Chapter 11: Chapter 10 - Speaking with The Devil

Hiyama's mansion, Kuoh town –

POV: Hiyama Oreki –

When the light reached its Zenith, a figure appeared; the first thing I noticed were boobs, massive boobs. It was Akeno, the fallen/devil hybrid who had serious daddy issues.

Signaling to Mittelt to have Kala get the tea prepared I said, "Please, sit Ms. Akeno. I have tea being prepared and will be here shortly." Knowing that it will be Akeno, it actually gets so much easier. I can get her on my side simply by convincing her that Baraqiel actually loves her, and that he isn't responsible for her mother's death.

"Why thank you, I insist just call me Akeno" As she moves to sit, her breasts defying gravity with their bounce.

"Then I insist you call me Hiyama." I give her a smile that she returns. "I must admit, I had not expected you to be the one to show up."

"Well, I hope I'm not a disappointment~" she said in her characteristic flirty voice.

"Not at all, it's not every day you get to meet the Priestess of Thunder." She gives a small laugh at that before I continue. "I imagined you of all people would be the least inclined to talk to me since I'm in league with the fallen."

Her face almost falters at the implication of her true origins, before speaking up "Well, considering you were clearly more capable of hurting Kiba, but chose not to, I guess you are breaking the mold."

At that moment, Kala knocked softly and entered with the tea. She didn't look at Akeno, merely placing a cup in front of her and myself. After she placed the pot to the side of the desk she left wordlessly. Akeno was clearly displeased with her presence but said nothing.

"Well, I understand Isaiah's hatred for holy swords. Being subjected to the cruelty of Archbishop Valper Galilei is not a fate I wish on anyone." I take a sip from my cup as I study the reaction of Akeno to the revelation.

"How do you know about that? And how do you know his real name?" She asked with an almost protective tone.

"I just know things…" I said vaguely. "Just like I know all about you and your past."

At that her face fell even more, "What do you know about my past?"

Remaining calm, "I know that your mother was killed. I know it was done because she gave birth to a fallen angel, being you. I know you blame your father for not protecting her, though it only is there to hide your self-hatred." Now she was really getting riled up, as she stood. I needed to get her emotional so my revelations about Baraqiel will hit harder. Once I do that then I have my way into the Rias' good grace.

Akeno suffices to say was furious. Her face had gone beet red, and she breathed more heavily, but she did not speak.

So, I spoke again, "Let me tell you a story about a father. A father who failed his duties to his child and was forced to let them go. You see this father was a hated man, for he was important. Many people in the world sought to hurt him, but they couldn't because of his power. So, instead they looked for other ways to right perceived wrongs. This man just so happened to have a family, a beautiful wife and an equally lovely child, seeing their opportunity they attacked when he was away killing his wife. Before they could kill his daughter, he arrived and dispatched the killers, but he could not save his beloved."

Taking how Akeno was reacting she was half a second from attacking me, but I continued "Worse, the daughter had been traumatized at the death of her mother as any child would. So, she thrashed and screamed at her father, 'Why didn't you protect us? Why weren't you there?' she cried. In some small part she was right, for it was her father's duty to protect. So, she ran not wanting to see her father for another moment. She didn't know where she would go, only that it was away from that failure of a man. Wandering day and night, alone…" At this point I take another sip from my cup then I stood up to meet Akeno's level.

"You no doubt already know this story, for it is yours." I remarked with sympathy. "But you don't know the whole story."

At that Akeno began yelling again, "What else is there to know?! Huh?! My father put my mother in danger and left her there…" She started crying as she trailed off.

"I know that he followed you. Every. Single. Day." I walk around the desk to head to the fireplace. Akeno hesitantly followed, but did not sit with me at the fire. "He knew of his failure, so he believed you wouldn't forgive him. So, he watched over you to protect you as you wandered, hoping that perhaps you would come back. But after a while he realized you wouldn't. So instead, he did something unspeakable. Seeking to give his daughter what little he could, he approached the devil himself."

At this Akeno grimaced up in hurt surprise, but I didn't let her jump to conclusions, "He had heard about how the devil's family treated its' servants, so he hoped that by leading his daughter to them they would provide what he could not. So, they arranged that the devil's little sister would unknowingly happen upon the man's daughter and do what she had always done."

At that I turn to look Akeno directly in the eyes, she responds before I can continue, "She took in a stray…" I nodded.

"It may have been concealed from you and Rias, but your father's love is what led you to the Gremory princess, and it is your father's love that keeps him away from you now…" At the sad revelation I take a napkin from the small table and hand it to Akeno.

As she wipes her face of tears, she sits with me looking at the fire. "I never really wanted him to stay away…" Akeno said dejectedly.

"I know… But he doesn't know that." I give a sad smile to her. "But perhaps he should. Your father hates himself for not protecting your mother. She was your mother, but she was also his love."

"He didn't even cry… He just looked at her body in silence." She said, sobbing again.

"Yet, if there is one thing I know, if there is ever someone who grieves with you, it is your father." I said as I reached over to take her hand into mine. "I imagine I have given you much to think about, perhaps you can think about it. Baraqiel isn't going anywhere."

It takes a while for her to compose herself, but when she does, she gives an empty laugh. "I was supposed to come here and make you an ally, not have a therapy session."

I give an amused smile, "I long since decided to be an ally to you devils of Kuoh, I was just playing hard to get." At that she gives a more amusing laugh but still marred by sadness. "Go to your master when you are ready, tell her I am happy to work with her. I will even help with the Riser problem if she wants." Perhaps Akeno would have been surprised, but after our talk I think, she got used to my unnatural knowledge.

Or rather didn't feel like questioning it further...

I stand up to leave her to think in the quiet, but she catches my hand. Standing up she walks in front of me. She says, "Thank you, Hiyama…" then gives me a kiss on the cheek and a hug. I hugged her back of course; we stayed there for about 30 seconds. Once we part, she says her goodbyes then teleports away.

Well, that went well…

Deciding not to pretend I don't notice I spoke up, "I know you were all eavesdropping, come in."

At that, Shiori and the fallen trio filed into the room as I went back to my desk to sit.

Shiori stepped forward, "I'm sorry brother, we couldn't help ourselves…"

"Thank you, Hiyama…" Mittelt echoed Akeno, while placing her hands on her cheeks.

"You're such a hero master~" Kalawarner gushed. It seemed they all found my heartfelt conversation to be amusing.

"Why help her though?" Raynare questioned. I knew she would be jealous…

"Because I had the means to do so, not to mention solving their problems will develop a more positive relationship between us." I answer.

"It looks like it did more than that~" Shiori teased. "The way you sounded I would say you like her…"

"And so, what if I do? She is a very beautiful and kind woman." I replied trying to go on the attack, but of course it doesn't work on Shiori.

"So, you are into her~" This was getting insufferable. "I always knew you had a crush on Akeno, but I didn't think it was this serious." Well, the previous Hiyama did have a substantial crush on Akeno. He could see what I knew for a fact, Akeno was carrying a hole in her heart. Previous Hiyama had always struggled to find out what caused it, because he could never get close to her, but he always worried.

"Enough. I still haven't been served lunch Kala, and you can join her Mittelt. Raynare, you can stay I have something to discuss. Shiori… Go do whatever girls do these days" Despite the humorous tone I had, they still did everything I said.

Raynare clearly had some things to say, and I needed her magic talent. Before I could say something Raynare spoke, "Why are you doing all this?"
