face affectionately. The cat seemed a little disgusted and pushed Xie Qi’s face with its paw. Qin Yizhi then whispered, “Cats are full of bacteria.”
Xie Qi immediately said, “You’re not allowed to say that about Dan Huang. There are no bacteria on it; it’s clean. Isn’t that right, Dan Huang?”
Dan Huang responded with a “Meow~.”
Qin Yizhi said, “…You two are destined.”
It hadn’t made that sound when it first arrived, but now it had become quite the vocal cat.
Xie Qi was very happy, but after being informed by Qin Yizhi that they would be going to the Qin family’s old house in a few days, he became visibly silent.
He hadn’t been to the Qin family’s so-called old house for so long, and now he was suddenly going there.
It was not that he was afraid… well, he did feel a little uneasy.
Qin Yizhi comforted him, “Don’t worry, just follow me.”
Xie Qi replied, “Well, I’m not worried.”
He then asked, “Can Dan Huang enter the bedroom?”
Qin Yizhi replied, “No, it can only stay on the first floor. It can’t go upstairs.”
This felt a lot like asking one’s parents to keep a cat.
Xie Qi felt a little helpless about this but understood that it was Qin Yizhi’s home, and he had to ask for permission to keep a cat. He asked, “How should I take care of it?”
Qin Yizhi answered, “You don’t need to take care of it. I’ve hired three maids to handle its food and daily needs. When the time comes, you can take it to school, and Yucheng will take care of it.”
Xie Qi said, “…That’s a bit excessive. I can take care of it myself. Otherwise, the relationship between the child and the parents might not be good.”
He lowered his head, held the cat up, and asked, “Do you think Dad is right?”
Qin Yizhi paused, frowned slightly, and asked in a low tone, “You are Dad; what am I?”
Xie Qi said seriously, “I took this title first, so I can only leave you with the title of Mother.”
Qin Yizhi replied seriously, “I don’t want that title.”
Xie Qi asked, “What should we do?”
Xie Qi thought for a while and then said to Dan Huang, “In that case, you are the child’s father.”
Dan Huang responded with a “Meow!”
Xie Qi added, “Our baby acknowledged that you are its father.”
Qin Yizhi responded with, “Hm.”
Looking at it this way, it really did look like a family of three.
However, Qin Yizhi’s eyes fell on the cat, hoping it wouldn’t be too obedient.
But he hoped it could be a little better and a little more manageable.
Note
Funny fact: in the ancient time of China, there was a very strict regulation regarding owning a cat. The family must undergo some inspection, a horoscope calculation to match and if they were lucky enough to match it, the family must send betrothal gift just like marrying a bride.
