Master Xu was furious, they had been waiting for them to return to the village and yet no one came to bring his wife to the medicinal hall and yet the second they got wind of the fact that Ding Nuan Nuan was hurt they immediately came rushing.

Gu Mo stiffened upon hearing Master Xu's furious accusation. Indeed they had the time to bring Ding Nan from the village to the medicinal hall but Old Master Ding refused, saying that there was no need to tire the ox.

What if it got tired and was slow to return to the village when they were bringing Ding Xuelan back? In fact, Gu Mo knew that the reason Old Master Ding refused to send the ox cart back was that he simply didn't want to bother with Ding Nan and waste any more money.

His father-in-law had told him earlier that Ding Nan's injuries were not that severe and there was no need to waste any money on her.

'She only got thrown a few feet in the air by the bull and it is her fault that she was not paying attention. A few days' rest and some cheap ointment will do. There is no need to bring her here, can't you see the fees?' Old Master Ding huffed while fretting over his younger daughter who was groaning on the bed.

Gu Mo did not refuse either as it had nothing to do. And by the time they return to the village, the matter would be resolved on its own. Who would have thought that he would meet Master Xu so soon?

"Enough of this nonsense," Old Master Ding waved the anger as well as the accusation of his eldest son-in-law. He glanced at Ding Nuan Nuan with an expression of heartache and questioned, "Answer the question first. What did you do to Nuan Nuan?!" He demanded angrily.

"Do you think that I am so idle that I will bother with that troublesome girl?" Master Xu laughed angrily as he turned his back on his father-in-law. He had seen through Old Master Ding this time around.

This mer simply did not care about his wife or them. He only cared about his youngest daughter!

If that was the case then he might as well live and depend on Ding Xuelan!

Once his wife woke up, he would ask her to separate from the family no matter what. If she refused then he would divorce her and leave with his children. He simply refused to continue living with this selfish family.

The others were of the same thoughts as well, even the weak and gentle Master Shu decided that he was going to leave the Ding family one way or another. If they continued to live with Old Master Ding and Ding Xuelan who knows what might happen in the future?

Ding Xuelan was a greedy and lazy woman. Just yesterday he saw her hanging around with Madam Hao who was infamous for selling her mer sons. Who knows what kind of teachings that woman was handing out to Ding Xuelan?

Anyway, Master Shu could not expect anything good from either of them. Ding Xuelan was a half rotten apple already and now that she was hanging around with Madam Hao, who was completely rotten, surely she would only become even worse.

And in case Ding Xuelan was to tell Old Master Ding to sell off his sons, wouldn't his father-in-law do just that as Ding Xuelan said to him?

He couldn't allow that to happen!

No matter what —even if his mer sons were useless in the eyes of his in-laws, he cared and loved them.

Before that happens, he might as well leave the Ding family, thought Master Shu to himself.

"Who are you calling troublesome?" Gu Mo asked angrily. Ding Nuan Nuan was his daughter, if Master Shu was calling her troublesome wasn't he just accusing him of not teaching his daughter well?

Master Xu stopped wiping the forehead of his wife and turned to look at Gu Mo before sneering, "Who else? It is your daughter. Isn't she running around the village these days? Flattering everyone? Who knows whom she offended by getting cosy with them? Why are you asking me what happened to her?"

"You might as well ask whom she offended when she wakes up!"

Gu Mo's face turned red as he listened to the sarcastic words of Master Xu. He turned to look at his father-in-law and spoke in a soft yet whiny voice, "Look at him, Daddy. It is not like my daughter is harming anyone, why is he accusing her as if she had done something wrong? Such a big mer and he is dragging my daughter in the quarrel like that."

He then turned to look at Master Xu with half half-accusatory and half-bullied expression.

Old Master Ding also thought that Master Xu was being too much but before he could say anything, Master Shu spoke up in a cold yet firm voice, "Our wife hasn't woken up. You didn't come to bring her to the medicinal hall, the least you can do is to stay quiet and let her have her rest."

Old Master Ding stiffened as he slowly turned to look at Master Shu before asking, "Are you saying that I do not care for my daughter?"

"Do you?" Master Shu asked as she raised her head and glanced at Old Master Ding lightly leaving the latter speechless.

"You…"

"Anyway, we did not do anything to her," Master Xu said with a cold expression. "You can ask her what happened to her when she wakes up."

On the other side,

Wu Junfen was crouching in front of Yu Mai as she finished teaching him what he needed to do. The entire time Yu Dong who stood beside them was quiet, she blinked her eyes and then in a low voice asked, "Do we really need to do this?"
