Chapter 334: Noldrei: Old Yang is a Good Man, But a Terrible Subordinate
Naturally, Noldrei had no idea that Kiana had encountered the very beings he desired right after he left—be it the Herrscher or the Hyperion wandering the Sea of Quanta.
His Majesty the Emperor had missed out on all of them. It was like pulling on a gacha banner; no matter how hard you tried, you weren't guaranteed to get what you really wanted.
Even His Majesty the Emperor, without using his cheat engine, still couldn't pull the top-tier character he wanted.
After emerging with Kevin, the first person Noldrei saw was a listless Dr. Einstein. She looked as though she had suffered some form of inhuman abuse.
Her pale face and the massive dark circles under her eyes made Noldrei worry.
"Einstein, what happened to you? How many days has it been since you slept?"
Einstein truthfully recounted the situation, and it was all thanks to her dear best friend, Tesla.
"Chairman, please, I'm begging you, take Tesla away. I can't stand her anymore. She's losing control of her temper more and more, and no one can reason with her. I never thought gaining new abilities would turn Tesla into this kind of person! I'm so disappointed!"
Einstein didn't hold back, tattling on Tesla to Noldrei. Did he expect her to explain that Tesla's recent mood swings were getting a little out of control? What other emotions could it be? Just the pent-up frustration from working for so long without any release, of course.
But Noldrei wasn't concerned about Tesla's problems, even though her current state was largely his responsibility. Under Noldrei's touch, Tesla had become increasingly unable to satisfy her own repressed sexual needs.
It was a good thing he had only used it on Kiana once. Otherwise, his own Crown Princess would have been tamed by her Emperor.
"Don't worry, I'll go and 'educate' her properly when I get back."
Noldrei figured Tesla was probably throwing another tantrum. He would have to "educate" her thoroughly before he left with Kevin for that Elysian Realm place.
"I'm relieved to hear you say that."
Einstein thought Noldrei was a real weirdo. Wasn't he worried that one day Tesla would snap and hold a massive orgy, keeping a harem of boy toys? After being messed with like this, Tesla's desires could certainly no longer be measured by normal human standards.
Of course, she had no idea that Noldrei had even suggested castration as a cure for Tesla. That day, Academy City was almost torn apart by a major schism.
"By the way, I didn't see Yang when I came out. Where did he go? I was planning on taking him to see the new ruins."
Noldrei had only just remembered Old Yang. Now that he was back on Earth, he no longer had to worry about whether Old Yang was "making trouble."
At the mention of the Anti-Entropy Sovereign, Einstein's expression became troubled again. She had no choice but to explain, "The Sovereign went to North America to help suppress the unrest in the United States."
'What's this? Isn't that Old Yang's homeland? Why is he suppressing his own people? Is suppressing one's own people a common disease among all primitive rulers?'
Noldrei couldn't understand it. His method of governance was typical of someone from a more advanced era: promoting development through struggle. If development wasn't fast enough, it meant the struggle wasn't intense enough.
This was a unique situation for a genetic civilization trying to stimulate individual genetic development. What Noldrei needed was for the human spirit to have a breakthrough moment, to gain further control over the new changes in their own genetic information.
But the suppression strategy that people usually understood was to promote development through stability. This was a necessary choice for industrial production, which required a stable order. After all, industrial development needed a sufficiently stable platform for research and learning.
If Noldrei remembered correctly, Old Yang's homeland wasn't that type of place. Their governance was based on being the world's financial center, with a national welfare policy as a safety net.
In terms of overall stability, it was even worse than the Far East government, but its advantage lay in its fierce competition and its important position as a hub for global circulation.
"What is he suppressing?"
This was what Noldrei didn't understand. In his eyes, there was no need to suppress anything in North America.
What he needed was a chaotic North America, which would allow Academy City's biotechnology to continuously flow out and trigger a new wave of human development.
'The Sovereign of Anti-Entropy must have betrayed me again!'
Noldrei's expression immediately turned grim.
"He went to suppress the voices speaking out against Academy City. He even used his Herrscher abilities to change their minds and make them much more peaceful."
Einstein really didn't know what to say. She hadn't expected Old Yang to be so radical. Wasn't this the result Noldrei had been manipulating things toward from behind the scenes?
The whole point of the head of Academy City's plan was to intensify the conflict both inside and outside the city.
"What the..."
Bronya was stunned. She had never seen the Sovereign act so... sycophantic. In little Bronya's eyes, this was the act of a great, loyal minister working tirelessly for Academy City's diplomacy!
"Damn it! I knew that old geezer Yang had betrayed me again! If it weren't for the fact that he brought so much talent to Academy City, I would have suppressed him at the bottom of the deep sea long ago."
Noldrei was furious. He was waiting for the humans inside and outside Academy City to start fighting. How else was he supposed to continue promoting the construction of a genetic information society?
Without this internal and external conflict, how could he make people realize the power of these new humans and get them to acknowledge and learn from them?
Old Yang's actions had completely robbed Noldrei of the moral high ground to push Academy City to unleash an ethical shockwave on the outside world.
To this end, Old Yang had even used his Herrscher abilities to twist people's consciousness.
It was clear that the Anti-Entropy Sovereign was willing to risk everything to ease the conflicts of the old world and deny Noldrei any opportunity to intervene. He had even abandoned the moral freedom he usually cared about most.
"What? The Sovereign is a traitor?!"
Little Bronya was even more shocked after hearing His Majesty the Emperor's judgment. She racked her brain but couldn't understand how the Sovereign, who was fighting so hard for Academy City, had become a traitor.
'If the Sovereign is a traitor, then what is Otto? The world of you adults is too filthy. No, I can't let Seele be corrupted by these bad guys.'
Little Bronya was still too young. The emperor in her eyes and the emperor in the eyes of the man from the future were already two different things.
"Fine, if he wants to protect those people in North America, let him. I suspect Otto will guide those in Europe to start a 'crusade' against the Far East. Academy City needs more 'conflict.' Dragging this on will only make the people of Academy City see outsiders as ants, or as non-human species."
Noldrei spoke with great solemnity. He hoped Einstein would convey his words to Old Yang, hoping the old man could "see the error of his ways" sooner rather than later.
Opening up sooner was better than opening up later. For Academy City, unleashing the pent-up flood would further allow the world to accept his vision for the future of humanity.
