Chapter 1 – Magia Nasina Online
Kazuki Kurotsuki’s POV
“Did you watch the guild battle yesterday?”
“Of course I did!”
“Me too!”
In the morning when people usually start to gather at school, excited voices could be heard from the classroom of year 2 class 3 students. They belong to Satou and Sasaki, popular extroverts from my class, and their friend group.
The group is centered around Satou and they maintain their high status by talking in a way that everybody could hear them about current topics and their group meetups at trendy places.
Well, if that was all there is to it, I couldn’t have cared less, but I really can’t stand how they look down on those who don’t belong to their group (but only when it comes to boys).
And today they are obviously talking about Magia. Considering the guild battle that was streamed yesterday, I guess they aren’t short on topics to discuss.
Although actually, I feel like Magia is all they have been talking about recently – for example, how they have created a new guild, upgraded their Beast Forms and whatnot, which makes me think that they just wanted to brag.
I enter the classroom through the door at the back, completely ignored by everybody, then sit in my seat and slump over the desk. A few people seem to notice me, but nobody tries to greet me.
Well, the feeling is mutual. Also, Satou, stop looking at me like I’m ruining your mood. Sorry I’m not the person you were looking for.
*【Magia Nasina Online】*
The game, called Magia in short, is an extremely popular online game with its player base all over the world, and constantly growing. It was released several years ago as the world’s first online game utilising the full dive system.
After that, game companies released their own imitation games one after another, but they have never stood a chance against the overwhelming popularity of Magia, even though years have passed. It still dominates the market, because of its simultaneous translation function and worldwide popularity.
The graphics are no worse than reality and the vast areas can be explored without limits. It is full of charm that keeps players engaged, some of its features being: very flexible gameplay, a huge number of quests with a high level of replayability, and a wide variety of classes, weapons, and magic.
“It was amazing! Wataru’s Beast Form is so strong! Nobody can beat that.”
“Yeah, his Tyrant Dragon is seriously amazing. He wiped out the whole enemy team with one hit, it was so cool! I also want to have a Beast Form like that!”
*【Beast Form】*
In Magia Nasina Online there are battle skills called Beast Forms.
It is a skill that equips a player with the power of mythical monsters and fantastical beings, temporarily enhancing their fighting power. From the moment one creates an avatar in Magia, the AI constructs the core of their Beast Form based on the player’s thoughts and actions. After meeting certain conditions the skill will get released and become available to use from that point onwards.
As the player grows in power and completes dedicated quests, their Beast Form can be later upgraded into a more powerful being as well.
“I mean, everybody only talks about Tyrant Dragon, but the other member’s Beast Forms are also quite amazing.”
“It can’t be said about Kuro, though. He’s just holding them back. If I were Wataru I would kick him out immediately, I wonder why this guy is still in the guild.”
“I think that Wataru said in an interview a long time ago that Kuro is someone he’s known for a long time. If I knew a famous person, I would probably follow them around, too. ”
“Come to think of it, Kuro hasn’t been dying so much recently. I wonder if Wataru said something to him.”
“Maybe he told him not to die so much. Although, there’s no point in staying alive if you’re useless anyway. If he can join the Sun and Moon guild with his abilities, then I can do it, too.”
“So true.”
Kuro is the Vice Guildmaster of the first ranked guild on the Japanese server, Sun and Moon. The public nicknamed him the guild’s baggage, a tagalong, and a good-for-nothing.
This person is me, Kazuki Kurotsuki, aka Kuro. I’m the one mocked for being the weakest ranked player of the abyss realm.
Huh? A message from Setsuna came… “Collect some firework mushrooms”, is this for real? Ehh… I don’t feel like it, but there’s nothing I can do about it.
“Hello, everyone!”
I feel like this friendly voice warmed up the atmosphere in the classroom. Looks like the person Satou has been looking for, the most popular girl in our class, has come to school.
