Harry Potter: Eternity Wizard

Chapter 46: Chapter 45: Snape: I Hate Prophets

At this moment, Harry Potter couldn't help but recall Snape's cold sarcasm from the very first Potions class—so terrifying that it had haunted his nightmares for a long time.

And all the subtle and not-so-subtle targeting he had endured.

He and my mother were great friends in school?!

Harry's eyes widened so much it felt like they were about to tear out of their sockets.

But looking at Roger's confident expression, and at Snape's twisted, speechless face after being questioned, a thought flashed through Harry's mind.

…Could it be true?

His small heart was suddenly filled with countless question marks.

"…Roger!" Unlike Harry, who was wide-eyed in shock, Snape's pupils were filled with fury, like a dragon whose reverse scale had been touched.

"Hm?"

Seeing Snape grit his teeth while saying his name and even slowly pulling out his wand, looking ready for a fight, Roger quickly waved his hands. "Don't misunderstand, I'm not here to cause trouble."

Even as he spoke, Roger discreetly prepared for combat—just in case Snape acted on impulse.

"I just want to help Harry understand more about his family… You know his situation. Not just you, but many other staff members at Hogwarts must also have memories related to Harry's family. I plan to visit them one by one afterward."

"But among them, you probably knew Harry's mother best. After all, you met her even before receiving your Hogwarts acceptance letter. That's why I came to you first."

"I—"

"Shut up!" Snape growled, cutting Roger off.

As the words left his mouth, he slowly clenched the fabric of his robe over his chest.

The anger that had flushed his face suddenly faded, leaving him pale—almost deathly white.

Memories he had buried deep within his heart resurfaced with Roger's words, their dust wiped away, crystal clear as if they had just happened yesterday. The sweetness, the bitterness, the pain—it was like a poisoned blade laced with honey, twisting inside his chest.

Snape raised his wand.

Roger met his gaze calmly.

But in the end, Snape didn't point his wand at Roger. Instead, he pressed it to his own temple.

With a flick, a shimmering silver strand of memory was pulled from his mind.

"You insufferable prophet, shut your prying eyes, take these memories, and get out of my office! Immediately!" Snape, exuding a suffocating pressure, stepped forward, glaring down at Roger.

The silvery-white memory dropped into Roger's Pensieve.

Roger calmly swirled the liquid with his fingertip, then paused. "…Professor Snape, you added a bit of resentment in there."

"So what?" Snape, standing so close that Roger could feel his breath, curled his lips into a cold smirk.

"They can do things, but I can't speak?"

Roger had come for memories of Lily. Snape, as a bonus, had thrown in his memories of James Potter as well.

And they were far from friendly.

Roger nodded. "Of course you can."

But as he spoke, he reached into the Pensieve—a device meant for experiencing memories as an immersive mental projection.

The next moment, a fleeting look of astonishment crossed Snape's face.

He watched as Roger pulled out the memories by hand—something that should have been impossible.

Like unraveling silk threads, Roger carefully extracted every part related to James Potter.

Before Snape could even process what had happened, the two separate strands of memory were placed back into the Pensieve, one after the other.

Snape's already dark expression froze slightly. He didn't understand Roger's intention.

Roger wasn't one to be mysterious, so he explained directly, "Everyone is complex. They have good sides and bad sides. I want Harry to see the truth, not some sugarcoated fairy tale."

"Of course, the more controversial parts—I'll save those for last. When the time comes, Harry can judge them himself. I won't interfere."

Roger's deal with Harry was simple: Harry would be Roger's 'technical miner,' and in return, Roger would help bring his family back to life.

In this process, Roger wanted absolute honesty—he didn't want Harry to resurrect his parents only to find out later that the truth didn't match his expectations.

Besides, if Harry got halfway through his journey and then saw something in time that shook him to the core, causing him to doubt everything—that would be even more troublesome.

Better to clear out all hidden pitfalls from the start, then decide whether to move forward.

That was Roger's real reason for bringing Harry to Snape.

Even if Snape hadn't given up his memories of James Potter, Roger would have gone looking for them elsewhere anyway.

Roger and Snape locked eyes once more.

Roger's gaze remained calm and sincere, while the hostility in Snape's eyes gradually faded.

As Snape stared into Roger's eyes, he started to understand.

Roger shared certain traits with 'that person' from the past, yet Dumbledore's attitude toward him was different.

Because there was a fundamental difference between them.

You could be wary of Roger, even hostile toward him, but you never needed to doubt him.

"Hmph, close the door on your way out." Even though Snape now understood that Roger wasn't here to provoke him, he still couldn't bring himself to like this boundary-less prophet.

Tsk. Annoying prophet.

"So… Snape really was friends with my mom?" It wasn't until they left the Slytherin Head's office that Harry finally snapped out of his daze.

The shock was just too much.

This was Snape!

To a Gryffindor student—especially one who had suffered the most from Snape's bias—his image was practically on par with the Dark Lord himself.

"Their relationship was complicated. You'll understand once you see the memories." Roger had no intention of hiding anything. It was simply too convoluted. If he tried to explain, he'd have to go over James Potter, Sirius Black, and a whole mess of other things.

Too much effort.

"Then why does he treat me like that?" Harry lowered his head, his mind in turmoil. In just ten minutes, his familiar world had turned completely upside down.

"It's related to your parents… But honestly, even though Snape seems to despise you, he's actually one of the very few people in this world who would risk everything—including his own life—to protect you."

Roger turned his head to look at Harry, whose face was once again filled with 'I am shocked for a whole year' expressions. He then said, "It's true. Don't forget, I'm a prophet who can see the future."

"Wanna take a peek? A glimpse of the future?"
