Under heavy scrutiny, Shen He and his team, dressed in Chaldean robes, escorted Loki—his hands bound by dampening seals derived from Inhuman bioenergetics—toward the gate. The portal activated without spectacle, its glow restrained. Loki wore a disarmingly calm smile, more fitting of a man receiving honors than a war criminal in chains.
Thor stood firm, pain buried beneath his composure. "If you weren't Asgard's prince, your crimes—manipulating Midgardians, attacking SHIELD, conspiring with the Chitauri—would demand death."
Loki's smile sharpened. "So I'm still a prince. Reassuring."
Thor inhaled, recognizing the deliberate scorn laced in the reply.
"Prepare for extraction," Fury ordered, glancing at the boyish figure among the escort—white-haired, crimson-eyed Accelerator, Chaldea's One-Way Road, the same anomaly who brought in the Winter Soldier, an entity capable of Hulk-level devastation yet barely within containment.
Due to strict security protocols, reporters were restricted to the sidelines, limited to capturing images. But as soon as Loki stepped aboard the stealth VTOL, they converged on Shen He like a tidal wave.
"Mr. Shen, was Loki handed over due to Asgardian pressure?"
"Will he be tried under Midgard's laws or extradited?"
"What's your relationship with Thor?"
"An eyewitness said Thor took a Midgardian woman from Greenwich—what's her connection to him?"
"Sir! One more question—!"
Questions came in barrages, most unrelated to Loki's crimes, indicating they believed the true storm had already passed.
Shen He kept walking, paused a few steps ahead, then lifted his palm.
Silence swept the scene like a command. Cameras held still, expectant.
"Relocating Loki was never our intention," Shen He began, voice poised, every syllable layered with political finesse. "The Security Council initiated this operation. We did not seek further intelligence from Loki. Thor requested a diplomatic solution—one that respects Midgard's sovereignty. This marks the beginning of inter-civilization diplomacy. Chaldea supports it."
No sooner had he finished than a renewed barrage surged.
"Does Thor's diplomacy represent all of Asgard?"
"What role will Chaldea play in interplanetary negotiations?"
"Is it true Thor has feelings for a human?"
"Could Loki still be manipulating global events?"
Shen He said nothing more. He turned and walked away. Hill and Coulson stepped in to shield him from the press.
Now they waited—either for the Asgardian envoy, or the alien fleet. Interpretations differed, but preparations remained the same.
The Chaldean network remained on maximum alert.
Meanwhile, aboard the VTOL, silence held dominion. Thor, unmoving, stared at his brother, unable to shake the unresolved mystery of the Tesseract's location—the so-called Cosmic Cube.
Loki had offered fragments—hints of the Chitauri, whispers of armies, allusions to a greater force named Thanos. Fury logged each word, stylus tapping against his StarkTech datapad as he tried coaxing further confessions.
When they landed at Sandbox Base—an untraceable joint facility between SHIELD and Chaldea—Thor struck again.
"Think of Mother. She wept for months when she believed you dead. Do you want Father to execute you? Surrender the Tesseract. It may save you."
Loki only smirked. "How did you find Jane?"
"Shen He helped," Thor snapped. "I have allies. You? You have no one. You think you can oppose us?"
"If they're so capable," Loki purred, "why haven't they found the Cube?"
"You think they can't?" Thor growled. "Qi Mu Nanzi—Shen He's wife—can isolate quantum imprints with a thought. You used Jane like a pawn. If not for that, they'd have retrieved the Tesseract days ago. Cooperate, and you might still live."
A mocking chuckle left Loki's lips. "Still so naive, brother. I expected growth, not regression."
Thor snapped. His hand shot forward, seizing Loki's throat. Fury moved to intervene.
"Wait!" he barked. "Let him finish!"
Loki, gasping beneath Thor's iron grip, still found breath to mock. "Isn't it obvious? My followers—the ones I touched—opened the gate days ago. And while they acted, your allies scrambled after your precious Jane. It's almost poetic… as if they served me."
"Lies!" Thor's voice thundered.
Fury's gaze drifted toward the sealed case. Inside gleamed the scepter—now confirmed to house the Mind Stone.
"He's not lying," Fury muttered. "Shen He's planning moves beyond our comprehension. If war comes… and we survive… Chaldea intends to rewrite what follows."
Their true strategy had always been clear: anchor themselves as the cornerstone of Earth's future.
Thor turned to Accelerator, eyes burning with unspoken questions.
Accelerator's face darkened. "I don't know what my master's planning, but don't look at me like that."
"I won't let Earth fall," Thor growled, clenching Mjolnir. "I'm getting answers from Shen He—now."
"Secure the prisoner first!" Fury barked to the pilot. "ETA?!"
"Thirty minutes, sir," came the terse reply. "But if you keep fighting in here—this bird's going down!"
Fury blinked. That tone—too blunt, too personal. Pilots didn't speak to command like that.
Then his eyes shifted again—to the Mind Stone.
Boom!
The VTOL jolted violently.
"Enemy contact! One fighter down!" The comms erupted with panic.
Four escort jets flew visibly, ten more shadowed in stealth. Yet they were under siege.
"Move!" Thor roared, dragging Loki toward the hatch.
"Wait—!" Fury shouted, but too late.
With Mjolnir smashing the hatch open, Thor launched into the skies, Loki in tow.
"Dammit—!"
Accelerator, recalling Shen He's exact command—"Escort Loki."—sighed, then jumped out after them.
Thor flew fast, but still had to redirect momentum. Accelerator didn't. Vector control bent inertia, propelling him in a perfect arc, his fist connecting with Thor's forearm.
By design or accident, Loki was wrenched free.
"What are you doing?!" Thor shouted mid-air.
But it was already over. A cloaked jet intercepted Loki, doors opening to swallow him in a fluid motion before vanishing.
Mjolnir spun through the air in pursuit.
Accelerator, grounded by physics but immune to harm, allowed himself to drop, redirecting force on descent and landing safely as the sky erupted in streaks of Chaldean fighters clashing with Asgardian warships.
The mission, for now, was complete.
