Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Wind Style – Spiral Shuriken
"Kill me, Naruto."
At this moment, Haku collapsed to the ground, completely drained and unable to stand.
Uzumaki Naruto, holding the massive executioner's blade in his hand, stood over him coldly.
"Haku, if I wanted to kill you," Naruto said in a calm yet stern voice, "I wouldn't have used the back of the blade to knock you away just now."
"You… Naruto…" Haku muttered in disbelief.
Naruto turned away and began walking toward Zabuza's direction. There was no longer any need for Zabuza to seek him out—Naruto was now approaching him directly.
With Haku incapacitated, the Ice Mirror Technique that had trapped Sasuke was released. The mirrors vanished, and Sasuke collapsed to the ground, gasping for breath. His body resembled that of a porcupine, riddled with senbon needles. Still, these injuries weren't life-threatening for a ninja.
Zabuza, who had been fighting Kakashi fiercely just moments ago, noticed Naruto moving toward him. His eyes narrowed.
Seeing Naruto take the initiative to confront him, Zabuza didn't hesitate. He rushed forward, gripping his massive blade tightly.
"Clang!"
The clash of steel rang out. A heartbeat later, the executioner's blade in Zabuza's hand shattered in half—once again!
Naruto didn't stop. With a swift motion, he raised his leg and delivered a devastating kick, sending Zabuza flying back dozens of meters.
"Zabuza, take Haku and leave the Land of Waves," Naruto said loudly and clearly.
His voice echoed across the bridge. Everyone heard him—his allies and enemies alike.
Haku, lying on the ground, looked stunned. He hadn't expected Naruto to let them go a second time.
"You Konoha brats… you don't understand what it means to be a ninja at all!" Zabuza snarled, slowly getting up from the ground, his grip tight around the broken sword.
He vanished into the mist, using the Hidden Mist Technique to conceal himself.
But Naruto wasn't fazed. He could see right through the fog—thanks to the malicious sensing abilities granted by the Nine-Tails within him.
The mist meant nothing.
"Hmph," came the deep, rumbling voice of the Nine-Tails from within Naruto. "You're still too soft, Naruto. If it were me, I'd have crushed them both with a slap. What's the point in showing mercy?"
Naruto ignored the comment.
"Zabuza," he said calmly, "put aside your foolish ideals. If you truly care about the future of the Hidden Mist, then live. Only by surviving can you help change it."
Zabuza paused, shocked by Naruto's words.
Could it really be that the ninja philosophy he had held so dear—one where tools had no feelings and loyalty was absolute—was flawed?
Kakashi stepped forward. "Naruto is right. If you truly want to do something for Kirigakure, then you must live. It's the only way."
"Kakashi…" Zabuza muttered.
For the first time, his deeply ingrained ideals began to waver.
He looked over at Haku. Despite being injured and exhausted, Haku's eyes never left Zabuza—full of worry, full of care.
Naruto took a step forward, speaking again. "Haku was ready to die for you. Are you really going to let him die for a philosophy that has no meaning?"
Raising one hand toward the sky, Naruto began forming chakra.
A familiar blue sphere—Rasengan—quickly condensed in his palm. But this time, something was different.
Around the spinning blue core, faint traces of white chakra began to materialize.
The chakra grew, spiraling wildly and shaping itself into something new—something never seen before.
A shuriken-shaped Rasengan was forming!
This wasn't an ordinary technique.
"This… this is…!" murmured those present.
In the heavens, where the otherworldly viewing screen projected this scene for all to witness:
Namikaze Minato: "It's the Wind Style: Rasenshuriken!"
Jiraiya: "I never imagined Naruto would master something like that. Minato, that's the jutsu you never completed in your lifetime!"
Senju Tobirama: "That's not just an A-rank jutsu… That's an S-rank technique! It's a terrifying fusion of Rasengan and Wind Style chakra transformation. Even a Jōnin like Kakashi might not survive a direct hit."
Kakashi, watching the screen, felt his expression darken.
Kakashi: "Second Hokage, you're giving me too much credit..."
Meanwhile, Naruto stared at his own hand.
"Um… wait… why can he form the Rasengan with one hand?" he blurted out, baffled.
Minato chuckled. "Naruto, the Rasengan is meant to be performed one-handed."
"..." Naruto was speechless.
"A Rasengan without rubbing it between your hands is like eating instant noodles without the seasoning packet… It has no soul!"
Back on the bridge, the Rasenshuriken released an immense hurricane of chakra, completely dispelling the mist Zabuza had summoned.
"Zabuza, I'm not here to preach," Naruto said firmly. "But if you keep fighting, you know what the outcome will be."
Zabuza looked up and saw the spinning Rasenshuriken crackling in Naruto's hand.
The whirling chakra tore through the air, producing a shrill, high-pitched screech.
Realizing the danger, Zabuza backed off. He walked over to Haku and gently picked him up.
"Someday, Naruto," Zabuza said, glancing back. "We'll meet again."
---
In the viewing world:
Terumi Mei: "So… Zabuza and Haku didn't die in that world?"
Chojuro: "That's wonderful! They can witness what our Mizukage-sama has done to reform the Hidden Mist!"
Haku: "Does that mean… I can stay by Zabuza's side in that world? That's… that's amazing!"
Zabuza: "Even Kakashi chose to go against his duty as a ninja?"
Kakashi: "Hmph. That was just another version of me. But… I would have done the same."
Though he claimed otherwise, Kakashi understood.
He was no longer the same man who once lived in the shadow of his father's death, Konoha's White Fang.
He had changed—thanks to Rin.

Orochimaru: "How touching. But let me pose a question: Why did Naruto spare Zabuza, who tried to kill him twice, yet later ruthlessly turns against the Konoha high command?"
Sarutobi Hiruzen: "Orochimaru! You're a traitor and always stirring up trouble!"
Orochimaru: "Now, now, Master Hiruzen. How did you know I'm always 'stirring things up'? You think of me too often…"
Sarutobi: "…"
The old Hokage was speechless. Orochimaru's twisted words and sly provocations were as maddening as ever.
He sighed. "Why isn't Danzo here to speak for himself?"
Then he remembered: Danzo had been banned by him.
Utatane Koharu: "Orochimaru, Naruto is still a child. His decisions are impulsive, and I believe he will eventually come to understand the true heart of Konoha."
Mitokado Homura: "Exactly. Everything we've done has been for the village. We inherited the will of the First and Second Hokage!"
At this point, Senju Tobirama turned to them with a puzzled expression.
Although Homura was once one of his guards…
He couldn't recall ever telling him to target the Tailed Beast Jinchūriki or manipulate village politics.
Tobirama had always had one focus: the Uchiha clan. As for the rest?
He couldn't be bothered.
---
Back on the bridge, just after Zabuza and Haku departed, a new group of unwelcome visitors appeared.
At the front stood a short, middle-aged man wearing black sunglasses and leaning on a cane.
"K-Kado!" Dazna shouted in alarm, recognizing the man immediately.
It was Kado—the corrupt businessman who had plunged the Land of Waves into despair.
"Oh? He actually showed up here to die?" Naruto smirked. The previous battle hadn't been nearly enough to satisfy him.
But Kakashi stepped in.
"Don't act rashly, Naruto. Our mission is only to protect Dazna and ensure the bridge is built."
Even Sakura seemed puzzled. "But Kakashi-sensei… isn't Kado a villain?"
Kakashi sighed. "The ninja world is more complicated than you think."
He knew that someone like Kado represented the darker side of the ninja world.
No matter how evil Kado was, powerful ninjas and clans often worked for people like him—because money, influence, and politics dictated many missions.
Even if they wanted to, a single ninja couldn't take down someone like Kado without facing consequences.
Taking action now could trigger diplomatic backlash or lead to Konoha being targeted by Kado's allies.
Orochimaru: "See? This is the true sadness of the ninja world. Everyone knows Kado must die, yet no one dares to kill him! Not even Kakashi!"
Hiruzen: "There are more peaceful ways. If Team 7 completes its mission and brings back intelligence on Kado, Konoha will send proper reinforcements. Kado will have no choice but to back down."
Orochimaru: "How naive. If Konoha sends one ninja, Kado will just hire a stronger one! None of the Five Great Nations fear the Fire Nation anymore!"
Senju Hashirama: "Is that so?"
Uchiha Madara: "I'm not saying I don't believe it… But if anyone here has a problem with Konoha, come out and say it."
Suddenly, the other Kage watching the scene looked away.
Ohnoki: "…"
Fourth Raikage: "…"
Terumi Mei: "…"
Fourth Kazekage Rasa: "…"
Silence.
