Chapter 18: Chapter 18
Sophie sighed, resting her head on her hand. Another problem that cannot be avoided. Today she definitely has to visit the shooting range. There is no telling when she will succeed again when they start involving her in their problems.
The rest of the day passed quietly. Diana tried her best to do her job correctly and Sophie looked at the girl from time to time to see if everything was okay.
Work time was over and everyone started heading home. Diana looked at Sophie with pleading eyes, hoping that they would spend some time together, but the woman shook her head, showing that it was not going to happen today. The girl, making a sad face and curling her lower lip, left the office admitting defeat.
Sophie finished her work quickly and was already leaving the office when she saw Noah walking towards her. Irritation appeared on her face.
Not today, honey.
"Miss Sophie, the boss asks you to come to him now" He delivered the message.
"Not today. I'm not here anymore" She replied firmly, walking past the surprised assistant. She waved him goodbye before disappearing into the elevator.
"I have to look for a quieter job" He whined under his breath, returning to tell his boss the bad news.
Or rather, add oil to the fire. Darell was already very pissed off, knowing what his mother had thought up behind his back. The last thing he needed was to hear that Sophie turned him down.
The woman, who didn't care about all this, returned home, changed into comfortable clothes and went to the car.
On the way to the shooting range, her phone started buzzing. When she got there, she looked at the message from her boss.
The brief "where are you" made her understand that he must have been at her apartment and not found her.
Pissed off, he sent her this life-threatening message. Without thinking, Sophie replied "out of range" and went to relax a bit.
Taking the weapon in her hand, she felt a pleasant thrill that always managed to put her in a good mood. Her relaxing time quickly came to an end when, while shooting, Darell came into range of her gun, almost giving the woman a heart attack. She quickly put the gun up and put it on the table.
"Are you totally crazy?!" Taking off her headphones, she shouted at the madman.
For a millisecond she wanted to shoot him, seeing his confidence that she wouldn't hurt him.
"What do you want?" She crossed her arms angrily on her chest.
"We need to talk" Looking menacingly at the woman, he took her hand and led her out of the shooting range..
"Darell! I can't leave everything like this!" She protested, but the man didn't listen.
"There is no time. Get in" He practically pushed her into his car. She watched with murderous eyes as he got into the car and quickly drove away.
"May I find out what's going on?" She asked, finally calming down a bit. She still wanted to punch him, but since they were still going at quite a high speed, she didn't want to cause an accident.
"I'll explain at Diana's place" He replied briefly, rushing between cars. Hearing that it was something related to Diana, she didn't want to cause any more problems.
Pulling into the parking lot, they both went to the girl's apartment. Darell knocked on the apartment next door, then entered his sister's room.
A moment later, a tall, handsome man with short brown hair and dark brown eyes appeared behind them.
Diana came out of her bedroom, looking at everyone gathered in surprise.
"Pack yourself. We're going away for a few days" Darell ordered. "You too" He turned to the unknown man, who just nodded and left.
Diana didn't ask anything either, she just quickly went to pack her things. Only Sophie stood in the middle of the apartment, waiting patiently for any explanation. Darell took her hand and sat on the sofa with her.
"I'm going away for a few days. You will take care of the company's affairs and report to me what happens while I am gone. Noah will help you. When the 'problem' gets bored and leaves, we'll come back" He said vaguely.
"Just a moment. What is this about? Am I to understand that you are running away from your own mother?" She looked with astonishment at the man's menacing face.
"Listen, Sophie. You don't know her, you don't know what she's capable of and how annoying she can be. This time I don't have time for her games, so I take Diana and Tomas with me. I will continue to deal with everything, but from a distance. Noah knows what to do. He will need you sometimes, so I'm asking you to help him" He placed his hand on hers, sighing heavily. "I'm sorry for leaving you with all this, but it's a one-time thing. Now I need to focus on getting an important investment. I'll try to explain when I get back" He got up from the sofa, seeing Diana ready to go.
Tomas was waiting outside the apartment, packed. As she left, Diana closed the door and the four of them went to the car. Tomas stuffed the bags into the trunk and sat in the backseat next to Diana.
Darell stood next to the passenger door, staring intently at Sophie. He wrapped his arms around her waist tenderly, pulling her to him.
"You'll be fine" He practically whispered, looking at her lips and shining green eyes.
"Take care of yourself" She knew what this would result in, but looking into his black, thirsty eyes, her gaze fell on his lips.
A moment later he sank into the kiss he had wanted for so long. She didn't defend herself. She allowed him a lusciously soft and intense kiss.
As their lips parted and they looked at each other, stimulating their senses, a muffled squeal was heard from the car.
Sophie looked at the backseat where Diana's head was resting on Tomas's lap, squealing in her hands. There was no end to her joy. Tomas pretended not to see anything, looking in the opposite direction.
"Go" Sophie moved away from the car, watching him get in and drive away with reluctance in his eyes. From the rear window you could see Diana waving madly.
Sophie stood in the parking lot for a moment longer, touching her lip with her fingertips. With a serious face, she went to call a taxi and drove back to the shooting range, where her car was left. After all this suddenness, she didn't feel like shooting anymore.
She gathered her things and returned to the apartment. It looked like tomorrow was going to be chaotic and problematic.
Sophie made herself a simple dinner, took a shower and went to bed wondering how hard it could be with their mother. As she slowly dozed off, her phone rang.
"Yes?" She put it to her ear without checking who was calling.
"How was the sweet kiss? Can't you sleep thinking about your loved one?" Diana's excited voice sounded on the phone.
Sophie hung up the call and put the phone on the nearby cabinet with her eyes closed. The cell phone started ringing again. Sophie slowly opened her eyes with silent anger as she looked to see who was calling. This time it was Darell.
"What is it about?" He heard her gentle voice.
"Oh dear Sophie! I miss you already! My heart is bleeding!" Diana's voice could be heard in the distance, laughing at her brother.
"Tomas, calm down the crazy girl before I send her straight to her mother" Darell threatened in a low voice, fed up with her sweet talk that he had to endure all the way.
A smile appeared on Sophie's face. She must have given him a hard time.
"No, Tomas! Sorry! I won't anymore! Ahahaha!" She heard the girl's wild laughter, which disappeared behind the closed door.
"I'm sorry you had to listen to this. Diana can be sometimes…"
"So how do you calm her down?" She purred pleasantly into the phone.
"She is tickled by Tomas until she laughs and gets offended. Then we have peace for at least half a day" He explained.
"Cool…. How will you cope without sleeping?"
"They will have to put up with me like before until I collapse"
Sophie felt sorry to hear how easily he said it.
"Maybe when things get bad for you,... we'll talk on the webcam... Maybe my voice will be enough" She wondered aloud how she could help him, slowly falling asleep.
"I don't know how your voice works, but your body works wonders" He said in a hoarse, sexy voice.
"Ummmhmm" Sophie already had one foot in dreamland.
"Sleep well" He said goodbye, quietly listening for a bit longer her peaceful breath and ended the conversation.
His face turned from dreamy to serious again. He entered the room where Tomas dragged Diana.
The girl sat offended at the end of the bed with a threatening face, her back turned to her torturer. Tomas was writing something on his phone, not paying attention to the angry young woman. They've been through this too many times for it to bother them.
"How long are you going to stay?" Tomas stretched out comfortably on the bed, looking at his friend questioningly.
"Until she returns to France. Tomorrow I'm going to an important meeting and I won't let her distract me with her presence. Sophie and Noah will be fine" He ran his hand through his hair, thinking about the sleeping girl, knowing he wouldn't see her any time soon.
"You know what mom is like. She'll cause trouble for them" Diana grumbled, narrowing her eyes at Tomas lying next to her.
She quickly grabbed a pillow and hit the man over the head with it. Tomas casually took the pillow and put it aside, irritating her even more. She grabbed the other pillow and hit him again. Tomas unwaveringly removed this one as well.
Darell, seeing their sweet banter, rolled his eyes and left for his room. And yes. He felt jealous that he couldn't do this with Sophie.
Whenever he comes back, he won't let her go, no matter how much she protests. Or maybe she won't protest…. After all, she let him kiss her. He slowly ran his finger across his lower lip, remembering the kiss.
