Harry Potter: The Dark ages

Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Remus Lupin

While Lockhart was still meticulously planning his ghost-catching performance, "A Maverick Pig" took a break, and everyone no longer had to gather in the Library and classrooms daily to discuss what to do next and how to do it.

Easter holidays hadn't even arrived yet, let alone the final exams, so everyone was very relaxed.

Gary assisted Howard, and Howard had already tasted most of the food in the Hogwarts kitchens.

Gary was responsible for refining Howard's food tasting notes, rephrasing his words into more fluent and direct language.

This wasn't an easy job, as Gary didn't have much feeling for food; besides raspberry ice cream, he didn't have any favorite foods.

Without passion for gourmet food, he naturally couldn't write good copy, only slightly better than the sentences Howard jotted down casually.

Gary didn't want to do this job, but besides Howard, he couldn't find any friends he could talk to: Alfrina was helping Kona organize Astronomy weather forecast data, Lupin had taken leave to go home for the past two days, and Lily and Snape were happily playing by themselves, leaving Gary no room to join.

Gary calculated that he seemed to have no choice but to stick with Howard.

Fortunately, the word count of Howard's "Hogwarts Food Appreciation Diary" wasn't high, and Gary finished it by slacking off for a week.

Howard wanted to print this diary and sell it to Hogwarts students and graduated Wizards.

He himself knew that normally no publishing house would be willing to take on this book, but Howard had the power of money.

He took out a thousand Galleons of his pocket money, then got a subsidy from his father.

After receiving the money, Whizzhard Publishing House, which had previously published the bestseller "Fantastic Quidditch," immediately rearranged their schedule.

Within three days, eight hundred copies of the freshly printed, ink-scented "Hogwarts Food Appreciation Diary" were hot off the press.

Howard gave a copy to every Hogwarts student; students naturally wouldn't refuse something they got for free.

Howard kept a few copies for himself, and the remaining books were placed on the shelves of various bookstores.

Howard knew selling this book would definitely be a money-losing venture, but he just loved to write, and once he wrote, he wanted people to read it.

Money could be asked from his father if it ran out, but where could a lost dream be compensated?

After all this was settled, Gary could finally rest for two days.

He slept until he woke up naturally every day, practiced spells in an abandoned classroom after class, and in the evening, he could join discussions with other Ravenclaw students in the common room.

Gary could chime in on some questions, and for most, he was completely lost, but watching a group of serious people argue until their faces turned red and necks swelled was quite enjoyable.

Everyone continued to relax until after the Easter holidays, when all subjects entered the review phase.

It was then that Alfrina gathered everyone to start preparing for the final exam review priorities.

Snape and Lily were responsible for Potions, Kona for Astronomy, Gary for magic, History of Magic and Herbology went to Alfrina, and Transfiguration to Lupin.

After assigning their respective tasks, they dispersed again.

While the seven were busy organizing review materials, Lockhart was already prepared.

During the Easter holidays, he went to an Alchemy shop in Diagon Alley and bought a protective ring and a string of anti-curse bracelets.

He had also practiced two new spells these past two days, just waiting for tonight's full moon.

Lupin, as usual, asked for leave from several teachers today.

Taking three days off every month had already made his dormitory brothers somewhat suspicious.

He always said he had to go home to take care of his seriously ill mother, but everyone wasn't foolish and knew these were excuses.

Lupin secretly snuck out of the common room under the cover of night; he had to go to the Hospital Wing on the second floor of the Castle first to find Madam Pomfrey, who would take him to the Shrieking Shack.

Under the cover of darkness, the two left the Castle and walked along a small path.

Soon, they saw a large open space with only a willow tree standing alone.

Madam Pomfrey skillfully used her wand to manipulate a fist-sized stone on the ground, sending it flying towards the willow tree.

The willow tree suddenly came alive, furiously waving its branches, defending its territory.

Lupin could hear the sonic booms from the branches striking the air even from a distance.

Under Madam Pomfrey's control, the stone darted through the gaps in the branches, then landed perfectly in a hollow in the tree trunk.

The willow tree's branches stopped waving, frozen in place.

Madam Pomfrey led Lupin close to the willow tree, then entered a tree hole.

Inside the tree hole, there was actually a winding passage where light could never penetrate, feeling somewhat dark and damp.

Some places were very low, requiring them to crawl to pass.

The two used their hands and feet, following the passage for about half an hour, finally reaching the end of the road—where the sound of wind could be heard.

Madam Pomfrey pushed open the wooden door at the end of the passage with force, and the view opened up.

Lupin followed Madam Pomfrey out; they were already in Hogsmeade, and in front was another large open space with a lonely bungalow standing there.

After entering, Madam Pomfrey led him to an empty room.

The walls of this room still had residual bloodstains, and several iron chains were scattered on the floor, with the other ends of the chains connected to the wall.

"Alright," Madam Pomfrey said softly, "I'll pick you up tomorrow morning."

Lupin gritted his teeth and nodded, looking up at the window.

The moon was faintly visible, hiding behind thick clouds.

Madam Pomfrey gently fastened the four iron chains to Lupin's limbs, checked to make sure they were securely tied, and then left with a sigh of helplessness.

Lupin's frail body curled up.

Early May nights in Britain were still somewhat cold.

He crossed his arms over his shoulders, waiting for that bright moon.

He didn't hate anyone except that Werewolf.

When he was little, his mother would still hold him on full moon nights and tell him not to be afraid.

Headmaster Dumbledore knew he was a Werewolf yet still allowed him to enroll.

His three friends in the dormitory treated him very well; they clearly suspected his clumsy excuses but never pressed for details.

Everyone in "A Maverick Pig," and the gentle and kind Madam Pomfrey...

It was already good enough to be able to study, Lupin thought; at least he still had friends.

He wondered where those victims like him were now, howling and crying in some forest in Britain?

A gust of wind blew, scattering the clouds in the sky, and the golden-yellow full moon appeared.

The elegant moonlight, in the eyes of ordinary people, scattered on the ground, through the window, into the Shrieking Shack, and onto Remus Lupin, like a tightly woven net, entangling him.
