Chapter 47: Chapter 47: A Shadow Double!?
Driven by burning rage, Nono didn't hesitate.
The surging dragon blood within her screamed: the man before her wasn't a father—he didn't deserve the title.
All his words had been lies. All he ever wanted was to wring out every drop of value from her. He never once saw the one named Chen Motong—be it the first or the cloned ones—as his daughter. So why should she acknowledge him as a father any longer?
Goodbye, Father. And farewell, my weakness.
One swift stab. Cold death instantly unfolded before them all.
Fresh blood gushed beneath the fallen body of Chen-dono, spreading into a chilling pool.
At that moment, the surrounding guards finally snapped out of their shock. One by one, they drew their weapons and pointed them at Nono, who held a bloodstained blade.
Yet they hesitated.
Their employer had been killed—by his own daughter. This was starting to feel like a family drama where outsiders shouldn't interfere...
...and besides, none of them had the authority to attack the master's child without orders.
Then suddenly, in the heavy silence that no one dared break, a voice erupted—
"All units, move to the estate perimeter! Intercept the approaching clan personnel! Repeat, all units to the estate perimeter…!"
The ones aiming at Nono realized it was coming from their radios—broadcasted in the unmistakable voice of the now-dead head of the Chen family!
They had been trained to follow orders first. No time to question the logic. They redirected their weapons and rushed off.
"...!"
Nono stood frozen, her face pale, staring at the corpse.
Dead. Very clearly dead.
And yet, his voice continued to speak commands through the radios.
This wasn't a recording. Those were live instructions. Someone alive was issuing them.
He's still alive!?
Then... the one she killed—was a body double? A kagemusha?
Could someone really impersonate him so perfectly that even she, who knew him intimately, couldn't tell?
She had thought the man and the shadow he cast over the family could be ended with one decisive blow... but now, the shadow thickened, the fog of uncertainty swallowed her once more.
But reality gave her no time to reflect.
Instead, things worsened.
"Deploy the Suppression Squad! Deploy the Suppression Squad!"
After the security team was rerouted, that same voice returned, now colder than ever, broadcast from some unknown location.
"Frigg No.3 has gone berserk. Initiate suppression protocol! Full-power ammunition authorized!"
Gunfire exploded from all sides.
Armed soldiers in black surged forth, surrounding her, driven by the ghost-like commands of the undying father.
Dressed in a white gown, Nono stood out like a spirit in the dark. She had already ripped off the long hem of her formal dress for easier movement, turning it into a rugged short skirt.
With the Ancient Dragon Serum active, her legs moved like the wind. The dragon blood boiled through her veins, heightening her senses to impossible levels.
Gunfire flashes, bullet trajectories—all seemed to slow before her eyes.
A light tap, a sideways shift—and she was gone.
Dancing through the hail of bullets, Nono moved with terrifying grace. Not a single shot landed.
The dragon blood gave her power—but it also fanned the flames of rage.
The soldiers' relentless fire stoked her fury.
A voice inside her screamed:
These foolish humans have offended a noble king. They must pay in blood!
But another voice—a rational, human voice—fought back:
No! Don't give in! Nono, these aren't your real enemies. They're just tools following orders.
If you start killing, you'll fall. You'll become a demon of slaughter! You're not a dragon—you're human! You still have revenge to take. Go! Kill your true enemy!
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The soldiers trembled as they watched Nono move—she wasn't like before.
Her silhouette blurred through smoke and muzzle flashes. She dodged sprays of bullets using cover, redirected fire, and even kicked away soldiers to use their bodies as meat shields.
White streaks darted between black uniforms. Bullets missed her by mere inches, only to tear into her pursuers.
Casualties mounted.
But oddly enough—it was mostly friendly fire.
Though her movements revealed white dragon scales and inhuman speed, Nono never dealt killing blows. It seemed she was suppressing the dragon's bloodlust with sheer will.
The suppression squad captain hesitated. Is this really berserk mode? It's not like the reports...
But orders were absolute.
Grinding his teeth, he radioed in: "Target escaping perimeter. Requesting permission to use alchemical rounds."
"Approved."
Just as Nono tried to shake off pursuit, a dangerous sensation flared in her gut.
She lunged forward, rolling hard—
BOOM!
An explosion behind her. Mercury vapor filled the air—
Alchemical armor-piercing rounds with mercury cores—designed specifically to kill dragons.
Dark blood dripped from her leg. One shot had grazed her.
The mercury inhalation made her pause.
She coughed.
The wound was minor for her dragon-boosted body, but Nono wasn't wasting any more time.
She bolted ahead, diving into the estate's small forest—almost at the gate.
And there she saw him.
The Chen family patriarch, alive and well, hurriedly climbing into a car, radio in hand.
You won't escape me this time!
"What's going on in there? Is the Chen family having a civil war?"
A few clan scions stationed outside the estate whispered among themselves, having heard faint bursts from inside.
No way they're setting off fireworks this late at night...
One lounged on a bench half-asleep. Another walked a golden retriever slowly down the sidewalk. One stood at a florist's shop admiring the blooms. Another, dressed like a laborer, smoked quietly by the hedges.
They looked like ordinary passersby—but they were all disguised monitors from other major clans.
