HEARTS OF DIVINE RUIN (The MoonGoddess and The AlphaKing)

Chapter 19: Chapter 18 :Whispers of Forgotten Truths

"Luna," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper, as he pulled her closer. The rhythm of his heartbeat was steady against her, grounding her in a way she hadn't expected. In that moment, everything outside faded—the fear, the uncertainty, the haunting words of the boy—all that mattered was the warmth of his body against hers, the promise of safety in his embrace.
As they lay there, Luna's thoughts began to settle, the chaos quieting in the presence of his closeness. She felt his grip tighten around her, and it reassured her in a way she hadn't realized she needed.
Luna's voice, barely a whisper, cut through the quiet room. "I think... it was Me. I stripped my divinity and turned myself into a human." Her confession hung in the air, raw and trembling.
Alex's brows furrowed, confusion clouding his features as he tightened his hold around her waist. He didn't let go, but his mind was racing. "Why?" His voice was soft but firm. "Why would you do that?"
Luna stayed silent for a long moment before responding, her voice fragile, like she wasn't sure of her own answer. "I don't remember. That's all the kid told me."
Alex's grip tightened slightly, feeling the weight of her words, his heart pounding in his chest. They stayed in the same position—Luna's back pressed against his chest, his arms locked around her like she was the only thing grounding him to reality.
After a moment of thick silence, Alex spoke again, his voice low, hesitant. "The kid... do you know him? Have you met him before?"
This time, her silence stretched longer, the space between them heavy with unspoken truths. Alex's unease grew with each second that passed, and when she didn't answer, he couldn't take it anymore. Gently but firmly, he grasped her shoulder, turning her toward him. He needed to see her face, to look into her eyes.
Their faces were inches apart now, so close he could feel her breath, warm and uneven. His eyes drifted, almost against his will, toward her lips. The proximity between them felt electric, dangerous. "Luna..." his voice was a strained whisper. "You're dangerous. This... us, right now... it's dangerous." He didn't pull back.
But instead of moving away, Luna reached out, wrapping her arms around him tightly, pressing her face against his chest, hiding from the intensity of his gaze. She needed to speak, to let him in, but not at that moment. "Back then," she began, her voice muffled but steady. "I wasn't the only ancient god. There were others. But they all left. One by one, they vanished."
Alex's brow creased further, his hand running gently through her hair, an attempt to comfort her as she revealed pieces of her forgotten past. "What do you mean, they left?" he asked softly.
"They broke the laws of nature and neglected their duties as gods ," she murmured. "At least, that's what I was told. They were punished, deemed unfit for this world. And only I stayed behind. Maybe its my- "
His heart twisted at her words. "Luna, that's not true. You—"
She cut him off. "The kid - His name is Ezra . He was one of them. One of the ancient gods. He's not a god anymore, though. I don't even know what he is now. He's just... a soul but today's the first time he's spoken to me in centuries."
Her voice broke at the end, and Alex could feel her vulnerability seeping through. He remained quiet for a long time, his mind absorbing everything she had shared. His hand moved to her back, soothing, gentle strokes as he processed her confession.
Finally, he whispered, "You're not alone in this, Luna. I don't know what's going on, but you don't have to carry it by yourself anymore." His voice was rough, emotions he hadn't expected bubbling to the surface. "I can't give you more than that. But I'll be here, as long as you need me."
Luna squeezed her eyes shut, her grip on him tightening. His warmth, his steady heartbeat against her ear—it was grounding her in ways she hadn't realized she needed. "Thank you," she whispered, her voice shaky. She didn't say more because she couldn't. The weight of her past, the uncertainty of her future—it was all too much. But for the moment, wrapped in his arms, she allowed herself to feel something close to safe.
Alex, still holding her, kissed the top of her head gently, his own mind a storm of conflicting feelings. There was so much he couldn't say, emotions he couldn't name, but in this moment, all he cared about was keeping her close.
Luna's mind drifted as sleep slowly overtook her, pulling her deeper into the recesses of her memories. The room around her faded, replaced by the haunting, vivid recollection of a night she wished she could forget.
The night of the wedding.
She found herself standing in the grand hall once again, just as she had that night. Her eyes followed a server, a faceless figure moving swiftly through the crowd.
The air was thick with tension, the kind that coils in your gut and whispers that something terrible is about to happen. She walked forward, her body moving instinctively as if replaying an event she'd long tried to suppress.
This time, as she entered the room where the server had led her, the faces were clear.
Too clear.
Luna froze at the entrance, her breath catching in her throat. The people... she recognized them. They were not strangers or mortals. They were gods in general.
Supernaturals. All of them. Every face, every expression, a reflection of ancient beings she had known for eons. People from different corners of the supernatural world , clans had gathered here, though none dared to meet her gaze. Their heads were bowed, eyes cast downward, as if the weight of what was to come had already crushed their spirits.
Why was no one looking at her? Was this what Ezra meant when he said everyone she once believed have betrayed her ?
Luna's heart pounded in her chest as she tried to make sense of it all. She walked further into the room, her senses heightened by the unease she felt.
And then she saw him.
In the middle of the crowd, standing with his back turned to her, was someone familiar—too familiar.
"It's him," she mumbled, her voice barely a whisper, as if speaking aloud might change the reality of what she was seeing.
Alex.
