Hokage: Immortal, I Open Unlimited Eight Gates

Chapter 35: Eat Your Own Melon?

Two weeks passed quickly, and the ninja school was on vacation.

On the day of the holiday, Nawaki happily found Chiba.

"Nawaki, are you ready? We are leaving tomorrow."

Although Chiba was also excited about leaving the village, he was much calmer than Nawaki.

"Ready. By the way, Nawaki, do you know what our mission is this time?"

"I don't know. Orochimaru-sensei didn't tell me. He said he wouldn't tell me until we get to the mission destination." Nawaki shook his head.

He was also curious about what the mission was. He had asked Orochimaru a few days ago, but Orochimaru wouldn't tell him.

"It doesn't matter, we'll find out when the time comes."

Chiba answered casually.

Although he didn't understand why Orochimaru waited until they arrived at their destination to tell them, he wasn't the type to be overly curious, so he decided not to worry about it.

"Okay, I won't keep you. I'll go back to see if I've missed anything I need to prepare. By the way, Chiba, Teacher Orochimaru told me to gather at the village gate at 7 o'clock tomorrow morning."

Nawaki looked very excited and was practically carrying the wind as he walked.

After Nawaki left, Uchiha Mikoto asked curiously, "Chiba, are you and Nawaki leaving the village to do a mission tomorrow?"

"Yeah, Nawaki's teacher wants to take him to broaden his experience, so I'm just tagging along." Chiba said nonchalantly.

"But aren't we still students at the ninja school? Although we're about to graduate, students aren't supposed to take on missions, right?"

After getting Chiba's approval, Mikoto seemed to be thinking hard.

"Sister Mikoto, sometimes you need to learn to be flexible. Rules are dead, but people are alive."

Chiba wasn't surprised by Mikoto's question. She had always been a well-behaved person, so it was normal for her not to understand.

Chiba was different. A person with the mindset of someone in his thirties, he had seen too many rebellious people in his past life.

Mikoto still didn't fully understand why Chiba wanted to do something that went against the rules. Wouldn't it be better to just wait until graduation to go on missions?

She wanted to continue asking, but Chiba stopped her.

"Okay, Sister Mikoto, don't ask. Even if I tell you, you might not understand. When you grow up, you will."

"Humph, if you don't want me to ask, then I won't." Mikoto pouted, then suddenly thought of something. She looked at Chiba. "Oh, by the way, Chiba, Grandpa asked me to tell you that there will be a clan meeting at the ancestral hall tonight, don't forget."

"Didn't it just happen last month? Why is it happening again this month?" Chiba couldn't help but wonder.

"I don't know, anyway, Grandpa asked me to tell you."

Mikoto shrugged. She was just the messenger and couldn't participate anyway, so why hadn't she opened Sharingan yet?

As for why Chiba could attend the clan meeting without opening Sharingan, it was because of his reputation as a genius. Additionally, Chiba had been suppressing Nawaki since he entered the ninja school.

This made the whole family very proud.

That's why the clan allowed Chiba, a member who hadn't opened Sharingan yet, to attend the clan meeting.

"Okay, I understand. I'll go when the time comes."

A clan meeting was just a clan meeting. It wasn't the first time Chiba had participated. It was just another night of watching his grandfather argue with Uchiha Setsuna, while Uchiha Fugaku, the current clan leader, would step in to mediate.

Evening, Uchiha Shrine

When Chiba arrived, there were already many people in the ancestral hall.

He looked around, and although he didn't recognize most of them, he knew that these people were the pillars of the Uchiha clan.

Just as he was thinking about where to sit, a voice from the corner stopped him.

"Chiba, this way."

Chiba looked to find that the person who called him was Uchiha Fugaku.

Not thinking twice, Chiba walked toward Fugaku.

"Brother Fugaku, why are you here so early?"

Fugaku chuckled, "I had nothing to do, so I came here early."

Then a mysterious smile appeared on Fugaku's face. "Chiba, do you know what will be discussed at this clan meeting?"

"I don't know, and I don't want to know either."

Chiba leaned against the wall, hands behind his head. He was just here to watch the show, and didn't care much for what would be discussed.

Seeing Chiba's indifferent attitude, Fugaku couldn't hold back. "It's boring, forget it. I'll tell you. The content of this clan meeting is related to you."

"Huh?"

Seeing that Chiba wasn't making progress, Fugaku continued, "Chiba, aren't you about to graduate? The clan plans to make you a disciple of Tsunade or Orochimaru."

"Wait, what?"

Chiba was taken aback. He had thought this clan meeting would be the usual bickering, with his grandfather arguing with Uchiha Setsuna, and Fugaku mediating.

But now Fugaku was telling him that it was his turn to be the center of attention.

"No, how could the clan think of something like that? I can understand Tsunade, but Orochimaru?" Chiba asked, confused.

Fugaku didn't hide anything and whispered into Chiba's ear, "Didn't you learn medical Ninjutsu from Tsunade in the past two months? The clan unanimously believes that if you become Tsunade's disciple, then our Uchiha clan will also be tied to the Hokage's lineage."

"In the future, if we help you compete for the Hokage position, you'll have a better chance of winning."

"What about Orochimaru?" Chiba asked.

Seeing that Chiba was asking, Fugaku smiled and said, "The original plan was to choose one of the disciples of the Third Hokage. Tsunade was the first choice, and Orochimaru was just an alternative."

Chiba was curious, "What about Jiraiya? Isn't he also a disciple of Sarutobi Hiruzen?"

"Forget about Jiraiya. He's often not in the village, so it'll be hard to rely on him to build your reputation here."

After hearing Fugaku's explanation, Chiba understood the situation.

As expected, the Uchiha clan, like in the later generations, had always hoped for one of their own to become Hokage.

What was different now was that because of his appearance, the clan had set their sights on him.

This made Chiba a little unhappy. A life decided by others wasn't something he wanted.

But there was still one thing on his mind. "Since you've already decided, why didn't you just tell me directly? Why the meeting?"

"My father and Mr. Inada agreed, but Elder Setsuna has some reservations, so we decided to hold a meeting to discuss it. We also want to hear your opinion, as you're the person involved."

Hearing this, Chiba fell silent and didn't press Fugaku for more details.

But now he felt unhappy. His grandfather, and even Fugaku's father, had made decisions about his life without consulting him first.

Looks like he needed to make his own stance clear.
