Hunter X Hunter, Reborn as a Kuruta Tribesmen

Chapter 5: Chapter 5

---

The sound of the broken cup made the clan leader quickly rush toward Rocky's room. He pushed the door open, his voice filled with concern. "What's wrong? I heard a sound just now. Did you break something?"

But as he approached Rocky and saw the shattered cup on the table, his eyes widened in disbelief. The flower-shaped, white, transparent crystals—looking like thorns tangled together—glistened among the spilled water.

The chief's mouth dropped open, and he stared at the scene in amazement. "You... You've reached this level with your Water-Seeing Style already?"

Rocky nodded calmly. "Ah, it was almost done yesterday, but I didn't expect the cup to break!"

The chief stood there, speechless. Three days—just three days.

From a few small crystals to this—an enormous crystal forming right before his eyes. The speed of Rocky's progress... it was almost unreal.

"How long did it take you to do this?" the chief finally asked, his voice strained.

It would have been understandable if Rocky had formed such a large crystal over a long period of time, but this?

Rocky answered without hesitation. "It didn't take long. Less than a minute."

The clan leader froze, his mind struggling to process this. If Rocky had said it took longer, even a little longer, the chief might have accepted it. After all, with persistence and intensity, it would have been reasonable to expect such progress over time.

But *less than a minute?* This was beyond his comprehension.

After a moment, the chief gathered himself and took out another water cup, filled it, and placed it in front of Rocky. "Try it again. Do it in front of me."

Rocky nodded and began the Water-Seeing Style once more.

The moment Rocky released his Nen, the chief felt his heart race, eyes wide with surprise. *What powerful Nen!*

*In just three days, it's increased this much?* Rocky's Nen was already at a level that would normally take a year for ordinary Nen users to reach. Was this... a genius?

It was impossible to grasp using ordinary logic.

*Bang!*

The cup shattered again, but this time the crystal formed was even larger than before.

The chief sighed deeply, a mix of awe and humility in his voice. *This is the gap between people.*

It took him more than half a year of practice to reach this level with the Water-Seeing Style. And here was this child, in just three days...

*I feel like my own talent, which I once thought was impressive, is nothing compared to his. It's like garbage.*

"Well, not bad!" the chief said, though his voice was filled with admiration. "You completed what I asked in just three days. You truly are talented with Nen!"

Rocky frowned slightly. *Isn't my talent top-tier? Didn't the modification work?*

This can only be considered "good"?

Maybe I've been lazy. I haven't used all my time for practice, so maybe my talent hasn't been fully realized yet?

He couldn't help but wonder.

"Okay, you can go out and play now. I'll teach you something new tomorrow."

The chief's words hung in the air, but Rocky didn't share his enthusiasm for playtime. Play? No, not now. He didn't have time for that.

Instead, a new idea began to form in Rocky's mind. *In just three days, I've improved this much. What will happen if I keep practicing for a while longer?*

Could there be a chance to grow stronger before the tribe's extinction, maybe even save the Kuruta Tribe?

If possible, of course, he would do everything he could to save the tribe. But if it was impossible, he would focus on saving himself first.

The feeling of constant improvement, the thrill of growing stronger—it was something Rocky couldn't ignore. It was addictive, and it made him eager to push himself even further.

---

"Grandpa, by the way, Kurapika is still in the tribe!"

The tribe leader nodded in acknowledgment, his voice steady. "Of course. If the people of the Kuruta tribe aren't here, they must be somewhere else."

*That's good!*

Although Rocky didn't know the full details of the Kuruta tribe's destruction, he remembered that it had happened after Kurapika left.

Rocky couldn't quite recall why Kurapika left in the first place, but even that fragment of memory was enough for him. As long as Kurapika remained in the tribe, he would be safe.

If Kurapika had already left, it would mean that the tribe's downfall was near.

It seemed like there was still some time before that happened, though it was hard to say exactly how long.

It didn't matter where Rocky lived now, as long as he was with the tribe leader. If Kurapika did leave the Kuruta tribe, he would need the chief's consent to do so. There was no need to worry about Kurapika slipping away unnoticed.

"Tribe leader, I don't want to go out and play. I want to practice. Come on, teach me more!"

The tribe leader was a little confused at first. "Didn't you just ask about Kurapika? Weren't you planning on going to play with him?"

Rocky shook his head fervently. "No, no, I want to practice first! Practicing is way too interesting!"

The chief paused, taken aback. This child was indeed unusual. But since Rocky had taken the initiative to ask, the tribe leader couldn't help but feel pleased. He was eager to see just how far Rocky could go if he took his training seriously.

"Okay then," the chief said, smiling. "Since you've completed the basic practice, let's move on to something more advanced!"

He paused for a moment before continuing. "You are a Conjurer, so let's start practicing the system for Conjurers!"

*System practice for Conjurers?*

Rocky nodded thoughtfully. He had a general idea of what each Nen category entailed. Enhancers were the ones who could smash rocks with their strength, Transmuters used their minds to transform objects while in motion, and Emitters had the ability to launch powerful mind bullets!

These were the categories that had appeared in the original teachings.

The other systems hadn't been explored in detail, so Rocky was curious to learn more about the Conjurer system in particular.

"What's the practice of a Conjurer like?" Rocky couldn't help but ask, his curiosity piqued.

The clan leader smiled warmly and led him to an open space outside the house, where several large cups of water were waiting—much larger than the ones they used before.

"Being a Conjurer means your focus is on materializing your thoughts," the clan leader began, placing the cups down carefully.

"The first thing you need to do is make a large enough object appear in the water. From what I can see, you've already made a crystal. So, aim for crystallization this time."

Rocky eyed the bowl in front of him—it was about the size of a basketball. Materializing a crystal large enough to fill this bowl didn't seem easy at all.

"Once you can do that, the next step is to make as many independent crystals as you can inside the bowl, making sure they don't connect to one another."

"And then, for the third step, you'll pour out the water and start all over again."

The clan leader finished with a grin. "If you can do all that, you'll be well on your way to mastering Manipulation."

Rocky's eyes brightened. *That sounds pretty cool!*

This training was all about strengthening his foundation, improving his control, and then refining everything as he progressed.

Without water, it would be harder to control the air, and materializing objects would be even tougher.

*Okay, I think I get it now.* Rocky took a deep breath, ready for the challenge.

"Feeling confident?" the clan leader asked, noticing the spark in Rocky's eyes.

Rocky nodded firmly. "Let's do this."

The clan leader chuckled, amused by Rocky's determination. "Alright, let's see what you can do."

As he watched Rocky, the clan leader stroked his beard thoughtfully. Training a Conjurer usually took at least a year or two, even for a genius. But the patriarch was eager to see just how quickly Rocky could catch on.

He had already spoken about the process in one go, curious to see if this young boy would surprise him.
