Hunter X Hunter: Tombbound Power

Chapter 306: 306: Specialized in Dispelling Resentment

When the Undead Bone Spear fell into Ronnel's hands and was successfully repaired, the dormant resentment within began to stir.

Years of accumulated anguish and rage had seeped into the spear, binding themselves to its very essence. These resentments, left behind by the Bone Demon Clan's strongest warriors, had grown into an unrelenting curse.

Anyone outside the Bone Demon Clan attempting to wield the weapon would be consumed by these resentments, losing their sanity in the process. To use the spear effectively, one must either purge the curse entirely or possess extraordinary control to resist its influence during combat.

The former would require the best Nen exorcists from across the Six Continents, demanding a steep price in both effort and resources. The latter, however, demanded unerring focus—a slip during battle would be fatal.

For most, the cursed spear was a death sentence: either they perished trying to harness its power or abandoned it altogether, locking it away as a regretful relic.

But for Ronnel, the spear's curse presented no such challenge.

After all, his expertise lay in dispelling curses and purging malevolent Nen. To him, the resentment lingering in ancient graves and cemeteries across the world was far more menacing than anything this spear could muster.

Seated cross-legged on the floor, Ronnel let out a steady breath. Releasing his grip, he allowed the Undead Bone Spear to hover before him, suspended by Nen. Slowly, black tendrils began to seep from the spear, accompanied by a chilling, otherworldly aura. Ancient, hoarse cries of anguish echoed faintly in the room.

The sorrowful roars carried the pain and fury of the Bone Demon Clan's fallen warriors.

Ronnel's sharp eyes locked onto the spear as he closed his own, channeling his Nen towards it.

Sensing the imminent threat, the black tendrils recoiled, hissing and writhing. Red veins pulsated along the weapon's shaft, as though it had come alive.

A surge of malevolent Nen exploded from the spear, forcing Ronnel back a step. The spear trembled violently before twisting and splitting apart. Gray energy spilled forth, attempting to escape his grasp.

"Hmph, as expected. This spear's curse runs deeper than just lingering resentment."

Ronnel's lips curled into a smirk. He had suspected something more sinister was at play, which was why he hadn't immediately purged the curse outright. His instincts had been correct.

With a decisive thought, Ronnel unleashed a web of Nen threads, ensnaring the spear. The weapon struggled as if trapped in quicksand, its resistance futile against his overwhelming control.

"This isn't normal resentment. The Undead Bone Spear is too...aware. No mere curse should possess this level of consciousness."

Ronnel's voice dropped, his tone sharp. "A weapon spirit? Impossible. Such things don't exist in this world. So, who are you, really? Could it be...the Bone King of the Undead Clan?"

The spear froze mid-struggle. A faint buzzing noise echoed as its resistance ceased entirely.

Moments later, a deep, hoarse voice emanated from the spear, reverberating through the room.

"How did you know it was me?"

As the voice spoke, black mist spilled from the spear, coalescing into a humanoid figure. A skeletal form emerged—its skull crowned with jagged bone spines, its eyes burning with faint, crimson embers.

It was unmistakably the legendary Bone King.

"You were too obvious," Ronnel said calmly, rising to his feet. "The curse on this spear is designed to erode a user's mind, but your attack was far too deliberate. You gathered the resentment and focused it entirely on me, almost as if it were guided by intent."

He crossed his arms, his gaze unwavering. "Such precision suggests a conscious will at work. And given this spear contains the essence of your clan's strongest warriors, it wasn't hard to imagine you'd left a part of yourself behind."

Ronnel's smirk widened. "Still, I expected only fragmented thoughts or residual emotion, not a fully conscious spirit. Judging by your voice, you seem...remarkably intact."

Overlord's crimson eyes burned brighter, but he remained silent, observing Ronnel.

The tension in the room grew thick, each moment stretching into eternity.

Finally, the Bone King spoke, his voice low and measured. "And now that you've discovered my secret...what will you do?"
