Chapter 28: In the VIP Box
Ludo Bagman settled himself in the group and it was evident that Arthur was enjoying Bagman's company. Bagman being his usual self, called in for bets.
Probably showing some respect, Arthur made a symbolic bet of 1 galleon on Ireland winning while the twins, Fred and George betted something around 37 galleons on Ireland winning but Victor Krum from Bulgaria catching the snitch.
Harry caught Percy suddenly standing stiffly as he waddled forward to greet someone. The new comer was a stiff man, groomed and dressed sharply. He had a no nonsense air around him.
Arthur also got up to greet, "Mr. Crouch."
Percy almost cur across his father probably fearing that the senior Weasley will hog all the limelight from him.
"Mr. Barty Crouch is the head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation," he said enthusiastically. "I am currently working under his direct command."
Following it, Arthur introduced his remaining children and Harry and Hermione to Barty.
A small flicker of irritation flashed through Barty's eyes on seeing Harry. It was missed by everyone except Harry.
Barty stopped there for few minutes and Percy could not stop fawning and bootlicking over the senior Crouch.
Barty crouch then departed but not before calling Percy, "Weatherby."
The remaining Weasleys burst out laughing and Percy was subject to the twins' humiliation for the rest of the morning.
After having their breakfast, the group crossed the woods to arrive in another opening. An enormous stadium stood before their eyes. The sheer size and the level of the stadium left the group in awe.
"Seats a hundred thousand," explained Arthur further shocking the group. "The ministry has been constructing this for a year."
They took their designated path from where they were guided towards the VIP chamber after showcasing their tickets.
Arthur shook hands with a lot of important officials from the ministry introducing Harry along with it while Percy was being the monkey in the circus trying to garner as much attention as he could.
Soon entered Cornelius Fudge, the minster of magic. Accompanying him was another man, the Bulgarian minister of magic.
Percy almost jumped towards the minster, "Good morning minister. I am Percy Weasley, a newly appointed employee of the ministry under the department of international magical cooperation."
He tried to continue, "Minister, I am so impressed about your recent ideas…"
But Cornelius Fudge gave a non committal nod as he continued and arrived near Harry.
"Hello, Harry," he greeted quite warmly. "How are you?"
Percy and Ron seethed with anger out of jealousy.
"I am doing well, minister," Harry replied curtly.
"He is Harry Potter," the minister said to his Bulgarian counterpart. "You know…. The boy who lived."
He leaned towards Harry and said in a low tone but enough loud for the Bulgarian minister to hear clearly, "He cannot understand a word I say. I need Crouch for the language job."
"It seems his elf is keeping a seat for him," said Fudge as his eyes caught an elf sitting in the front row.
Harry also looked the shivering elf, Winky and his eyes invariably wandered on the 'empty' seat next to the elf. A smile tugged across Harry's lips.
Harry's attention was drawn back by another smaller commotion in the room. Lucius Malfoy, along with his wife and son had made their entry. The trade mark Malfoy sneer was present on Lucius and Draco's face.
Fudge introduced the Bulgarian minister to Lucius and in his flow, the buffoon minister forgot about the 'enmity' between Arthur and Lucius as he introduced the Bulgarian minister to Arthur while still being in Lucius' company.
The air in the room turned thick at the moment and Harry remembered the scene in his second year when the two adult wizards had come to dealing physical blows to each other.
A mocking expression appeared on Lucius' face as he said, "oh! Arthur what did you have to sell to get the tickets of the VIP box? I am not sure if your house fetched you this much."
The tension in the room turned even thicker but Harry paid no heed as he took his seat in the first row not much far away from Winky.
Meanwhile, Fudge diffused the tension between Arthur and Lucius.
Very soon, Bagman's voice echoed in the stadium as he called for the mascots and in came a flutter of beautiful girls as Bulgarian mascots- Veela.
The entire stadium erupted in loud cheer as most of men lost their sense of control as they were visibly drooling.
Ron and Draco, in the VIP box were the worst and they were shouting and screaming at the edge of the box.
Hermione who had taken her seat next to Harry looked around in confusion. It was very rare for her to not know something.
"They are Veelas," explained Harry. "Basically, they are classified as creatures, similar to an elf."
Hermione's face turned disgusting at this while Harry continued.
"In reality, they are half humans. Normally they look like this… but when their emotions run high, they transform into half human with a bird appearance. They grow beaks and wings on their back."
"They have a strong affinity for fire oriented magic," added Harry.
"But their most powerful weapon in their allure," Harry completed gesturing towards the male. "Any male with a weak mindset will invariably be affected by their allure."
Hermione nodded in understanding as the mascots departed and the match officially began.
