Haikyuu - I Am A Different Hinata!

Chapter 22: Chapter 22 - Practice Match Vs. Seijoh (Part 2)

The game continued with Karasuno in the lead, having opened up a 7-3 advantage.

It was Ennoshita's turn to serve. He made a safety serve that didn't pose much challenge for Aoba Johsai's defense, where Watari, the bald libero, received it and sent the ball to Yahaba. This time, Yahaba attempted a set for Kindaichi who, after jumping, noticed Karasuno's block was delayed with only Daichi trying to block him. He spiked the ball past Daichi's arms, before Kageyama, who was preoccupied with Iwaizumi acting as a decoy, could arrive to help with the block, sending the ball toward the middle of the court.

"Take that! This point is mine!" thought Kindaichi while still in the air, about to land as he watched the ball nearly touch the ground. But his plans were thwarted by Hinata, who predicted the ball's trajectory and dove to make the receive, putting his hand between the floor and the ball, sending it back into play toward Kageyama. Kageyama observed Tsukishima positioned at the center of the net and set the ball to him, who easily slammed it down on the opponent's court.

8-3 Karasuno

"Your sets are too precise and it's disturbing," said Tsukishima while looking at his hands in disgust.

"HOW DOES THAT EVEN MAKE SENSE, YOU IDIOT!" shouted Kageyama.

Ennoshita serves again and is easily received by Aoba Johsai's libero, who manages to pass to Yahaba. Yahaba notices Iwaizumi making a small signal with his finger requesting a long set, and then jumped. After receiving the set, he faced a double block from Daichi and Tsukishima but this time managed to spike the ball through a gap between their block, scoring a point for his team.

8-4 Karasuno

"Don't underestimate us!" he said while celebrating.

"Nice point!" praised Kunimi. After the point, it was Kunimi's turn to serve toward Tanaka, who manages to receive it.

"Nice receive, Tanaka!" said Kageyama, already watching the ball coming his way and then looking at the Seijoh team, who seemed extremely focused on reading who would get the pass. Kageyama simply tapped the ball over the net, making it fall onto Seijoh's court as they couldn't predict the play.

9-4 Karasuno

"NICE! VERY SMART, KAGEYAMA," said Sugawara from the bench.

"Hmm...Thanks?" responded Kageyama, a bit confused since he thought the play was simple and not particularly clever.

"You crafty bastard!" said Kindaichi to Kageyama, who again just ignored him.

After Karasuno's point, it was Hinata's turn to serve.

"I heard that Karasuno's first-year's serve is pretty powerful, I'm excited to try defending it," said Watari.

"Be careful, besides being fast, this guy's serve comes with a lot of force," warned Kindaichi.

Hinata takes his classic pose and tosses the ball up, making a jump that seems to freeze in the air until the moment he hits the ball with all his strength, making it fly in the blink of an eye to the middle of the opponent's court.

"WOW! I couldn't even track it!" said Watari, who couldn't even attempt to receive it, and this happened two more times. On the fourth try, Seijoh's libero managed to attempt a receive in time, but the ball exploded off his arms with great force and flew away. It was only on the fifth time that he managed to receive it, though still falling backward.

13-4 Karasuno.

The first set ended with Karasuno winning 25-16, with notable performances from the blocks when Hinata, Kageyama, and Tsukishima were at the net.

"YEAH, WE WON!" celebrated Tanaka.

"OF COURSE, I TOLD YOU THEY WEREN'T A MATCH!" said Hinata.

"THESE GUYS ARE NOTHING!" said Tanaka.

"We managed to get a big lead at the start but still gave up some points, which shows how strong their team is," said Daichi.

"Yes, it would be problematic if they had someone serving as well as Hinata..." said Ennoshita.

"Indeed, some of us still need to improve our receives," he observed.

"Don't get ahead of yourselves, that guy probably isn't their main setter," said Kageyama, drawing everyone's attention, and just as he was about to continue speaking, they all heard female screams coming from the crowd and saw a figure heading toward Seijoh's bench.

"Oikawa, you're back, how's your ankle?" asked Seijoh's coach.

"It was just a minor sprain, looks like I can return to practice," said Oikawa while waving to the girls in the crowd.

"Still, I thought it would take longer," continued the coach.

"I left a bit earlier because I heard from some students in the infirmary that we were losing," he said.

"What? You shouldn't have done that, what will we do if our main setter gets injured! How reckless!" warned the coach.

"Sorry, sorry... but look at me, I'm fine," said Oikawa while jumping and stretching.

"Alright, but you'll start the second set on the bench, take time to warm up," said the coach.

"Hey, Kageyama, who's the pretty boy stealing all the girls' attention?" asked Tanaka, furious with all the attention Oikawa was receiving.

"He's Aoba Johsai's main setter, Tōru Oikawa... he was my mentor back at Kitagawa Daiichi, everything I learned about volleyball... was from him, plus, he has a super aggressive playing style and an even worse personality than Tsukishima," said Kageyama.

"Hey!" complained Tsukishima.

"Hello, Tobio, how are you," said Oikawa waving.

"Oh, guys, isn't this the one you said has a serve as good as mine, it's him isn't it?" said Oikawa while pointing at Hinata.

"Get lost, you idiot!" said Tanaka while glaring furiously at Oikawa.

"Hey, Oikawa, go warm up like I told you!" yelled the coach.

The second set started with Kageyama serving and being well received by Hanamaki, who manages a good pass to Yahaba for the set, which this time goes to Kunimi who faces a double block from Hinata and Tsukishima.

"Damn!" thought Kunimi before trying to break through the block but making the ball hit Hinata's hands and then slam into his own team's court.

1-0 Karasuno

"How high! The block from those two is really powerful," observed Oikawa from the bench while warming up.

"Yes, and that's why we need you to deceive that block," said the coach.

"Oh, how nice, coach saying he needs me! Alright, hang in there a bit longer," said Oikawa.

Kageyama serves and is received by the libero who passes to Yahaba for the set, who this time tries to set for Hanamaki in position two, who is also met with a double block from Hinata and Tsukishima, hitting the ball between their block but in Daichi's direction, who manages to receive it and direct the ball to Kageyama who signals with his eyes pretending he would set to Hinata in the middle, but instead sets to Tanaka on the other side who manages to jump and make a cross-court attack that went toward Iwaizumi who tries but fails to receive it.

2-0 Karasuno

"Hey, what did you think of that, girls!" said Tanaka toward the girls in the crowd.

"Oikawa, hurry up and start playing!" the girls shouted to Oikawa, ignoring Tanaka.

"Damn! They didn't even hear me," he said depressively.

"They're his fans, what did you expect, you bald idiot!" said Tsukishima.
