Harry Potter: Transmigrated Detective Link

Chapter 139: Chapter 139: Lockhart’s Farce

"John? John isn't here?"

On the podium, Lockhart said with a face full of confusion. As he spoke, he stretched his neck and looked around.

But no matter how he searched, he just couldn't find any trace of John.

Sighing, Link stood up and said, "Professor Lockhart, John isn't feeling well and is in the hospital wing."

"Is that so? What a pity indeed."

Lockhart showed an expression of regret, but Link's face was full of dislike.

In fact, there was nothing wrong with John's body. He had only bought a Quick-Skip-Class Candy from the George-Fred twins, pretending to have a nosebleed just to skip class.

As for why he did this, it was entirely because Lockhart forced him to.

No other way, Lockhart seemed to particularly enjoy making John cooperate with him during class. According to incomplete statistics, since the start of term, John had already played the role of a werewolf three times, a vampire once, and a female ghost twice.

Of course, the current record-holder wasn't him, but Harry.

Just imagine being dragged on stage like a clown every day and laughed at by your classmates. No one could bear that.

After a short moment of mourning for John, Link was about to sit back down.

However, just at that moment, Lockhart on the podium suddenly seemed to remember something. His eyes lit up and he pointed at Link, saying, "Link! Since John can't come, then today it will be you who assists me, alright?"

"You sure about that?" Link squinted slightly and asked after a brief pause.

You must know, ever since Link moved out of the Flamel family and fiercely scolded Lockhart, the latter never dared to mess with Link again.

Yet today, Lockhart was acting completely out of character by asking Link to act alongside him. Link really couldn't figure out what was going on in his head.

"Of course! Perhaps there were some misunderstandings between us in the past, but as members of the Order of Merlin, I think we need to communicate more in the future!"

Lockhart said with a smile, then opened his arms and loudly announced to the audience below, "Students, you may not know, under my careful guidance, student Link Flamel has already been awarded the Order of Merlin! He, just like me, has become a glorious recipient of the Third-Class Order of Merlin!"

After speaking, Lockhart even puffed up his chest on purpose, showing off the sparkling Third-Class Order of Merlin medal pinned on his chest.

As soon as those words were spoken, the audience fell silent.

Thanks to Lockhart flaunting it every day, everyone present knew very clearly what the Third-Class Order of Merlin represented.

For a moment, even the Ravenclaws couldn't help but stop what they were doing and looked at Link with eyes full of disbelief.

The Hufflepuffs were even more unable to hold back and cried out in surprise. Although normally they were fairly easygoing, or rather, quite salty-fish-like, that didn't mean they didn't have a competitive spirit.

Now that Link, as one of their own, had achieved such a great accomplishment, how could they not be excited?

"Link! Can I touch your medal?"

"Link! You must be the youngest ever to receive the Order of Merlin, right?"

"Link! You're amazing!"

In an instant, Link was drowned in the excited Hufflepuffs. He hurriedly responded to all their questions, but his dissatisfied gaze kept drifting toward Lockhart.

Now he understood why Lockhart had especially wanted him to cooperate today. This was just Lockhart trying to ride his popularity.

This made Link sigh at just how thick Lockhart's skin was.

After a wave of excitement, Lockhart finally quieted the crowd. He excitedly brought Link up to the podium, patting Link's back as he said, "Link didn't let me down. I'm very moved. I've already decided to include the story of me and student Link braving hardship and earning the Order of Merlin into my next novel."

"I believe it will be a deeply touching story! If any of you are interested in the details, you can buy the book at Flourish and Blotts once it's published!"

After saying this, Lockhart began clapping enthusiastically, and the audience below followed suit with cheers.

In an instant, the atmosphere in the entire classroom was boiling hot.

But the expression on Link's face was a little gloomy. He could already imagine just how embarrassingly ridiculous Lockhart's story would be. After all, authors like him could write any kind of dog-blood drama just for the sake of the plot!

Gritting his teeth, Link felt a strong urge to rush out of the classroom right then and there.

But Lockhart tightly grabbed his arm and continued saying, "Alright, now let's return to the topic! Link, I need you to play the role of a vampiric ghoul!"

As he spoke, Lockhart pulled out a zombie mask and handed it to Link. "Remember what I mentioned in my book? The cry of a vampiric ghoul is different from that of an ordinary ghoul. Theirs goes 'Ooooooo,' not 'Yahha!'"

Looking at Lockhart's exaggerated mimicry, Link felt so awkward he almost scratched a hole in the floor with his toes.

"I will not wear that damn thing!" Link said, word by word.

Upon hearing this, Lockhart looked a little embarrassed, but seeing Link's tightly clenched fists, he lowered his voice and meekly said, "It's okay, Link, it's fine not to wear it. In a moment, just like in my book, I'll cast a Trip Jinx on you. All you have to do is fall down obediently."

After saying that, Lockhart even winked at Link.

Link, holding back his nausea, gave Lockhart a twisted smile and said, "Ah, of course, I'll cooperate with you, Professor Lockhart..."

Once again with that same Snape-style tone at the end. Lockhart, however, didn't seem to notice anything and continued speaking to the audience as if nothing had happened, "Students, do you remember what I taught you last class? Because of the stiffness in corpses, ghouls don't move very nimbly. And to deal with that weakness, the Trip Jinx is the best tactic! This also applies to vampiric ghouls! Now, let's begin!"

Lockhart slowly pulled out his wand. Under the expectant gazes of the crowd, he struck a pose and then recited the line from his book, "Ugly monster! I will never allow you to hurt my Lilia! Fall now!"

A dim beam of light suddenly appeared, shooting straight toward Link. The crowd below couldn't help but gasp in alarm.

But the next second, a pitch-black wand appeared in the grinning Link's hand.

"Protego!"

Buzz~

A layer of translucent shield appeared in front of Link, directly bouncing Lockhart's Trip Jinx back.

Seeing this, Lockhart's pupils shrank quickly. He stepped aside as if trying to dodge, but it was already too late.

The Trip Jinx struck his knees precisely, and a strange force arose, causing Lockhart's legs to tangle together at an odd angle.

Thump!

Losing his balance, Lockhart fell straight forward onto the floor, and a pool of crimson blood slowly began spreading across the ground.

The classroom once again fell into silence.

Everyone stared dumbfounded at Lockhart, who just a moment ago had been full of energy, now lying on the floor, not knowing how to react.
