Honkai: Husband-Chasing Crematorium

Chapter 7: Chapter 7: The Pact

Kira turned to gauge Li Mo's reaction.

To her surprise, Li Mo remained indifferent throughout, his expression completely unchanged. His eyes, his posture—nothing moved. It was as if he wasn't looking at a nauseatingly gory nightmare but rather something as mundane as a scenic view.

For a fleeting moment, Kira felt as if the man standing beside her wasn't alive at all—only a corpse could remain so unaffected by the horrors outside.

Suddenly, Li Mo spoke.

"Don't worry about them. Go back deeper into the auditorium. Nothing will happen."

"What?" Kira snapped, utterly baffled. "What do you mean, 'nothing will happen'? Can't you see those filthy things are charging straight for us?"

"You're spouting nonsense! What, are we just supposed to stand here and watch those disgusting heads roll into the auditorium? Forget it. Step back. Even if I have to fight them alone, I'll protect everyone. I'm strong enough."

Kira unleashed her Honkai energy, letting it flow into her broken sword to temporarily mend its blade.

Li Mo, however, shook his head calmly. "They won't get in. If you rush out now, you'll die."

"Ghosts can't be killed. If you really had a solution, we wouldn't be hiding in this place together in the first place."

Kira retorted, sticking out her tongue in defiance. "Blah, blah, blah. Then tell me this: how are you so sure they won't come in?"

Li Mo responded matter-of-factly, "Based on what you said earlier, you arrived at St. Freya Academy this morning or afternoon. Then, you encountered a few ghosts in the classroom building, fought them off, and retreated here. Afterwards, the ghosts stopped attacking and left."

Kira hesitated. "That's true, but now these heads are clearly targeting us in the auditorium. They won't leave. Honestly, with this many… I can't hold them off alone."

"I can assure you," Li Mo replied firmly, "this academy changes entirely after 7 PM. At night, St. Freya becomes a living hell. Malevolent ghosts awaken, and anomalous phenomena emerge everywhere."

"During this time, the behavior of these ghost changes. Earlier today, the fact that you weren't attacked after entering the auditorium means it somehow blocked their perception or severed their connection to you."

"But now, they've detected us. This suggests that the auditorium has undergone some change tonight—something we haven't noticed yet."

"The key to breaking this situation lies inside the auditorium, not with the heads outside."

"Even if we summoned the entire Schicksal, forcing a direct confrontation would only bury us here. To survive, we must first understand what's wrong with the auditorium."

Kira bit her lip, clenched her fist, and then let it relax. Finally, she withdrew her Honkai energy.

As much as she hated to admit it, Li Mo was right. These were enemies that couldn't be killed or restrained. Even Schicksal would be helpless against them.

The key to survival lay in solving the mystery of the auditorium, not fighting the heads outside.

"At their current speed, they'll reach the auditorium in three minutes. Do you have a solution?" Shigure asked urgently.

She desperately hoped Li Mo would give her an affirmative answer, but he disappointed her.

Li Mo shook his head. "No. If it comes to that, I'll kill myself."

"Kill yourself?" Kira was stunned. Could his mind really be that fragile? He didn't look the type…

Ignoring her confusion, Li Mo pulled out a silver coin and spoke seriously: "Three minutes isn't enough. This coin should buy us ten minutes."

[A coin imbued with anomalous rule: toss it, and the ghost will always pick it up.]

With that, Li Mo handed the coin to Kira. "You're stronger than me. Throw it, but don't throw it too far. Aim for about 100 meters behind the first head."

"Huh? Throw a coin?" Kira didn't understand, but she followed his instructions, tossing the coin precisely where he told her. For an A-rank valkyrie borderlining S-rank, it was an easy task.

Li Mo nodded in satisfaction. If it was thrown too close, it wouldn't buy enough time. Too far, and the ghosts wouldn't notice it.

The coin traced a perfect arc through the air and landed directly in the eye socket of one of the heads.

Instantly, the ground stopped shaking.

"It… it stopped?" Kira stared in disbelief as the tide of heads halted.

But the stillness didn't last long. In the next moment, all the heads lunged towards the one holding the coin, biting and tearing at it…

Because these head ghosts had no hands, they could only "pick up" the coin by mouth.

"You're kidding me! You had something like this all along? Why didn't you use it earlier?" Kira exclaimed with joy.

She turned to celebrate with Li Mo, only to see an expression of heartache on his face. The fearless man who hadn't even blinked at the grotesque scene now looked utterly devastated.

"My coin… my coin…" Li Mo muttered softly.

Kira's mouth twitched. Clearly, he only had one coin. Judging by his expression, it was precious to him.

That coin was an item Li Mo had obtained after barely surviving an anomalous incident in another world. It had saved his life several times.

Now that it had been thrown into the tide of heads, the rule imbued in the coin would temporarily distract the ghosts. But the overwhelming force of the heads would eventually erase the coin's anomalous power, reducing it to an ordinary trinket.

"Let's go. The coin won't hold them for long. We need to restore the auditorium's shielding ability immediately."

"I'll focus entirely on finding the solution. During that time, you have to protect me," Li Mo instructed Kira firmly.

Kira didn't act prideful. Instead, she replied with determination, "Alright, I promise."

"As long as I'm alive, I won't let those heads get near you."

Li Mo nodded casually. "Thanks."

In an instant, he became serious and focused again.

Kira tightened her grip on her sword, silently vowing to protect Li Mo.

She couldn't save everyone, but maybe he could.

That thought gave her strength.

"Xiao You!"

Li Mo called out loudly as he entered the auditorium. Shaori immediately ran out from the crowd to stand before him.

"Brother, I'm here!" she replied nervously.

Li Mo pointed to the black coffin and instructed, "Test the temperature near the coffin, the funeral portrait, and the incense."

"Brother, I…"

"What is it?" Li Mo asked, puzzled.

Shaori bit her lip and mustered her courage to say, "Brother, when you and that sister went to the door earlier, I already measured it. Only the area near the portrait showed a drop in temperature."

The portrait?

Li Mo was surprised. It wasn't the black coffin? Logically, the ominous, foreboding coffin seemed far more likely to be the source of the anomalous disturbance.

But since the thermometer had given a clear reading, Li Mo didn't hesitate further. He patted Shaori's head absentmindedly.
