Hunter X Hunter: I Got Stronger After I Died

Chapter 52: More or Less

The red "X" symbol on the back of his hand.

This was the Sword of Execution from the Death Node.

Only by killing Feitan within the time limit would this glaring red mark disappear.

Everything Moro knew about the Death Node came from the information he could extract from the red symbol.

The extraction process was simple—he only had to focus his attention on the red symbol, and the related information would transfer into his mind as if downloaded into a computer.

However, before the information was delivered, he had to relive a painfully vivid death replay.

Before considering any new abilities, or even drawing inspiration from Killua's Godspeed, Moro had never thought of using the X itself.

But now, Moro realized he could potentially use the death replay as a conceptual resource for crafting a new ability.

Thinking back, the eerie sensation he felt while narrowly dodging a sniper's bullet...

It felt like a death warning—a premonition that alerted him to incoming danger.

Now, Moro's goal was to replicate that indescribable sensation and amplify it into a clear, useful ability.

It sounded far-fetched, like something out of a dream, but he believed it was achievable.

After all, the Nen system was one filled with infinite possibilities.

Take, for example, Cheedle's Instant Ten Seconds or Melody's Love Serenade—both extraordinary abilities born from the same framework.

Moro focused his attention on the red symbol.

In an instant—

His consciousness plunged into a spinning vortex, trembling briefly before stabilizing.

For the third time, Feitan's shadow loomed before his eyes.

The distorted form, the lightning-fast movements, the icy, predatory gaze filled with boundless killing intent, and the deadly tip of his slender sword...

Before he could fully take in the scene, the blade slashed across his face.

The sensation of being cut open, the suffocating grip of death—it all came flooding back.

The blackness engulfed him.

Moro's consciousness returned to reality. Unconsciously, he raised a hand to cover his face, his pupils trembling slightly.

The replay pulled him back into death—completely and utterly.

Thankfully, Feitan's blade was fast. After the strike, there wasn't much pain to endure.

The real torment was the vividness of the replay, which paradoxically allowed Moro to grasp the faint but palpable sensation of death's warning.

"Again..."

Moro steadied his breathing and activated the red mark once more.

His mind plunged back into the replay.

The shadow of Feitan loomed.

The cold gleam of his sword.

Blackness.

Back in reality, Moro opened his eyes.

Again.

The cycle repeated.

Outside the cave, a sudden thunderclap echoed across the landscape, and rain began to pour in torrents.

The sound of the storm raged outside, but Moro was unfazed.

Through repeated death replays, he gradually recaptured that faint, elusive sensation—the intuitive premonition of death.

In turn, Feitan's image grew even more detestable in his mind.

If not for his lack of strength, Moro would have loved nothing more than to hunt him down right now.

Time passed.

By the time the storm had subsided and the first rays of sunlight spilled into the cave, Moro had stopped the replays.

He'd lost count of how many times he had done it.

But the results were clear:

He'd finally grasped the essence of death itself.

Still, mere premonition wasn't enough.

This was only the foundation—he needed more to build upon it.

Although the glowing dandelion ability made creating a new skill simpler, Moro wasn't content with something basic.

He needed an ability that could target Feitan specifically while also aligning with his own Nen affinity.

"Premonition, evasion, restraint, counterattack... and compatibility with my Nen type."

Moro rested his chin on his hand, reflecting on everything he had experienced in this world.

In the cutthroat antique business, he'd learned to read people and uncover lies.

Through Nen training, he'd realized the importance of resource management.

On the fighting stage at the Sky Arena, he'd experienced the thrill of narrowly avoiding an opponent's attack.

And in battle after battle, he'd come to understand the value of timing and effective strikes.

"Let's start with..."

Moro summoned the glowing dandelion and embedded the concept of premonition into its framework.

The dandelion shimmered briefly.

Premonition would serve as the foundation for enhancing his ability to evade attacks, which in turn would pave the way for an eventual restraint ability.

But to maximize the ability's effectiveness, Moro needed to incorporate a restriction that demonstrated his commitment.

For example, he could sacrifice or weaken his defense, using the mantra "Death is my companion" as the restriction to gain greater advantages.

Once evasion was handled, the next step would be the restraint ability.

But the purpose of restraint wasn't simply to slow Feitan down—it was to ensure Feitan couldn't escape.

Initially, Moro had considered creating a Nen space, but he quickly dismissed the idea.

A Nen space that relied on Emission was mostly suited for mobility rather than combat.

It couldn't restrict an opponent's movements or enforce penalties like the Conjuration-based Nen spaces used by specialists.

For example, if he were a Specialist, he could create a space similar to Obito's ability from Naruto:

Intangibility for defense and a pocket dimension for offense.

But Moro was an Emitter, not a Specialist.

After discarding the idea of a Nen space, he thought about developing a high-speed mobility skill using Emission Nen.

However, such a skill would require exceptional reflexes, mental processing, and body coordination to match the speed.

Without these attributes, moving at high speed would only ensure he ran straight into the enemy's blade.

It was a feasible ability, but not something Moro could achieve in his current state.

For now, he needed to focus on leveraging his existing resources to achieve his immediate goal: killing Feitan.

This led him to reconsider the restraint ability from a different angle.

What was the purpose of restraint?

To deliver a decisive blow.

Once again, Moro's thoughts circled back to targeted attacks.

The foundation and framework of his new ability were taking shape.

Sacrificing defensive strength would unlock an ultra-fast reactionary evasion system in the form of energy rings.

Once evasion succeeded, he could follow up with targeted counterattacks by marking enemies with tracking stars.

With this framework in mind, Moro let out a sigh of relief.

His glowing dandelion ability wouldn't consume his Nen capacity, meaning he could still develop additional abilities in the future.

The framework for this one?

More or less complete.
