Chapter 144: Finding the Entrance

James, Andromeda, and Bella were now standing on an open field. Behind them were the ruins of an abandoned medieval town.

"What happened here?" Bella asked.

"Nothing is just old," James said.

"Is this a Muggle town? Looks kinda rundown…" Andromeda looked around. "Are you sure the tomb is here?"

"Is not here, but it is close by." He pointed at the ruins behind them. "These are the ruins of an old medieval town called Kenfig. It is mentioned in the book."

James pulled out the tome he had been reading. "This book is the key to finding the actual tomb. It was written by someone who actually found the tomb like seventy years ago… he was the only one who survived, but only long enough to write this thing."

"That book has been around for seventy years? How come no one has found the tomb again?" Bella asked.

"Yes, that tomb should have been raided already," Andromeda agreed.

"There are few copies of this tome. But more importantly… no one believed that the tomb was real. The way the author described it… well, it sounded like fantasy. And he died shortly after writing the tome, so he never had the chance to prove anything," James said.

Although that wasn't going to last for long. Just five years from now, someone will be making the discovery.

Or at least, that was supposed to happen originally.

"Mmm… now you got my curiosity." Andromeda leaned forward to take a peek at what James was reading.

"So, does it say where to go from here?" Bella asked.

"There should be a lake nearby. Then we need to locate some type of rock formation," James said.

"There is a weird drawing on that page," Andromeda noted.

"Yes, I think we need to find something with that shape. That would lead us to the entrance," James explained.

"It looks like a skull thought," Bella noted.

The walk to the lake only took a few minutes, although it was more of a large pond than a lake.

"How are we supposed to find any rocks in here? It's all filled with plants," Andromeda complained.

It was true that the entire shore of the pond was filled to the brim with all kinds of tall plants that made it impossible to see any details.

"We are gonna have to get closer then," James said.

"Seriously? You don't really expect us to get into the muddy water, right?" Bella raised an eyebrow. She may not have been as pompous as other ladies from ancient houses, but there was always a limit.

"I can place some Bubble Charms to avoid the water," James suggested as he held his wand in hand.

"Hold on, you can't use magic outside Hogwarts. You don't have your OWLs yet," Andromeda hurried to say. "The Trace on your wan—"

"I already removed it." James said as he placed a Bubble Charm that went up to his waist.

"He also removed mine." Bella took out her wand as well.

"I see… how naughty." Andromeda just found it amusing.

"Do you need help with that?" James saw Bella trying to apply the charm but it was only covering her feet.

"I can do it. It's only a Bubble Charm." She huffed while she tried again.

"Don't beat yourself up, sis. That is a fifth-year charm." Andromeda pointed her wand at Bella and applied the charm properly.

"I could have done it myself! I was getting the hang of it," Bella exclaimed.

"Come on, we don't have much time to find the entrance," James said before walking towards the water.

"Ugg… it's still nasty. Why is the water so dark?" Andromeda covered her nose.

"Looking at the surrounding land, this must have been a lake in the past, but it has been shrinking over the centuries. This tomb was built almost a millennia ago," James said.

"This is going to take forever… there is too much shr—ahh!" Bella yelled.

"What happened?!" Andromeda ran towards her.

"A snake! I saw a snake as I was moving those blasted plants out of the way," Bella responded while moving away.

"What kind of Slytherin is afraid of snakes?" James chuckled.

Bella turned around, looking angry and embarrassed. "Hmph! It just took me by surprise. I'm not afraid of any snake."

"Where was it? I don't see anything," Andromeda asked.

"Over there, it was on top of something and tried to lunge at me." Bella pointed.

"Wait…" James saw something slick shining in between the shrubbery. "Move away from there." James pointed his wand ahead.

"What are you doing?" Andromeda asked while she and Bella backed from the water.

"Depulso!" James put a lot of power in the spell—enough to send every single plant in the area flying away, as well as one unfortunate snake.

As soon as everything settled down, James saw a large rock that had been hidden under all those plants.

"Is that?..." Bella got closer.

"It doesn't look like the one in the drawing," Andromeda pointed out.

"That's because you are looking at it from the wrong side..." James spotted something inside the water.

"What do you mean?" Andromeda looked confused.

James jumped out of the water and pointed his wand at his feet. "Ferebatur."

His feet separated from the ground and his body began to levitate in the air.

"What the…" Bella was staring at him with shock. "You can fly?!" She had never heard of a spell that did that.

"I'm not flying, just levitating a bit," James said as he continued to ascend.

"A human levitating charm," Andromeda recognized the magic. "They don't teach that in school."

"I think I found the entrance," James said from the air.

From his high point of view, he could finally see the rock formation he had been looking for.

It could only be seen properly from an aerial perspective, but if one got high enough, they could discern something resembling the skull of a beast—with the upper part of the skull being at the shore of the lake and the mouth being under the murky waters.

And according to the texts, the entrance would be inside the mouth.

'That means we have to go for a dive…'

"We are going to need some full-body Bubble Charms for this," said James.
