Chapter 326: Chapter 326: Hermione: Perhaps It’s the Work of a God?
Before leaving Professor McGonagall's office, Wade and Hermione both put the Time-Turner around their necks and hid it under their robes to avoid it being seen.
The two walked side by side down the empty corridor, too excited to speak. As they walked, Hermione suddenly bounced twice on the spot.
"Time!"
Hermione exclaimed excitedly:
"Wade, this is a Time-Turner! It's so cool! No wonder when I asked Percy how I could manage twelve subjects at once, he said he couldn't tell me but that I'd understand when the time came."
"Hmm."
Wade touched the outline of the Time-Turner through his clothes and said: "I wonder who first discovered that the power of time could be tamed."
"Even though I'm a witch, I still think… perhaps it was a god?"
Hermione pondered, "I've never read about any spell related to time in any book."
Wade said: "Professor Murray once lent me a book that stated the Time-Turner itself doesn't have any special function—it's a spell called the 'Time Reversal Charm' that allows people to travel through time."
Hermione's curiosity was instantly piqued. "The Time Reversal Charm?"
"Unfortunately, the spell was never passed down, and it's uncertain whether it even truly existed."
Wade shook his head, stopping himself from getting lost in thought before saying, "But… don't you think the 'Reparo' spell is somewhat like a time-reversing spell?"
Hermione seemed deep in thought.
As they spoke, the two unconsciously slowed their pace. When Professor McGonagall rushed out of her office, she found them still standing foolishly at the entrance of the Great Hall.
"What are you two doing standing here?"
Professor McGonagall's voice rang out from behind them.
Hermione jumped in surprise, nearly leaping off the ground.
Wade turned and said, "We wanted to wait until the Sorting Ceremony was over before going in, Professor."
Professor McGonagall gave them an approving smile before saying, "At this time, the Sorting Ceremony should already be over. Come with me!"
The witch pushed open the doors of the Great Hall, drawing the attention of several students.
As Professor McGonagall calmly walked toward the staff table, Wade and Hermione returned to their respective houses' tables.
"What did McGonagall want you guys for?" Ron asked curiously.
"Um… just the new semester's course schedule. You know I signed up for twelve subjects," Hermione replied vaguely.
Percy, who was sitting at the front of the Gryffindor table, turned around at this moment and smiled and nodded at Hermione. The two exchanged a knowing smile.
Michael had deliberately chosen a seat at the end of the Ravenclaw table, leaving an easy-access spot for Wade.
However, when Wade returned, Michael was busy showing off a leaf umbrella to a group of pretty girls. He didn't have time to talk to Wade, and only managed to shoot him a quick glance.
Wade looked toward the staff table—there were almost no changes from the end of the previous school year. Professor Abigail was still seated next to Snape, wearing her signature smirk, while Professor Snape maintained his usual dark expression.
At the edge of the table sat a large figure—Hagrid, dressed far more neatly than usual, he no longer resembled a wild, primitive man. However, his hair and beard were still as messy as ever.
Dumbledore stood up to speak.
"Welcome!" he said cheerfully. "Welcome to Hogwarts! I hope we'll have another exciting and eventful year!"
The students erupted into laughter, and the Weasley twins shouted, "Professor! Are there any challenges in September? What monster are we fighting this time?!"
"Oh, well, our old friends in the Forbidden Forest might not appreciate getting beaten up," Dumbledore mused.
"But speaking of which, I once encountered a mutated carnivorous slug in the forest. It swallowed my friend Sean in one gulp! By the time we pulled poor Sean out, he was completely covered in—"
"Ahem!" Professor McGonagall suddenly coughed twice.
Dumbledore's nostalgic storytelling came to an abrupt halt. After a brief pause, he continued:
"Let's save any appetite-ruining topics for another time! Now, I am pleased to announce that we have a new outstanding addition to our faculty—"
"Rubeus Hagrid!"
Hagrid's face turned red with excitement as he quickly stood up and waved to everyone. The students' gazes followed him.
Dumbledore said with a smile:
"Professor Kettleburn, who taught Care of Magical Creatures, has retired to spend more time with his remaining little troublemakers. Hagrid will be taking his place, in addition to his duties as gamekeeper, as the new Care of Magical Creatures professor!"
A few seconds later, the Gryffindor table erupted into enthusiastic applause. After a moment's hesitation, the other houses slowly followed with scattered claps.
Hagrid gave a nervous smile, and was standing awkwardly until Professor McGonagall gestured for him to sit down.
Even seated, Hagrid was still taller than Professor McGonagall beside him—let alone Professor Flitwick, who, with his goblin ancestry, looked like a tiny doll in comparison.
"Dumbledore is getting crazier every year," Draco Malfoy sneered. "Hiring a servant as our professor? I really wish I were at Durmstrang instead!"
The surrounding Slytherins murmured their agreement.
Ever since Malfoy had nearly killed Crabbe by accident last term, the students around him had initially been terrified and kept their distance.
However, after some time, they gradually gathered around him again—this time, with even more respect than before.
In the past, they had only flattered Malfoy because of the wealth of the Malfoy family. Now, they surrounded him because of Malfoy himself.
"I also chose Care of Magical Creatures," Michael said with a slightly pale face. He hesitated before asking, "Wade, I know you get along with him… so, this… this Professor Hagrid, other than being tall, he wouldn't actually hit students, right?"
As he spoke, he glanced at Professor Abigail at the staff table, clearly still shaken from past experiences.
Wade couldn't help but laugh. "When you participated in the maze challenge, didn't Hagrid act as a judge several times? You should know he has a good temper."
"A gamekeeper's good temper doesn't necessarily mean a professor's good temper," Michael replied seriously. "Besides, the way you clapped was a bit… half-hearted. If you were really happy about him becoming our professor, you wouldn't have clapped like that."
Wade smiled helplessly and said, "Hagrid loves dragons."
Michael looked puzzled. "Who doesn't love dragons?—as long as they're not attacking me."
"Well, even if a dragon attacked him, Hagrid will still think those little creatures are adorable and charming. That's the difference between you two," Wade said.
